3 miscarriages in a row. Waiting on miscarriage clinic appointment

Hi,
(Also posted this in miscarriage talk, but had no replies)

So a quick summary. In 2015 I was pregnant with Identical twin girls, I lost them at 24 weeks with TTTS (twin to twin transfusion syndrome) I gave birth to them both.

Fast forward to 2020, I fall pregnant in March and I miscarry at 9 weeks after a private scan showed no baby on the screen. An empty sac. We tried again in the June and it took us until October to fall pregnant again. I found out on October 24th and on the 31st I started bleeding and was told it was a chemical pregnancy because the hospital test came back negative, but I had positives the week before on blue dye tests and digital ones. I was 5 weeks pregnant. I then fell pregnant again straight after I presume, no period whole of the November, faint positives on tests, started bleeding heavily on December 13th and was told it was a miscarriage again.

And to now, I’ve had a pelvis ultrasound, came back with the lining of my womb fine, the womb fine, my ovaries just showed a small amount of cysts so was given blood tests to check for polycystic ovaries, got those results back and all came back clear and no further action needed. Had tests for Thrombophilia, also came back clear. And I’ve had a period since the December loss.

Due to Covid I’m having to wait a bit longer for my miscarriage clinic referral appointment to come through. My doctor has given me the all clear to keep trying in the meantime. But I’m so fed up and drained with it. I just need advice if anyone has been referred to the miscarriage clinic and what was the outcome, if any. Because I’m very doubtful I’ll get answers.

Thanks @MollySxx, fingers crossed you get an appointment soon. I had karotype tests (luckily all fine), and lupus anticoagulant tests, which I do have. I was given tinzaparin injections to take once pregnancy was established and also cyclogest for the first 16 weeks. I was also recommended to take 150mg aspirin. I don’t think there is any harm in trying, but if you do and have an underlying condition, there is always a chance it will happen again. I found out about the lupus on the second miscarriage, so was taking the tinzaparin in the third, but not the cyclogest. They tested the last miscarriage and it was a trisomy issue, so nothing would have helped. It was from there I had a karotype test. After the third miscarriage I also had an MRI for a suspected uterine septum. This was confirmed and removed before my current pregnancy, so that could also have been a factor. I have been very impressed with the clinic, I guess it depends on the hospital. Good luck with your journey, I felt so despondent after the miscarriages and had pretty much given up. We had a week off work and relaxed, too many drinks(!), which resulted in this pregnancy! I’ll never feel fully relaxed in the pregnancy, but I am feeling a lot better now I have got this far.

Grognonne · 26/01/2021 08:39

Oh, forgot to say, the septum wasn’t picked up for a while despite numerous scans (over two years!), it was only during the early scan of my last miscarriage she saw something and was sent for an MRI. I was also prescribed a course of metronidazole for when I was around 8-10 weeks (can’t remember exactly) as a precaution against any infection.

@MollySxx I just wanted to pop on and say hi and send you some virtual hugs. Ive been through 8 losses so I fully understand how hard it is.
I have been through the miscarriage clinic and the first thing they do I scans and bloods which I think you’ve already had. They then put me with a specialist obs & gyne consultant but before they could do much, I was pregnant again. It was twins. Lost 1, carried the other almost to term and she’s now almost 9.
Her plan was cycle bloods for a few months and if I fell pregnant again she was going to measure my cervix length incase I needed a stitch, and make sure everything was as it should be during the start of pregnancy. They’d also test a fetus i passed if they had the chance to see if there was a genetic abnormality causing it.
I’ve since had 2 further losses in the past year but we are trying again with fingers crossed!
I hope that gives you a bit of an idea and some hope that you will carry. It is a long, painful journey but you have support on here as well as from your partner. Feel free to pm me if you ever need to chat.
X

MollySxx · 26/01/2021 09:17

@Grognonne I have started aspirin today. I picked up some 75mg ones yesterday and I’m currently in the slap bang middle of ovulation. So fingers crossed the aspirin will make a difference this time. It’s so good the help they gave you. My doctors have been so helpful and the hospital I’m with never has let me down. So everything crossed. But totally understanding the pandemic and if maybe taking a bit longer. Shall keep you updated x

@Penguinmumma yes, I’ve had a pelvic ultrasound which showed the lining of my womb fine, the womb fine itself, just my ovaries were apparently “bulky” and had cysts which my doctor said looked like mild polycystic ovaries, but bloods were done an all came back negative. All bloods I’ve had have come back clear and fine and I really do wish I just had an answer other than “it might just be bad luck”🙄 I have heard about the cervix stitch also. When I get the appointment for the miscarriage clinic they will be hit with all the questions😂

