Conflict in the Middle East

How is forced starvation allowed?

Tinycatnoise · 23/07/2025 22:28

The top story in the BBC right now is the starvation of Gazans by Israel. The images are horrifying and not dissimilar to seeing those images of concentration camps in Nazi Germany. I cried seeing those and am crying now. I am sure someone will claim antisemitism because of this statement, but anyone looking at these images of starving children would agree.

How is this still going on? I feel like we are watching a genocide take place that the world has turning a blind eye to. The daily shooting by Israel of people trying to get aid too is just barbaric. If nothing is being done to stop this, what is the next horror that will unfold in the world that people will just accept?

Completely agree, OP. The Israeli government is just as evil as the nazis. Unfortunately I think this will end with the occupation of Gaza and more suffering for the surviving Palestinians.

TheGrimSmile · 23/07/2025 22:42

It's just evil and I don't know how anyone can defend it. I have lost hope in humanity. It's a holocaust. The irony.

The abused becomes the abuser.

This is horrific but sadly natural and seen time and time again throughout history, and is entirely what we are all watching right now, imho.

Those that are carrying out these actions have no humanity within themselves.

Unreal.

Yes it’s awful what we’re seeing now in Gaza

BelleHathor · 24/07/2025 00:43

The tide is finally turning, the pictures published today are horrific.

This will be a stain on humanity forever.

It's been disgusting for decades and it is still disgusting now. I can't believe our country supported this. Starmer needs to go!

needNC · 24/07/2025 01:09

I actually switched off the news tonight because I was so upset….fucking shocking and beyond my comprehension TBH.

Readytoplay · 24/07/2025 01:11

I don’t think people can justified this anymore, without simply looking like utter scum (not that starving little kids is EVER Justified).
I really hope the rest of the world can help to put a stop to this absolutely barbarous, charge both Hamas and Netanyahu’s government with crimes against humanity for the monstrosities both have caused, and help to bring piece to all in the Middle East.
but I know that, at present, that’s a pipe dream.

Little children are suffering, because they were born into a situation they have no control over.
There are ways of defeating hamas that don't involve starving the civilian population. We have seen multiple times that Israel is capable of extremely precised and effective operations. This is revenge aimed at the general population, not a military tactic.

That’s the stupidest thing I’ve read.
11 million lost their lives during the holocaust,
Gaza is fucked because of Hamas.
Seems you lost hope in humanity before you’d blame Gaza’s terrorist government

It's absolutely horrific and unbelievable. I was in my local Co-op yesterday, and caught a glance of the papers. Some images on the front pages were impossible to look at without crying. I had to look away, and then felt guilty for doing so. I just feel so ashamed that our government is so complicit 😔
I think almost everyone thinks this now. Even those on the political right. One of the newspapers with harrowing images on their front page, condemning the genocide, was the Daily Express! A paper I'd never touch, as a lefty. The whole world is horrified.

Comedycook · 24/07/2025 06:16

Lots of holocaust inversion I see on this thread. You can express your horror without doing that.

Figcherry · 24/07/2025 06:43

Apparently there are 950 trucks worth of aid sat waiting to be distributed at the crossing which Israel facilitated with no problem.

COGAT say the UN have made demands that they can’t agree to eg. Hamas police escort for the convoys and communication devices entering Gaza.

The UN say that Israel’s restrictions and permit rejections mean aid is effectively barred from transfer to collection and distribution sites as the convoys could come under fire.

It’s a lack of trust that is causing the current starvation crisis.
Israel need to trust the UN to distribute the aid, the UN need to trust Israel not to fire at the trucks.

This. Its absolutely disgraceful. The situation in Gaza is horrific but it bears no resemblance to the Holocaust whatsoever. The Jews in Germany were ordinary citizens. The Nazis targetted them as part of a holistic, strategic genocide with the clear aim of destroying them and the state constructed and industrial complex to achieve it, systematically.
The situation in the ME is totally different one with 2 warring parties (at times many more). Hamas was the aggressor in this wave of the conflict and has been many times before too. Gazan civilians are caught up in it but several parties are complicit in the shortage of food including Hamas.
There are many example in the last 100 years of conflicts and food shortages. Who reaches straight for an antisemitic analagy?

"Hamas was the aggressor in this wave of the conflict"

That is absolutel bullshit @SharonEllis and you know it.

Hamas attacked Israel for two days, october 7th and October 8th in 2023.

In retaliation, Israel have been attacking and bombing Gaza for one year and a half..

If one side attacks for two days, and the otjrr side attacks for a year and a half, which side is more of the aggressor?

Israel is.
