TTC after a chemical pregnancy / early miscarriage

Hi everyone, on a few really supportive threads on here but thought I’d make another for anyone who may be in a similar position to me and we can support eachother... I’m petrified of trying again after last month tbh.

Last week I thought our dreams had finally come true when I got 3 BFP (including a digital!).. a week later I was bleeding and a call to the EPU confirmed it was a chemical pregnancy / early miscarriage.. so I’m back here and tomorrow will be CD1 cycle 4 (I know so many people have been trying so much longer) but just didn’t expect to be back so soon after getting a BFP.

So tomorrow marks CD5.. AF is due around 1st August and I promise to not POAS (apart from the one I need to pee on tomorrow to confirm the pregnancy is gone!) until 8th August if AF doesn’t show.. I can’t risk seeing a chemical and testing early again so have told myself never again will I test early.

Would love some buddies along the way with me 🤞🏼🌈❤️

Hey ladies, how is everyone?

I've had such a weird cycle this time round, I'm on CD21 today, 7 days AF then from CD13 till yesterday I've had pink/ peachy CM 🤔..as anyone experienced this?

Amy259 · 18/12/2020 09:48

Hi @Boo2020!

I’m having a weird cycle this month too. I normally ov on CD20 like clockwork, peak 18/19 and see my temp rise start on the morning of 21 to confirm then have 33-35 day cycles. But this month I seem to have randomly ov on day 15.. 5 days early. So strange. If that’s right, I’m now 11dpo (bfn) and due af tomorrow/Sunday. So weird!

I’ve never had coloured cm, I actually barely get any, so sorry I can’t be much help there! Have you had a positive opk?

Boo2020 · 18/12/2020 10:08

@Amy259 thats strange!! Do you use OPKs?

I think I might have ovulate on CD16 but it doesn't seem like a peak 🤔 I've attached the pic x

Amy259 · 18/12/2020 10:20

@Boo2020 yeah I do use OPKs, I always start testing on cd15 because the earliest I’ve ever had a positive was 18... but on cd15 my opk was 0.79 which is pretty high for not a peak day. And I had ewcm on 15 and 16, and my temp is high. So I’m guessing must’ve been cd14 peak and I missed it but caught the end of the surge? I’ve continued to test LH every day and nothing since and now I’m on cd26 so I’m pretty sure it was early.

Looks like maybe it was through the night on 15 for you? Then ov 16/17? Do you temp?

Boo2020 · 18/12/2020 10:29

@Amy259 it does seem like you ovulated early, I use OPKS (1 a day) the very first day after AF as stopped, then once i see either it gradually getting darker or roughly when i think I'm going to ovulate i then test twice a day! Maybe start testing early next cycle but fingers crossed you have caught it 🤞🏾.. although they do say its after the peak (once it goes light) you release your egg!?..

This is my chart attached, although I am pretty crap with charting my BBT 🙈 ..x

What cycle is everyone on after CP? I got my period yesterday on my second cycle after chemical and feeling quite down, stupidly I was reading stories of people falling pregnancy quickly afterwards!

Amy259 · 18/12/2020 15:05

@Boo2020 fingers crossed that was the end of your peak you caught! Yeah you ovulate 12-48 hrs after you peak, so normally the OPKs will be negative again. Some women surge for longer and have positive OPKs for a couple of days but ovulation happens 12-48hrs from the first positive apparently.

@mabel9 I had my chemical mid Sept so I’m currently in my 3rd tww since then. Yeah I’d seen so many stats about how you’re apparently most fertile in the 3 months that follow so thought I might be preg by now!

mabel9 · 18/12/2020 16:36

Good luck @Amy259, I’ll keep my fingers crossed. Yeah so was I reading lots of stats and know lots of people who fell quickly straight away, ah well just keep going. A bottle of wine for me tonight. I hope everyone else is getting on well.

Cornertakenquickly · 22/12/2020 11:51

I had a chemical in October and today I got a BFP. I don't feel that excited because of how quickly things ended the last time. So just trying to take it day by day.

I only took a test because I thought I was due AF on Christmas Eve (it's actually tomorrow) and I wanted to deal with any sadness before Christmas.

I just needed to tell people who will understand the mix of emotions going on right now.

Amy259 · 22/12/2020 12:04

@Cornertakenquickly congratulations! I can’t imagine how you must be feeling, but I’m guessing a little scared to be excited?

