Join here please! I’m still taking my pill at the moment but current packet runs out on 7th Jan so planning to start then but not really track anything officially. I’ve been reading up about conception vitamins and going to buy some this week to start taking after new year- does anyone have recommendations for particular brands?
Will be my first but partners 2nd, very nervous but excited at the same time. No idea what to expect but hoping to have some ladies in the same situation to chat to!

Tacking with BBT can help show when you've ovulated. Take your temperature every morning before you get out of bed, eventually you should see a pattern. Basically, your temperature will be higher after ovulation.

I'm not explaining it very well!

FertilityFriend.com is a really good resource on explaining BBTs.

You have to use a thermometer which goes to 2 decimals places. I got this one
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Thermometer-Ovulation-Easy-Home-Backlight/dp/B07KG9MNYZ/ref=mpssa115?keywords=bbt+thermometer+for+ovulation&qid=1577902410&sprefix=bbt&sr=8-5

I'm annoyed I'm not pregnant either....it's very weird because is literally only been 2 weeks! I think the waiting for AF is driving a few of us mad.

yoomoo · 01/01/2020 18:43

@NeverGotMyPuppy wow that was really quick! Like hearing stories like that though.

@JaffaCakeGal you are on! Are we doing Saturday or Sunday Grin I know it’s going to be negative but I feel weirdly terrified in case it’s not, I’ve been so adamant that it will take ages due to being on hormonal contraception for so long! Anyway will cross that bridge, going to tell DP later that I’m testing at weekend!
Ahh @switcharoo that’s lovely, my DP is also 40 this year in the summer so would love to be pregnant by then! My birthday is February so hoping to be out of limbo by then, could be best present ever.
Has anyone thought further ahead to pregnancy announcements? Can’t help but get ahead of myself and think how we’ll tell people. Definitely telling my stepdaughter first she’s going to be so excited, will also be more special if she’s first in family to know. God knows how I’ll keep it a secret until the first scan though, we’ve already discussed having early scans and the harmony test so are on the same page there!
Thank you @BernadetteThreep I will have a read up and give that a go! I just need to feel in control of something I think. Exactly the same as you only 2 weeks but getting annoyed Grin

So glad it’s not just me overthinking things though and getting ahead of myself it’s all very exciting Smile

I'm looking to conceive in February ideally too! It's my 30th and also our honeymoon so I'd like to be able to have a drink while we're away and not worry about nausea. February March would be ideal!

yoomoo · 01/01/2020 20:10

@lucymagoo yay a fellow February birthday! How exciting your 30th and honeymoon in the same month Smile where are you off to? If it’s not too outing!

Ooh can I join too please ? We’ll be trying for no. 2 in earnest from now. We were a bit careless in December but not properly trying so not holding out much hope for this cycle !!

lucymagoo · 01/01/2020 20:18

@yoomoo LA and Palm Springs! We've both been before many times but just wanted somewhere with guaranteed sun ☀️💖
Will hopefully be the last holiday with just the two of us

Florence13 · 01/01/2020 20:44

Aww feel so excited for you all. I take my last pill tomorrow then I'll be joining in the wait for my body to work itself out. I'm getting really excited now. Haven't even considered announcing a pregnancy but can imagine it would be hard to wait until after first scan.

JaffaCakeGal · 01/01/2020 20:59

@yoomoo if I get around to buying tests then I'll do it on Saturday Grin just planning on getting pound shop cheapies for now!

lucymagoo · 01/01/2020 21:03

I would love to surprise my mum with her first grandchild for her 60th this year, that's the only time I've thought about how I would announce it. She'd be absolutely made up

rhirhibumblebee · 01/01/2020 21:20

@Fluffysocks10 I buy the basic Pregnacare that's got everything in. It's around £4.50 for a month supply. I just add it to the food shop when I order. It's sometimes 3 for 2 in boots too xx

Lola871 · 01/01/2020 21:57

Hi all, can I join please? My OH and I have decided to start TTC our first. I actually had my coil removed a year ago and we did 5 months of not trying but not preventing, but looking back we never managed to DTD at the right time! I then got a new job so we held off for a few months, I've been there 3 months now so have decided to actually try this time.

Just went past ovulation over Christmas so I've got a week until AF, then will be looking forward to a fertile window starting around the 20th Jan (my cycles are variable but only by a few days so not too difficult to work with hopefully!).

I'm not planning on using OPKs or anything like that, at least to start with! Good luck everyone, hopefully lots of BFPs to come early in the year!

lastonetime · 01/01/2020 22:05

Evening! May I join?
TTC our 2nd
Been off the pill for a year and cycles pretty regular, although had an ovary removed a few years back so not sure if that could affect things

yoomoo · 02/01/2020 08:51

Morning all!
Welcome @MostlyAmbridgeandcoffee @Lola871 and @lastonetime the more the merrier we’ve got a great group now!

@lucymagoo sounds amazing, we usually head off to the Caribbean in January but not going this year due to zika risk- I miss not having that to look forward to!

