The majority of money they received lately has been used to annihilate their neighbours unfortunately

Nope. Iron Dome defence system.

Nope. Iron Dome defence system.

Iron Dome defense system costs around 50 million US per year.

Israel gets a 3.7 billion US dollar injection every year.

Yes I agree, what's your point? You're the one continuously pointing out the Jewish people were there first, I'm pointing out it's who is there now that's important

People are taking offence for good reason because some are very clearly stating the Jews are settlers, i.e. colonisers. Which they are not.

Jews are indigenous to the region. This is not to say that others can’t be indigenous to one land.

What do you think this conflict has been all about?

It's about LAND! The legitimacy of the State of Israel and the rights of either Jews or Palestinians to live there.

Em...yes I'm aware it's about land thanks, it wasn't me who said Jews were colonisers, in fact i don't think anyone did did they? One or two seemed very defensive stating the Jews were there first that's about it

Is it really about land? Is it not a religious war? Islam against Judaism, with Christianity caught in the crossfire?

You are aware that there are Muslim and Arab and Christian and Druze Israelis? And that there are no Jews in Gaza? So, who is keeping ownership for one class/sect/religious heritage?

andIsaid · 04/02/2025 19:57

@Oodiks

We could dress it up, bring it into a more palatable realm of morals, philosophy and heritage.

But we all know it is about land.

You are aware that there are Muslim and Arab and Christian and Druze Israelis?

Indeed I am. I know many and am related to a few. They have stories to tell.

And that there are no Jews in Gaza?
There will, and soon too if Jared K has any say in the matter. And he has a lot of say - he gave Jerusalem to Israel.

So, who is keeping ownership for one class/sect/religious heritage?
Palestinians did not want the wall that Israel built around them to lock them in.

When the Gazans can run their own border, issue visas, keep their own money and run their own country without interference then I will concede to your point.

OpheliaWasntMad · 04/02/2025 20:29

@andIsaid
Colonisation refers to a “process of establishing occupation of or control over foreign territories or peoples”.
The Israelis can’t be colonisers according to the accepted definition as they are not foreign to the land.
Your definition is made up - you can’t just redefine a word to suit your purpose.

The wall exists to prevent terrorist attacks. Stop the terrorism and start talking.

In 1896 Herzl (the founder of Zionism) called for a Jewish homeland in Palestine ( he recognized Palestine), and in so doing one could absolutely argue that it was a process of establishing occupation of or control over foreign territories or peoples”.

One could make that claim because he and his followers came from Eastern Europe, Germany and Russia well before WW11. At the time they used terrorism to fight the British.

After the 2nd WW, the Jews of Europe went to Israel, and are very much foreign to the area, but not foreign to the religious claim.

My definition is not made up.

Herzl's famously poses the question about what to do with the native population. His diary talks about the possibility to 'spirit them away', a controversial suggestion (or acknowledgement) that in order to establish a Jewish state in Palestine, the existing Arab population could be "spirited away" or discreetly removed from the land, potentially through economic incentives or relocation to other areas, to make room for Jewish settlement.

By the way it was very much a Colonial project, in the sense that many countries including Argentina and Uganda (which rather ironically the existing British settlers complained vehemently about).

This is back on the table now in a different form. President Trump is trying to get both Joran and Egypt to take a million Palestinians a piece.

Kushner has his eye on developing Gaza sea front.

Sheldon Adelson's donations to trump last time round got the US embassy moved to Jerusalem. This time round his wife donated 100 million dollars. She will want a return on that money.

It was called Palestine under Ottoman occupation, what's your point?

It was known.

Look @SharonEllis we are clearly on opposite sides of this argument.

I was trying to bring a little humour to the discussion with my quip "people like you".

However, I do accept that you have asked me before not to make assumptions about you - so I apologize again and promise I won't do any of that again.

Definitely a team worth being on. I didn't realise how niche it was until spending time on CITME though.