Maybe just try to break it down to mini milestones? Getting a bfp, then getting a positive digital, then say going to “2-3 weeks” on the CB week digital if you didn’t make it there before? Then 5 weeks, 6 weeks etc? Once you reach 6 weeks there’s something crazy like an 80%+ chance that you’re in the clear, so just try to focus on the mini milestones rather than the overwhelming thought of the months to come? I’ve not been through it yet so I can only guess at what could help, but hopefully you can find a way that works for you to enjoy it and manage the (totally normal) worry ♥️

Blughbablugh · 22/12/2020 12:05

Hi @Cornertakenquickly I totally understand how you are feeling. I had a miscarriage at 5 weeks, I'm now pregnant again and 12 weeks, have my scan tomorrow but had an early scan at 9 weeks and saw baby and heartbeat. I think it is so different when you have suffered a loss and I have found it very difficult to get excited about it, constantly checking for any bleeding and worrying that it will go the same way. My advice is to take it a week at a time. Every pregnancy is different and so your odds are in favour with that. Take care and good luck with it all!

Cornertakenquickly · 22/12/2020 13:43

@Amy259
Thank you for your kind and wise words. I got to 4 weeks 5 days last time and I'm technically 3 weeks 6 so will be taking it bit by bit. Mini milestones are what it will be. One week at a time.

@Blughbablugh
Thank you for your great advice. And a huge congratulations on your pregnancy. Hope your scan goes well tomorrow. ❤️

Boo2020 · 28/12/2020 11:53

Just had some creamy pink discharge 😳 im 8dpo, slighty panicky, I don't know what to think!! As anyone had this?

Mishmased · 01/01/2021 17:49

@Littlebee1990 great to hear things are ticking away nicely for you 😁
@Boo2020 how are things now? How many dpo are you?

Boo2020 · 03/01/2021 11:41

@Mishmased looks like it was AF very strange cycle though, CD4 for me now so fingers crossed for this cycle 🤞🏾..

I've ordered some concieve plus fertility support tablets, never tried them before but I thought its worth a go! As anyone tried them before?

Amy259 · 03/01/2021 12:58

Hi ladies, so lovely to hear from you all! Happy new year!

@Boo2020 aww no, I was hoping it was implantation bleeding! I had a weird cycle last month too, no idea why and not even sure if I ovulated.
Not tried those supplements, but can you keep me updated please? I’m on pregnacare and they’ve been fine and not messed with my cycle but always good to hear about others.

@Mishmased how are you keeping? How far along are you now? New job starts on Tuesday, thank you for asking! Excited to get going now.

@Littlebee1990 what a lovely update! Fingers crossed we’ll all be joining you soon!

I’m on cycle 6 now, CD13 and waiting on peak. Started dtd in our fw now. Weird cycle last month, no peak detected and 5 days shorter than normal - really weird! But still plodding along, growing more impatient and deflated by the month 😂

Mishmased · 03/01/2021 13:20

Ah @Boo2020 onwards and upwards. My pharmacist friend did give us proceive and conceive plus sample packets she got from work and said good things about them. We never used them as we had two smallies and they expired. She did say they are great.

Mishmased · 03/01/2021 13:23

@Amy259 so lovely to hear from you! And you're starting the job on Tuesday that's fantastic news! I'm 19 weeks and doing well with the usual niggles. I managed to slip down the stairs last night so I'm I extra pain. I'm seeing physio on Tuesday so can manage with heat packs today and tomorrow.

Amy259 · 03/01/2021 13:31

@Mishmased ahh lovely! Do you know what you’re having? Oh no, hope you’re not too sore - you’ve had such rubbish luck on the pain front.
Yes looking forward to it! It’ll be nice to have something to stress about that isn’t related to my still empty uterus 😂

Mishmased · 03/01/2021 13:39

@Amy259 not yet although on my last visit to ahem A&E on NYE doctor guessed 90% girl but he's not a sonographer so not as experienced with scans. Anomaly scan is on the 19th and partners are allowed now so DH has pencilled it in his diary. You'd think he will bored third time around but no 🙄

No disparaging talk about your uterus, it is def not empty and will be very busy soon, just hang in there ❤️
Once the first baby comes along, the second will follow in the next 18 months so just enjoy this time❤️❤️

Balajake · 03/01/2021 15:05

So I started TTC in Feb 2018. Id had 3 healthy children previously conceiving my first month on all of them but my last baby was 10 years earlier and I’d just turned 38.
Every month using opks, timing intercourse and nothing happening. I’d started to feel unwell, thirsty, sweating, unable to sleep at night due to a painful dry throat, peeing constantly. I had it in my head I was going through early stages of menopause so booked in the doctors. Blood samples all came back saying hormones all good and not menopause. My urine sample however showed blood and very high glucose levels. I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes m, put on metformin and I started to feel a little bit better very quickly, around 3 weeks later I did a test and I was pregnant. You can’t imagine my joy