Another thing I was panicking about and reading into, I had bacterial vaginosis at a swab I had done. Didn’t know how long I had it, but didn’t have the smell it’s suppose to have, so that’s why I didn’t notice it I presume. So I had antibiotics for that. But I was afraid that’s what had caused the miscarriages because I must of had it for all 3 pregnancies

@MollySxx hi, thought i would jump on as i have just gine through my 2nd MC, bleeding stopped a 10 daus ago. Looking at TTC again soon. Ive got pregnacare, c0q10 and ive bought aspirin aswell today. Not sute when ill ovulate or AF yet after the mc xx

MollySxx · 26/01/2021 21:11

@Emmav2020 I’m so sorry to hear that🥺 I would definitely wait till you get your period before trying again. I have noticed from my miscarriages my period has been so heavy the first few days and then it’s next to nothing. But let your body heal and then do what you feel comfortable with. That’s the plan I’m going with now, I know I’m ovulating or close to it, so I’m just going with the flow and really not trying to put pressure on myself. Which is easier said than done, because I can’t put into words how much I just want a healthy pregnancy and baby in my arms at the end x

An update ladies! I had a call yesterday from the hospital and I have a phone call consultation with the doctor from the miscarriage clinic on feb 4th. So fingers crossed it’s all goes smooth sailing. Wasn’t expecting anything to come from the referral until maybe summertime. presuming the phone call would be a face to face if we weren’t in our current situation regarding Covid🙄

OP posts:
Grognonne · 30/01/2021 18:51

That’s great news! Don’t worry about the phone call and not face-to-face. I cannot think of anything did said at the appointments that couldn’t be done over the phone. Any tests are sent for afterwards, and you have the added bonus of not having to hang around the hospital! Good luck!

MollySxx · 30/01/2021 19:51

@Grognonne I have a notebook of questions at the ready, if I’m allowed to ask that is. Presume it’ll be like a background medical history check for my pregnancy losses. On the right path🤞🏼 Hoping for a positive pregnancy test month next month also. But I’ll pick and choose my battles😂

MollySxx · 05/02/2021 11:21

An updated ladies and hoping you’re all well💓

Had my call with the miscarriage clinic consultant yesterday afternoon. And it was a positive outcome in my opinion. So all my bloods as we all know have come back clear and down. No thyroid, no blood clotting, no polycystic ovaries. But I did have a swab for BV at my doctors a few weeks ago and it came back clear for that, but showed a high volume of discharge which wasn’t bacterial or appeared infection, but it is group b and I’ve been prescribed a week course of penicillin and then a swab after the course to see if it’s helped that high volume of discharge.

The miscarriage clinic have said it’s a positive all my tests have come back clear, they aren’t worried about my fertility since I’ve been pregnant 3 times in one year. And because I carried my twin girls till 24 weeks. But because the miscarriages they’ve ended around the same time, they gave me a prescription of progesterone to have when I find out I’m pregnant again. So I take that soon as I find out, till I’m 16 weeks. They have honestly put in my notes that it’s a must I have a scan at 6 weeks and 7 weeks for reassurance. So all in all I am happy with that outcome. We’ve been trying this month, and I’m 5 days away from my period. But I am happy with that information and if we aren’t this month, I know I have that when the month is my month x

ANOTHER update ladies💞

Coming in very early and I just had the urge to test this morning after I finished work. 4 days away from my period, so really not running away with excitement just yet. Even if I did jump up and down and scream to my partner😂 but I have a positive test this morning🥰

@MollySxx aww congrats so happy for you.

Im testing next week, still no period and its been a months now since my mc bleeding stopped. Xx

MollySxx · 06/02/2021 12:28

@Emmav2020 I honestly can’t believe it. I was convinced I didn’t ovulate, was just so certain this month wouldn’t be our month. Had the wine out last night and then my boss text me to work today, so the wine went away. And thank god it did😂

If any reassurance my period after my first miscarriage missed a whole 2 months and I didn’t get my period back till the June and I had the miscarriage in April x

SweetShopSurprise · 06/02/2021 12:38

Ah, just read this thread from start to finish. So pleased for you OP and wishing you a very happy, healthy pregnancy Smile

I had what I think was a chemical in December and my friend who’s had 2 miscarriages said she started taking low dose aspirin as advised by her private consultant when TTC for a 3rd time. She had a healthy pregnancy with that and gave birth a few weeks ago. So I started taking low dose aspirin just before ovulation last month just as a precaution. I can’t find anything convincing to say that it can do any harm, only really read positive things so figure there’s no harm.

