Well we have just made the scary decision to ttc at 40! I have an appointment for my contraceptive removing next month!!
We have older dc and it just feels like the last chance, before age well and truly takes over! Is anyone else here similar age? Have you managed to get that bfp? I’m nervous that we’ve left it a little too late!

@Av0bo55 same boat here ttc at 40 but my OH is abit older. Do you mind me asking if your OH is the same age as you or older/younger?

Any other ladies who have conceived at 40 do you think that makes a difference?

TIA x

I had a surprise pregnancy that I was initially shocked about but then delighted. Sadly it wasn’t to be and I lost the baby at 10 weeks last week. I have started to think about trying but I’m terrified, I’m feeling very torn. I’m nearly 38 and would love to hear positive experiences of women a similar age having success.

I'm 41 and DH is having a vasectomy reversal this Friday so we can TTC. 40 is the new 20...so I tell myself.

Seriously, lots of women 40+ having babies now. My mum had my brother at 43.

Good luck

I was almost 42 when I had last DC. Could you use a fertility monitor? Think Clearblue do them and they are very good. I didn’t like leaving things to chance when getting older

I'm 41 and 35 weeks pregnant with our second, I was 39 with DS1. Touch wood no problems so far, but it took 9 months to get a bfp (4 months the first time).

Hi. I turned 41 a couple of weeks ago. We’ve got a DS who’s 3 and we weren’t going to have another. Changed our mind December so currently TTW of cycle 2. Now we’ve decided to try it’s like I’m so desperate for another. We’re only trying for 12 months!

Hello! I'm 40 with a 2 year old DD and we are also TTC. Been trying since around April last year but, due to DD not being a great sleeper, it's all been a bit half hearted. Feel we really need to now up our game and make a real effort. I've mentally given myself until the end of the year....

I’m 41 and have been TTC for a year, albeit very haphazardly, with no science involved. I’ve got older children and conceived more or less immediately with them.
I think I am going to do some research and make a concerted effort until November when I turn 42, if it’s not happened by then I’ll stop.
Good luck to everyone.

I am 40 and TTC baby #4! It took a while to convince DH, I’ve longed for another for a couple of years. So far I’m up to cycle 9. I hadn’t really thought of a timescale of how long to try for just really hoping it happens.

I was 41 when we decided to go for our 3rd, conceived almost immediately. I wasn’t on contraceptives though so we could start trying as soon as we made the decision.

Welcome to the TTC train! 40 over here 👋 going through IVF to become a single mum by choice.

Start taking those prenatal vitamins now, cut down on caffeine, alcohol and improve your diet. good luck! It may happen before you know it x

@frenchfancy81 @AliceMcK
yes BFP means big fat positive ie a positive pregnancy test. When I first joined mumsnet I was very confused.. but BFP is used here 99.9% of the time when referring to a positive pregnancy test

Congratulations @DancinOnTheCeiling. I love seeing other BFPs as it keeps my hope alive! It took us about 10 months TTC #1 and we are close to that now...

Oh wow 🤩 so many others! I’m in good company!! My dh is a few years older he’s 42 but 43 this year!
I really hope it all works out for us and all Ttc and that we get our bfp asap!
I conceived really fast with my older dc and I seem to have regular cycles and ov pains midway through so hoping that’s a good sign and I know dh is fertile as he’s managed in the past with our other kids!
I’m pleased to hear of some of your success already in the pp and it gives us all hope that yes it can happen!

Have any of you tracked ovulation? I have in the past but found them a bit of a pain remembering each day to do one. Also I've found my periods seem to vary each month, I know it might seem a silly question but with this happening how many times throughout the cycle to have sex, with not tracking ovulation to cover bases?