I was a tough pregnancy as I was put on 2 types of insulin, injecting fragmin and having antenatal appointments every 2 weeks and scans every 4 weeks. My waters went at 31 weeks and slowly over the next 12 days my waters were gone and baby had wedged himself sideways and they decided to to an emergency c section that day at 32w 6days. He was born 4lb 12 and did really well and was home 12 days later.
When he was 6 months we decided to start TTC again because I wanted him to have a sibling close in age as my others had big gaps between them. We thought it would take ages but I got pregnant that same month and we felt so lucky again. Around 10 days after my BFP I went to the loo and had a salmon coloured discharge when I wiped. No blood or pain but I had this for about a week and mentioned it at booking in. I had a scan at around 7 weeks which showed baby and heartbeat and it all looked great.
My 12 week scan came and sonographer decided she needed a better look and decided a trans vaginal scan would be better. She was very quite as she took her measurements and said she’d found some serious abnormalities and told my husband to come in. She said NT was measuring 5.6mm and baby measuring 1 week behind. There was also fluid around the heart and abdomen and stomach wasn’t closed although that could resolve itself. I was booked in for a CVS a couple of days later. They were really good at the CVS, they showed me the baby again and let me hear her little heartbeat. The NT was still 5.6mm which confirmed what previous scan had shown and we discussed all possibilities such as Chromosomal abnormalities like Edwards, Patau and downs.my heart just sunk. I knew the first 2 were a death sentence for my baby. I hoped if the worst news came it would be downs because lots of times you see children with downs who don’t have severe heart issues or other things that could mean death. I mean there are challenges but you can have a very good outcome and heathy child.

The news wasn’t good though and 2 days later they called to say baby had Trisomy 18 which is Edwards syndrome. Everyone was so sorry and the decision was made to have a TFMR. March 13th 2020 I went under general anesthetic and in the blink of an eye I woke up very sore and just cried my eyes out. I was discharged that night with iron tablets and pain relief. A week later I found our my baby was a little girl and we named her Millie. She was cremated and ashes scattered in the rose garden at the crematorium where all my family are.
I started TTC as soon as the bleeding stopped. Month after month BFN and me growing more desperate and feeling like the termination may have damaged something and I’d never get pregnant again. April, may, June and so on when finally November 23rd at 9dpo I got a vvvvfl on a cheapie. Same at 10dpo,11dpo a little bit darker and 12. I decided to buy a frer at 13dpo and to my surprise it was very faint. I did another at 14dpo and 15 and although they were a little bit darker they were never as dark or nearly as dark as the control line. I was panicking so much because with my others I always had very good progression. A digital confirmed pregnancy though so I started to believe and tested every few days with cheapies till I ran out of tests at 25dpo. My cheapies were much darker so I quit worrying and booked in with midwife.

Christmas Eve I woke up and had some spotting. It freaked me out so I called EPU and they told me to come down. I was supposed to be 7w 2 days and the lady scanning me told me there was a yolk sac, fetal pole but no heartbeat. I was only measuring 5 weeks but I knew my dates were spot on because I’d had a positive test at 9dpo on 23rd November and last period was 3rd November. I was told to come back in 2 weeks to check progress. Christmas Eve night though blood because heavy and red and I began cramping and passing clots. Christmas Day was spent in pain trying to be brave as I didn’t want to ruin kids Christmas. Boxing Day night I was in agony and morning of the 27th I passed something in the toilet and pain seemed to ease off almost immediately as I felt whatever it was come out. I had a scan on the 31st which confirmed I’d lost the baby and no retained tissue. I stopped bleeding and tests negative.

I’m going to TTC again now it’s over. My family think I’m mad but I just can’t go through all that and give up. Sorry for the huge post but I feel like I’m struggling with my emotions and it’s hard to express my feeling to my own family. Here I feel like others know what I’m going through

Xx

Mishmased · 03/01/2021 16:48

@Balajake I'm so so sorry for what you went through, I'm in tears just reading this. You've been through so much sweetheart. You're right sometimes people don't get it especially if you already have kids, it's almost like why do you want more. But they just don't understand and we can't be cross at them for their lack of understanding. I'm so sorry for what you had to go through on Christmas Day of all days. Please continue to post here as we are here to support you. Make sure you're getting loads of rest. Will you be going back to epu for bloods to check hcg levels? Just take it one day at a time, you will get through this ❤️❤️❤️
