Anyone looking to start TTC in New Year?

Join here please! I’m still taking my pill at the moment but current packet runs out on 7th Jan so planning to start then but not really track anything officially. I’ve been reading up about conception vitamins and going to buy some this week to start taking after new year- does anyone have recommendations for particular brands?
Will be my first but partners 2nd, very nervous but excited at the same time. No idea what to expect but hoping to have some ladies in the same situation to chat to!

I’ve lurked on these boards for flipping ages but only just started commenting on a few - We were TTC a while ago but paused for Christmas among other things (It was making me slightly insane so thought it would be good to have a chilled month of wine and cheese and not thinking about it) but will be having a fresh start in January.

I’ve just been taking Folic Acid and Vitamin D - with the FA I’ve seen on some websites they recommend you start taking it a few months before you start trying if you can. I’m planning on looking into proper vitamins in the new year too.

Hiiii! Currently on my last pack of pills got a week left to go and been reading up about coming off the pill and what vitamins I need to take as this will be both our first! Very excited but I do feel nervous

Yes! I started TTC in September and was pregnant the first month of trying then had a miscarriage and a big ordeal with 2 surgeries etc so I've given myself some much needed time off and me and DP have agreed to try again in the new year, I'm very excited

Ps. one of the nurses at the maternity hospital advised it doesn't matter what brand of pre conception tablets you use and that just a supermarket own brand of folic acid will do.

You can start taking it a while before you start TTC to help

I just took Asda folic acid and use pre-seed lubricant last time

Although since I'll probs be ovulating between Xmas and NYE, we've decided to start then without any pressure

I'm also taking folic acid since a few weeks back!
I'm taking magnesium, B6 and zinc supplements for some other health reasons ; haven't really looked into if it's safe for me to still take these during my conception phase
Is Vitamin C something we also need to take? Or maybe an all-around multivitamin?

How old are you all? I'm 28, turning 29 in August 2020. Am thinking that a baby born before I turn 30 should be feasible... Fingers crossed!

I am ! Next period is due this week on the 19th, tried an early detection test today and got a BFN. It hit me harder than I expected even though I was telling myself not to be disappointed. I know in my heart that my period will come this week. But hopefully next month we will get lucky. I just turned 30.

I agree with @GoldLeafTree I’m just using Sainsbury’s own brand folic acid. I bought it ages ago and it felt strangely exciting like I was properly getting things started. I might just be weird!

I’m 26, will be 27 in April.

Oh yay there’s a group of us! I was looking at the other threads and couldn’t really see one for those of us who aren’t quite there yet!

Thanks for the advice re vitamins, I will just get some basic folic acid and Vitamin D then, the conception vitamins are pretty expensive but it sounds like they are maybe a marketing thing? I did read too much vitamin A isn’t good but perhaps need a bit more research

I’m 32, turning 33 in February. Wanting to get started in January as I’m one of those people who assumes the worst so would like to find out early if there’s any problems. My partner has a child already so he should be fine

Is it just me who feels really grown up at the thought of taking folic acid 😂 I mean I’m 32 so should be grown up but it feels very responsible!

@yoomoo I know what you mean about feeling like "a grown up" about this. I almost feel like a fraud for even thinking that I want to start TTC! I'm 28 and do still feel a bit like a child myself .
But the biological clock is ticking HARD already (started about a year ago).

My pill runs out next Saturday so I THINK we have decided that I won't take any more after that, originally we said March but I don't know how long it will take for my body to go back to normal cycles! But will not be actively TTC, just seeing what happens!

@jaffacakegal I definitely recommmend stopping the pill now if you want to start TTC in March. For me it took 3 months for my period to come back! And I think for some people it can even take longer…
You could always stop taking it and use other forms of non-hormonal contraception for a while, to let your cycles get back on track :)

Hi! My husband and I are looking at tentatively "trying" in the new year. By that I mean coming off the pill and then just seeing if it happens naturally. I came off the depo injection 6 months ago so could take a while for my fertility to return, along with some health issues from him, we are sure it won't happen right away.

