At a time when justice, empathy and integrity seem to be in short supply, a little light in the darkness.

Link to the BBC Live page covering statements announcing that the countries will recognise a Palestinian state on 28th May.

Ireland and Norway to recognise Palestinian state, with Spain to follow - BBC News

Israel's foreign ministry has warned the move will "fuel extremism and instability".

And if you reference twitter threads to substantiate your viewpoint then you are either desperate or a delusional tin foil hat wearing conspiracy theorist.

I'm not sure why you quoted me there - I was making the point that reading the Telegraph's opinion on an issue in Ireland doesn't make you more informed than Irish people on that issue.

I'd say both.

I do wonder if it is Irelands historic relationship with the US that has Israel so ruffled about Irelands support for a Palestinian state? Their reaction to Ireland vs Spain and Norway is quite extraordinary. Are they worried that Biden may start to listen to Ireland(not going to happen in my opinion) but Ireland does have a close relationship with the US, stronger than Spain or Norway, we have access to the Whitehouse every single year and soft power from the Irish American vote, is that what has them so rattled and what makes the anti Irish sentiment from the Israeli government so strong?

I think that's exactly it.

I think anybody (which seems to be a lot of Pro-Palestinian posters) who constantly denigrate and mock those who link to certain posters need to understand that it works both ways.

So linking to this https://www.newstalk.com/news/hamas-thanks-ireland-israel-releases-irish-music-video-mixed-with-hamas-attack-1727877 doesn't make you any more informed that Israeli people on that issue.

'Hamas Thanks Ireland' - Israel releases Irish music video mixed with Hamas attack

Israel has posted a video of the October 7th attacks mixed with footage of Irish dancing entitled 'Hamas: Thanks Ireland'.

The Norwegian, Spanish and Irish ambassadors in Israel have been summoned and shown a video of the Oct 7th attacks. Not sure the reason for this is or what they are trying to achieve. I doubt any of these ambassadors based in Tel Aviv are unaware of how horrific the Oct 7th attack was.

Sorry you're making absolutely no sense now.

Linking to an Irish news source (I didn't link to that, by the way) piece on the Israeli government's video that says that Ireland is Hamas doesn't make a person more informed on what exactly? I have no idea what you're on about.

"I'm not sure why you quoted me there - I was making the point that reading the Telegraph's opinion on an issue in Ireland doesn't make you more informed than Irish people on that issue."

I was referencing your post of 10.46 with a twitter link.

As right wing as the Torygraph is, I would say it's a damn sight more credible than Twitter as a source.

I linked to a tweet posted by the Israeli Minister for Foreign Affairs? How is that unreliable?

EasterIssland · 23/05/2024 14:06

I’m not sure Norway but with Spain they’ve been having problems since 7-10 as part of the government spoke against Israel. They’ve been trying to shame and threaten Spain

Seems nobody can speak against Israel without having some sort of threat used against them, not showing themselves in a good light at all..

This will achieve absolutely zilch

What a silly post.

Twitter is not a news outlet, it's a communication platform.

The poster is sharing a tweet made directly by an Israeli government minister. Straight from the horse's mouth, so how you can claim its unreliable I really don't know.

I suggest you take a short course in basic comprehension skills. And perhaps improve your vocabulary as you seem to be struggling. I do notice you make this comment to a lot of posters you don't agree with.

Makes perfect sense and I received 7 likes.

Basically - back off criticising people for reading papers and making personal comments. If you decide to do this, you need to be able to take posters saying the same thing to you.

You know zero about Israel and its politics and sentiments if you cannot understand why that video was made.

If you dish it out, you are going have to take it to be honest.

Can you explain why the video was made then? Why anyone would think it is appropriate to play Irish music, Irish dance and feature the Irish flag over a video of the Hamas terrorist attack?

I would like to know the answer to this too?

@keenforhelp well maybe you can explain to the rest of us why that minister tweeted that inflammatory video? because it certainly doesn't show him or the government he represents in a favourable light.

That could be it. Sometimes Irish Americans and the Irish in Ireland think very differently about things. But apparently the Irish Americans tend to be pro Palestinian. I don’t think we have that much influence though 😂

i’m flattered they think we are so important.

Bat shit response.

You must be struggling if you're resorting to such petty insults.

I didn't criticise you for reading the Telegraph, I said it doesn't make you more knowledgable on immigration issue in Ireland, which you seemed to think it did. I understand that you are trying to brazen out your last few posts that made absolutely no sense, but try to remain civilised if you can at all.

My source was the Israeli Minister for Foreign Affairs, and all the tweets of his I posted (2) were directly related to this thread. Unlike your links.

Please explain the Israeli's video to me. I can't understand why a state would make such an embarrassingly petty, childish video about another country because they did something they didn't agree with. Ffs, Ireland's government has made it clear that they don't agree with Israel's war crimes but they manage to be grown ups and not behave like deranged cry-babies.

Edited to add: congratulations on your 7 likes! 💐

I think this quote from the Norwegian prime minister covers explains why.

“In the midst of a war, with tens of thousands killed and injured, we must keep alive the only alternative that offers a political solution for Israelis and Palestinians alike: Two states, living side by side, in peace and security,” Norway's Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store said.
“There will be no peace in the Middle East without a two-state solution. There can be no two-state solution without a Palestinian state. In other words, a Palestinian state is a prerequisite for achieving peace in the Middle East,” Store added.

It doesn't actively change anything but it does put pressure on other countries like the UK and the US to follow suit and the more countries that do this the more pressure there is on Israel to allow a 2 state solution, something Netanyahu has said he will never agree to.

Isn’t the down side that Israel may go “ yup ok, thats your 2 state solution Gaza and West bank” we are going to build a dmz around it, no electricity, no water etc, no medical aid no food aid from us or through our territory.

Protected borders, dmz on the Israeli side... Provided they take the settlers away and maritime/air space is confirmed and respected, that isn't the worst starting point in the world for discussions.

I think the announcement and the statement are essentially a diplomatic effort to suggest a way forward out of the morass, and a reminder to both sides that the zero sum game currently being pursued by Hamas and Israeli hawks isn't going to achieve anything but disaster for both sides.

It's basically diplomatic food for thought offered by three states clearly working in tandem, and with a resolution in mind.

I thought that was the plan post Hamas anyway?

The post Hamas being the major hurdle