Didn’t get a BFP last month but am hoping for one this month!

Emmav2020 · 06/02/2021 12:39

@MollySxx ohhh right thats reassuring. I think i ovulated last week, on thur and friday i was some twinges and discharge. Also are you taking aspirin? Ive got some abd been taking for last 3 days x

MollySxx · 06/02/2021 12:44

@SweetShopSurprise oh that’s so lovely to hear about your friend🥰

A chemical is something I’ve never heard of until it happened, I was like “a what sorry?” I found out in October 24th and started bleeding on the 31st. So a exactly a week after finding out. I was really hurt by that. I thought I was a failure and then read about how common it is.

@Emmav2020 I am currently taking aspirin, but I’m just taking 75mgs a day and when I talk to the doctor on Monday I’m going to ask if I shall continue as I’ll be prescribed the progesterone then also which they are really confident with and I have read a lot of positive stories x

OP posts:
Emmav2020 · 08/02/2021 17:37

Ive not been on here that much. Ive still had no period since mc bleeding on the 9th jan. Would you test some point this week?? Last week i had twinges for 2 days.

Also ive had sharp pains today in my vagina area, anyone know what this could be? Xx

MollySxx · 08/02/2021 18:32

@Emmav2020 in my personal opinion and don’t want to fill you with false hope. I would test. You can still ovulate still. I had my chemical in the October and didn’t have a period whole of November and I tested positive in December, so it’s still a possibility. Obviously I didn’t stay pregnant that month. But that’s not meaning my outcome will be your outcome. Test and put your mind at ease x

Moominmiss · 08/02/2021 18:48

@MollySxx congratulations!

I’d stick with the aspirin.

I’m currently 7+1 after 4 miscarriages in 12 months.

I self medicated and took 150mg (the new recommended daily dose in UK), aspirin from 1dpo and have been advised I will likely be kept on it for the duration of the pregnancy as it really can’t do much harm and the benefits are substantial. My midwife is all for it.

I was also put on cyclogest progesterone pessaries from just over 5 weeks and will continue with those until 16 weeks.

We’ve had a few early scans and saw the heartbeat at 5+4 which is by far the best outcome we’ve had so far. In the miscarriages we never saw a heartbeat even with my 9 week loss. So, so far this is proving to be the most successful pregnancy. Obviously still very early days but I am definitely thinking the aspirin made the difference!

Emmav2020 · 08/02/2021 18:56

@MollySxx ok im going to order sone tests from Amazon. My other problem is i have a smear booked in for thursday aswell. Aww sorry you had another mc 😩

@Moominmiss ive also been taking aspirin. 2 friends of mine had several misscarriages and then took aspirin and successfully pregnancies and they said they really thought it was that. I didnt no the does had changed, im taking 75mg at the mo x

MollySxx · 08/02/2021 18:57

@Moominmiss this has made me so happy reading this! So so happy for you💞

And I’m currently doing the aspirin, one in the morning and one before bed. Still waiting for my doctors response so I can hurry up on the progesterone that the consultant wants me on. She’s said the exact same way yours is. On it soon as I find out until 16 weeks. And I will have an early scan at 6/7 weeks. I’m the same as you also, had one scan with my miscarriage in the March and that was a private one I paid for. Didn’t see a heartbeat as the day before I went was the day I started bleeding. So it just confirmed the miscarriage.

I haven’t registered with a midwife yet, I’m just going to wait to hear from my doctors tomorrow. But so far I am feeling really positive. Also did another test this morning and the line progression is getting stronger. Shall attach a picture along with this x

@MollySxx that line progression looks great!!! You must be so pleased.

Hopefully they’ll get you on the progesterone soon, I wasn’t started on it until 5+4 so don’t worry yet, just keep pushing them to hurry up and give it to you.

Yeah with my 9 week loss, I’d had a private scan booked for 8 weeks, but a couple days before I started spotting on and off. I cancelled the private scan as I was certain what was happening. I ended up being seen in the EPU and the pregnancy dated behind where I expected it to be, and no heartbeat. I carried on spotting and they had me back a week later, fetal pole had grown a lot but still no heartbeat. They wanted to scan me again a week later. I finally miscarried naturally at home before I made it to the next scan.

I haven’t seen a midwife yet, but I text her to let her know I was on aspirin etc. She’s the same midwife I was assigned through all my pregnancies so she was interested in how I was getting on. She’s booked me in to see her when I’ll be between 9 and 10 weeks.

Congratulations again and I hope the aspirin does for you what it’s been doing for me so far!!