Morning all! Slight update here, had a bit of a heart to heart over a few gins last night. Talking about elderly relatives and how we’d like our baby to meet them. Anyway the outcome was we agreed to stop my pill immediately and see what happens. Not putting any pressure on it, could be 3 weeks or 3 months. Going to check with him this morning that he remembers what we discussed in case there’s any gin amnesia still going to enjoy Christmas with a few drinks, I don’t tend to drink that much anyway but I’ll probably have one glass of wine on Christmas Day. Not that I’m sure it makes any difference.
I’m mid packet so I guess I might bleed soon, no idea to be honest!
Hope everyone is doing well in the run up to Christmas. I’m off to heavily research what vitamins I need to be taking and get some down me haha!

Also anyone else acutely terrified at the thought of being responsible for a small human. I’m semi responsible for one now with my stepdaughter but the idea of having one wholly reliant on me is scary- will I know what to do?! Arghhhh!

I don't know what happens when you stop your pill halfway through the pack (I waited to finish it), but I guess you could become fertile straight away :)

I'm not terrified yet of the baby phase, as I'm mostly worried about the TTC process (am convienced it's going to take forever, and that I'll get really depressed over it) ; but I think the day I fall pregnant I'll freak out hah!

Me! I have a 2 yo DS and was pregnant again this summer but we lost it just before my 12 week scan.
We took a few months out to get my health back but we’ve agreed that we’re ready to try again after Christmas.
We’re taking the pregnacare him & her conception vitamins.

@yoomoo yes so exciting! We are very similar in that my husband and I love to discuss this stuff tipsy because it's so's scarily grown up to discuss sober 😂
I'm two days off the pill now, haven't been off hormonal contraception for probably 15 years or so!

@mimmi91 I have no idea either I’ve never just not taken it before! I am on Cerelle and don’t have periods at all so I’m not sure what happens next. I suppose I’ll test end of January if I’ve not had a period to see? Probably not had a proper period for maybe 10 years 🙈 that will be a shock!

@Kylee300 yes it does me too. I have been quite casual about it up until now but a few weeks ago I started getting really broody. Looking at babies etc! I guess it must be my age telling me to get on haha!

@lucymagoo totally with you there, our biggest conversations happen over a takeaway and a gin

The good news is he totally remembered the whole chat and even me checking last night that I definitely wasn’t taking my pill (always take it just before bed) so that’s good I hadn’t imagined the chat. Purchased some folic acid today and have taken one, did look at the conception vitamins but at £18 a packet I went for the £1.05 tub of Waitrose folic acid will do some more research on what else I need think someone said vitamin D too?

@yoomoo I'm taking a normal multivitamin, as I felt it was the most economical way of getting all of the recommended vitamins...
Read that Vitamin E, C and D are important, as well as Calcium and Iron. Am separately taking Magnesium for some other health reasons, but don't think that hurts :)
Only thing you shouldn't take too much of is Vitamin A apparently...

@mimmi91 I’ve just been on the NHS site and it recommends 400mg of folic acid and then a vitamin D tablet as well- that’s it. My normal multivitamins have vitamin A in so I’ve just taken the folic acid today, will get some vitamin D tomorrow.
Hope this is ok to post but I follow Luisa Zissman on Insta and she also recommends some additional vitamins for egg quality etc so I think I might give those a go. Thought I’d share the details of what she took in case it’s of interest to anyone else. You can find the full details on her blog.

It turns out the normal multivitamin I take has 100% RDA of folic acid so I'll probably just carry on taking that. Also just trying to healthy in general and get a lot of veg

Really glad to have found this thread as I am in the same position. My pill packet will finish on the 3rd January and me and my husband have decided its time we try for a baby. Slightly nervous of the whole TTC after reading all the threads on here as I had no idea there was so much to it. However, hoping to take a relaxed approach initially. Xx

@Florence13 welcome to the thread! So day 3 off the pill I feel so weird not taking it just before bed each night, I keep going to then take my vitamins instead! If anyone has a Lloyd’s pharmacy local I found a mum-to-be vitamin which has everything we need in it! Only £3.99 for 30 tablets which seems like a bargain compared to the big brands.
Anyone else who’s come off Cerelle recently find themselves wondering what their body is up to? My hormones have been all over the place last couple of days but sure that’s normal. I think I’m ovulating this weekend as I keep getting sharp pains in that area. Hope everyone else is enjoying the run up to Christmas!

So happy to have found this thread. I stopped taking my pills this Thursday. Very excited to hear how everyone is. I’m 32 and have been on cerazette for 11 years without a bleed so not expecting things to happen quickly. How long has everyone been on the pill for?