Still no sign of AF today although I’ve been reading up and as I think I ovulated around 20th December based on normal cycle lengths it should arrive tomorrow so we’ll see! I’d just really like to get the withdrawal bleed out the way then have something to work with. Never wished for it so much in my life Grin

@Fluffysocks10 I've been taking the tescos Folic Acid tablets for about a month (forgetting occasionally). If/when I get pregnant I'll add the vitamin d in as well. Its what I did last time. I'm rubbish at swallowing tablets, so the smaller the better for me, and I find the Pregnacare ones just too big.

@switcharoo snap. My OH is 40 in Feb too. If it doesn't happen this month he'll get a great birthday present as my fertile window is supposed to be during his birthday week Grin

BernadetteThreep · 02/01/2020 10:39

Still no signs of AF here!

OH is taking me to Greggs to get a vegan steak bake (apparently they have them now!) also KFC start their vegan burgers today (again apparently) so going to have a junk food day!

I'm not vegan, just vegetarian, but I'm very overexcited.

Lola871 · 02/01/2020 11:31

@yoomoo coming off the pill can do weird things to your cycle I think! Fingers crossed it gets back to normal soon for you.

I'm very impatient to get to 20th Jan so we can actually get on with trying! I knew I was ovulating on Boxing Day (I get ov pain) but it just wasn't sensible to try then as mat pay doesn't start until you've been working a certain amount of time and I would have been short by about 2 weeks, so annoying!

As an aside, does anyone know how may pay works if you have 2 jobs that both do enhanced pay? Don't really need to think about it yet but just wondering!

noonaah · 02/01/2020 12:01

Hello 👋🏻 can I join please? I’m a newbie to MN. My son is 2.5 and we’re starting to try for our second this week now that Christmas is out of the way. My periods are irregular though so expecting to be in it for the long haul, although last time we caught second month so fingers crossed!

lastonetime · 02/01/2020 12:05

@Lola871 that's a good question! Be interested to know the official answer to that

I'm sure you can only claim statutory once (but you two get two lots of KIT days) so maybe they both pay the top up ?

I'm in a similar position but only one pays enhanced so I'm assuming I just claim that one

MostlyAmbridgeandcoffee · 02/01/2020 15:16

Another bfn for me this morning - though AF not due until Saturday so I guess there is still some hope! Will test again on Sunday if AF not arrived before then! - anyone else testing then?

yoomoo · 02/01/2020 15:16

@Spark27 @switcharoo how funny that the 3 of us have OHs with 40th birthdays this year!

How was the vegan bake @BernadetteThreep?!

Yes @Lola871 I think it’s 26 weeks for mat pay isn’t it? Very sensible to wait! I’m not sure how it works for 2 jobs sorry but hopefully someone will be along soon!

Anyone else nervous of the impact on work of having a baby? That’s been my biggest worry what will happen work wise as I commute into London but will work that out in the future! We are considering the shared parental leave but it sounds a nightmare to set up. Anyway getting ahead of ourselves now!
Welcome @noonaah!

@MostlyAmbridgeandcoffee I’ll be testing over the weekend as I’ve been off the pill for over 2 weeks now and no sign of a bleed. But I highly doubt it will be positive so I’ll be testing again end of January.
Just want the withdrawal bleed out of the way so I can start tracking things properly, have some ovulation tests but no idea when to be using them so seems pointless at the moment!
I don’t actually want to fall pregnant until March but for some reason I feel disappointed that I’m not already Grin bonkers right?!

Spark27 · 02/01/2020 15:29

@yoomoo going back to work after having my DD was difficult. I was fortunate that I could go back part time (I now do 3 days), and I only have to pay childcare for 2 days. Nursery is so expensive.

Even now, 15 months after going back I still feel like I'm not doing as much as I was. But then I'm part time now, so it's to be expected. My work are absolutely fine with it and really flexible with me. And your priorities do change. I'll work to the best of my ability and do all I can, but ultimately my family are now my priority.
Balancing off the cost/benefit of pay vs. nursery fees vs. keeping current in the job market vs. spending time with a child can be a headache x

BernadetteThreep · 02/01/2020 15:42

The vegan steak bake was lush!

No vegan KFC for me tonight tho, DS is back from his dad's because he's been vomiting Sad he doesn't seem to be too bad atm, OH has gone to grab some more Calpol just incase tho. When DS gets a fever he tends to have seizures and hallucinations, so I always over worry when he's poorly.

Florence13 · 02/01/2020 16:15

@yoomoo I am also concerned about the impact on work and having a baby but ultimately will have to work it out when we get to having the baby part.

yoomoo · 02/01/2020 16:43

@Spark27 I think I will look to do 4 days so I can have one day off during the week with the little one. Otherwise I’m going to only really see them at the weekend given my commute! Something has got to give and it will be my career for a few years. I know my employer will be fine about it just the uncertainty that I don’t like but will cross that bridge when we get there! Got to get a cycle first Grin
Oh no @BernadetteThreep poor DS, I hope he’s better soon. Whenever my SDD is poorly I get the calpol out, it’s my answer to everything but it should deffo help reduce any potential fever.
