Carrots, just found this utter bollocks highly informative report on babycentre...

You're more likely to conceive a girl if...

? You have sex earlier on in your cycle, a few days before your day of ovulation. This is because female sperm are thought to be stronger and therefore last longer than male sperm, who will die off before reaching the egg

? your partner reaches orgasm before you

? you have sex frequently to lower your partner's sperm count, and so increase the chances of the female sperm reaching the egg first

? you keep penetration shallow

? you stop having unprotected sex four to five days before ovulation, to minimise the chances of the male sperm reaching the egg first

? your partner keeps his genitals warm by wearing close-fitting underwear and tight trousers (although this isn't likely to do his general fertility any good!)

? you suggested the love-making

? you make love in the afternoon

? you make love on even days of the month

? you put a wooden spoon under your bed and a pink ribbon under your pillow

? you drink plenty of milk and eat dairy products such as cheese and yoghurt, unsalted foods, rice, pasta, certain vegetables, mineral water, limited amounts of meat and potatoes, but avoid salt and any salty foods, wine and beer, fresh fruit, spinach, tomatoes and mushrooms, chocolate, coffee and tea.

I think you should therefore immediately put a wooden spoon under your bed and a pink ribbon under your pillow - that is obviously the best way forward.

skihorse · 21/10/2009 15:01

Oh fucksticks - I knew there was some secret nobody'd let me in on.

iggypiggy · 21/10/2009 15:06

maybe we should all try dipping blue and pink ribbons in grapefruit juice and sticking them in our pants? Worth a try?

PollyPoo · 21/10/2009 15:08

I'm so desperate I'd try anything I might even have to visit the crystal healing shop and get some rock to stick in me bra.

Scorpette · 21/10/2009 15:12

Ski, that reminds me - the sex swing could do with a good bleaching too And my plan if I don't have a girl is to gayify a son. The transgender thing is nature, not nurture (my MA topic, boast boast), but I suppose it could work if you were really disturbingly freaky about the whole thing

Carrots, for a girl you're meant to go on a mainly veggie diet, no red meat, caffeine or alcohol and avoid salt. That's me anyway, apart from the salt, as I have adrenal problems and need lots of salt (odd, I know). As for doing it a few days before Ov, I'm a bit as we crones need all the help our 100-yr old Chinese pickled eggs can get. I'm trying this: I get a positive POK for 2 days THEN a temp rise, which indicates that the 2nd day of positive POKs or even the day after is the actual Ov day, so I do it on the first day (night) of positive POKs. Which is tonight (I may not have mentioned my plans for later, ahem). Of course, this is unique to me, but temping and so on might help in this way.

I read an interesting article earlier this year showing that loads of unconnected studies about gender have thrown up the weird finding that left-wing people tend to have more female babies and right-wing ones more male babies. Apparently, they reckon this also accounts for why it's more common to have a girl and then a boy or boys, as PFB syndrome can turn you a bit Daily Mail against the world and its ills. Dunno if this is horseshit, but I'm making TYF sing 'The Red Flag' with me as foreplay every time

iggypiggy · 21/10/2009 15:14

I don't care anyway - I just want one that doesn't fail

Scorpette · 21/10/2009 15:20

Pigsy, that's what my msg that wouldn't send was about. I would like it, ta - will try to write to you again (good front for our secret affair, btw... oops!).

A... wooden... spoon and.. a .. pink... ribbon. Riiiiight. Is the spoon under the bed so she'll turn out to be a domesticated drudge who knows that her place is below the man?

Well, citylink have just delivered a parcel addressed to TYF. As I was signing, one man said to the other, 'Is that the graphics tablet, then?'. Seeing as I have asked TYF for a graphics tablet for my burfday or Xmas, I am both and I told them as much, too (although I then got in and realised I had some food on my face, which always adds to one's air of authoritative indignation)

I asked ages ago, so he must've actually listened to something I said. That's the greatest gift of all!

Scorpette · 21/10/2009 15:23

BTW, dunno if this info is a help or hindrance, but... www.marieclaire.co.uk/news/health/427476/white-wine-decreases-ivf-success-rates.html

I always use glossy mags as my no.1 go-to source of expert medical advice. Still, better than Dr Day 14 ovulation, anyday

iggypiggy · 21/10/2009 15:26

scorps good job we only drink gin here...

will look forward to hot message from you later...

