Conflict in the Middle East

Why did Israeli settlers move into the Palestinian Territories?

Firstly, please excuse my naivety and note that I don't support either side in the current conflict. I am appalled but the atrocities inflicted by both sides.

The media attention has caused me to read up on the complicated history.

One thing I can't understand. After 1967 Israeli settlers moved into what had been proposed as Palestinian Territories after 1947. Why? At an individual level, were people incentivised?

You actually believe that all the people around the world who support free Palestine want to annihilate all Jews? Not that they abhor human rights injustice and would as equally be appalled by the Holocaust? You also make a massive and dangerous generalisation by equating all Palestinians with Hamas.

*Sigh.
I was NOT saying it was right, I was saying this is what I perceive will happen due to human fucking nature.
Read it again with your bias off.

*Sigh.
I didn’t ask if you thought what you were saying was right, I asked you what you meant by it and now I know.

@lavender2023 this was posted today to some of the palestinian residents of occupied west bank

'Run to Jordan before we kill our enemies and expel you from our holy land given to us by God

Why did Israeli settlers move into the Palestinian Territories?

@lavender2023 BTW the above post wasn't an attack just continuing from our conversation about the crazed settlers in the west bank
The more concerning issue is that they always seem to have the backing of the IDF

The IDF would protect them as they are Israeli citizens. Sadly the settlements attract the craziest people.

There are thankfully some non crazy Israeli people who are very wise. Yet people ignore them and prefer never ending war. Yuval Noah Harari (author of sapiens) needs no introduction but I totally agree with what he is saying- when choosing between justice and peace, choose peace..every peace treaty in the world has had some level of compromise. Does that right the historic wrongs and mistreatment of Palestinians, no. But peace is more important.

There have been a lot of social media posts of settlers calling for a Nakba.
@Parkingt111 I was listening to Benzi Sanders, who is ex IDF and now is part of a group of ex IDF soldiers who speak out about abuse of Palestinians. Anyway, he was saying that settlers often came onto their IDF radio signals (which is apparently allowed in the case of an emergency) and 'commanded' them to attack Palestinians. He didn't elaborate but it made me wonder what sort of power ordinary people on the (illegal) ground have.

That is quite scary. Thanks will look up Benzi Sanders

Moving to Israel is not something I've ever remotely considered doing,

Isn't it great to have the option!

Unlike the Palestinians and their descendants who still have the deeds to the lands they were evicted from in order to create a land for a people without a land...

Yes, I'm lucky to have the option - unlike my family who were either murdered or expelled from their land. You took my quote completely out of context, so what on earth is your point? OR did you just come on this thread to find a Jew to bait?

PaminaMozart · 26/10/2023 21:05

You have a home, a passport, security....... no one is going to steel your little patch of England - or wherever you are - and you really, really?, cannot see why the Palestinians, who lost everything!!, might want to seek some kind of justice?

In the last Ottoman census (around 1878) the population of Palestine consisted of approx 3% Jews, 2% Jewish foreign born (who were migrants) 5% Christian and the remaining Muslim. In 1948, within weeks of the state of Israel being official, more than 70% of Palestine had been confiscated. Land, homes, schools, farms given over to Jewish people.
What I find most strange is that the posters who claim that the Palestinians are "unreasonable for feeling tied to the land" then go on to say that the Jews were there 4000 years ago so have more right to it. Totally disregarding that this is the home and land that Palestinians have lived (and owned!) for centuries. It totally defies common sense and logic.

Horrific!
Why isn't Israel declared a terrorist organisation/state for terrorising palestinians civilians since 1970

Why are you holding me accountable for the circumstances of Palestinians? You literally jumped onto my post and picked out a quote where I said "I've never considered moving to Israel" and where I have also described my fears about antisemitism in the UK.

Why aren’t they being declared terrorists right now is the question.
Politically motivated mass murder of children.

There are many injustices in the world and the problem with history is that we will never be able to correct all of them. Israel is a sovereign country now with nuclear weapons. Armed militias will not overthrow them. It is an established country like Singapore or Moldova

All that will ensure is more bloodshed. Justice is important but if we needed to choose between justice and peace, we should choose peace.. What we need is to negotiate a peace between the Israelis and Palestinians to ensure that the Palestinians have a state of their own and to lead dignified lives.