Ponymum · 21/10/2009 15:37

iggy Hands off scorpilicious! She's my bitch, y'hear!

PollyPoo · 21/10/2009 15:39

Ok I need some advice - just went to the loo and amongst the usual CM on tissue were some pink streaks. Wiped again to be sure not from wee hole - and more streaks, def from fanjo.

I'm on day 23 out of 28. Could this be

skihorse · 21/10/2009 15:40

polly I can confirm it's either implantation, cervical erosion, something else, early droid or your body is fucking with you. I hope this helps.

givecarrotsachance · 21/10/2009 15:41

iggy I realise my post my have seemed insensitive and I was trying to write it saying, "I'm not trying to be insensitive, just honest". I'm sorry.

polly etc I think the best option there is the wooden spoon. At least it may mean my babe is a good cook and can look after me in my dotage.

I figured that everyone would think I was a nutter . It's the sex a bit early thing which I think is a real huge risk.

FWIW I DID SWI with ex (not while he was an ex ) when DS was conceived on the day I ovd and not before, and he was, obv, a boy, so by that clear and scientific proof, I guess we will all be having boys by SWI up to and including OV day.

scorp I must admit, I never got my head around OPKs. I am temping and understand that well - works for me - but I don't quite understand how you can get a positive on an OPK before OV. But, you need to be SWI before the temp rise BUT don't OPKs only show the time of OV which is really a day or so too late (or missing an opportunity to stack up the sperm?)

iggypiggy · 21/10/2009 15:43

pony you can have scorps - am so over her

polly fuck knows - but hopefully it is a good thing

skihorse · 21/10/2009 15:45

carrots That's my understanding of OPK kits too. The positive says "whoops, missed yer chance luv" - some of them apparently do a smiley face as they do this...

iggypiggy · 21/10/2009 15:45

carrots oh I wasn't reacting to your post in particular! don't be silly

I tried OPKs - they made me cry

givecarrotsachance · 21/10/2009 15:46

polly ditto. BUT I got an implantation bleed with DS which I thought was droid starting. I was in a spa having a day-at-a-spa day thanks for a luuurvely gift from someone and I bled my bloody pants

Sounds hopeful.

But ski could also be right - other things clearly an option. Do you have cervical erosion?

iggy OUCH!!

skihorse · 21/10/2009 15:50

iggy piss-sticks of any variety make me cry - they always say "fail" even though dildocam said "pass". And yet, month after month I spunk perfectly good shiny euros on them.

PollyPoo · 21/10/2009 15:52

I thought opk's indicated that you were going to Ov in the next 24-48 hours... unless I've been doing it wrong all this time?!

Scorpette wtf is cervical erosion?! I do not feel like I'm getting droid early (usually late if anything) but of course my body is evil and has tricked me before. (clutches hand to chest in panic whilst hyperventilating.)

CurlyCasper · 21/10/2009 16:00

my interpretation is that a positive OPK means drag your man into the bedroom TONIGHT! Think it's only the temp surge that means "too late".

iggypiggy · 21/10/2009 16:04

ski is true... I am same... The month i tried out opks coincided with my latest madness (see absence from thread circa Aug 09) and we failed to SWI when I got line = mega over-reaction/ misery.

Have not tried the feckers since...

givecarrotsachance · 21/10/2009 16:06

polly not as bad as it sounds... just a bit of the cervix/uterus getting mixed up. Can happen esp to wimmin who have been on the pill for a lot of years. According to my specialist lovely doctor it won't affect preg hopes BUT if you don't know what it is, chances are it's not that as otherwise you would already have had symptoms (odd spotting) and been to see someone about it. Not to mention it's usually something they tell you when you have a smear.

givecarrotsachance · 21/10/2009 16:07

I have it, lots of peeps do.

iggypiggy · 21/10/2009 16:12

poo I had cervical erosion once... and you would know if it was that cos you bleed when fucking - which was v. embarassing at the time - must have been about 8 years ago and I was on pill at the time.

PollyPoo · 21/10/2009 16:13

Phew, thanks Carrots. Not another thing to add to my list of paranoid worries.

We followed this advice this month... We'll soon see if its worked.
