Anyone else right at the start of a new cycle? I could do with some cycle buddies.

I'm 32, cycle 5 and TTC first baby. Regular cycles of 27/28 days.

Feeling bummed today - I really thought this month could be our month after all the DTD! Had my first TTC cry yesterday. Is that pathetic after just 5 months?!

No! It's not pathetic - I cried after two months and then I cried even more when we got some shitty sperm analysis results and the next month I was pregnant. What I would say is that there's this feeling that it'll happen really fast and if it doesn't then there's something wrong - but sometimes it just takes a bit longer. Oh, and REALLY good advice from a doc friend of mine: have sex every other day from 10 days before ovulation to 10 days after (yes a lot of sex) but only every other day. Worked for us!

I am also 32 and TTC number 1. This is technically my first cycle. I've had a two month wait since stopping the pill. So was actually relieved to finally get a period yesterday! Hoping my periods get in to a regular cycle from now. I think it's natural to be upset after 5 months- from the outset we all know patience might be required, but it's hard not to become over-invested in the TTC process. I think it will be hard for me to keep chilled out!
Are you using any special techniques e.g. OPKs or SMEP?

Roo3125 · 17/05/2019 15:41

Af arrived on Tuesday evening for me, so CD4. I'm 26, TTC #1 and now on cycle #2.

It took 56 days for my cycle to regulation after coming off the mini pill. Thankfully last month I ovulated on CD13 and had a normal 28 day cycle.

Feeling a bit down today as I truly thought it would happen quickly. I know 2 months is nothing but it's still rubbish having af arrive after being hopeful.

Skyla01 · 17/05/2019 16:00

Hi Roo3125, chin up you are only one cycle down. And now you have a whole new cycle and opportunity to conceive! I hope my cycle is back to normal from this month.

Roo3125 · 17/05/2019 21:31

@Skyla01 Thank you! I really hope this is the one!

Dweebette · 17/05/2019 22:23

Hi there, I'm starting again too. 30,TTC #1, cycle 6, CD4. Was absolutely gutted this month as we did everything "right". I have irregular cycles (between 28 and 42 days) so it feels like we've been trying for ages even though this is only cycle 6. I'm so afraid it's not going to happen for us even though my head tells me it's ridiculous to stress so much so soon. Fingers crossed for this cycle!! Going to try OPKs for the first time too

Skyla01 · 18/05/2019 08:38

Good luck dweebette! It must be getting you down after 6, and the irregular cycles don't help either. I guess we all have to be prepared for the long haul, even if we're all hopeful at the start. Sounds like a good time to start opk though, and hopefully that will help!

Sleepyhead11 · 18/05/2019 12:38

Hey, is it OK if I join? Cycle day 5 as Af came Tuesday, fairly regular cycles, but for some reason I pinned a lot of hopes on last month (cycle three.) This will be cycle four.

I don't think it's unreasonable to cry at all @blackfriars. When you want something so badly and it keeps not happening it's really tough.

Peachyx2505 · 19/05/2019 16:39

Can I join your thread to? Af arrived today.... having a big fat roast and a bottle of Pinot to celebrate the witch.....

I'm 32
Ttc #2 (after left ovary and tube removal due to 3 dermoid cysts screwing it up and a dermoid removed from my right ovary)
Cycle 5 here. Regular cycles of 29-31 days. Apparently we've been timing it all wrong... 🤦🏻‍♀️ only 2 out of the 4 cycles we've actually dtd around ovulation. I was going by a luteal phase of 13 days... turns out it's 15!
Temping and opks again this cycle.... was going to ditch the bbt but I think I need it 😂

Keeping everything crossed ladies xx 🤞

Dweebette · 19/05/2019 16:58

Good luck everyone! After a complete meltdown yesterday (triggered by a pregnant lady in my yoga class, she did nothing wrong, just existed with her perfect little bump) I'm focusing on being positive. Hoping this is our month and we see lots of BFPs next month ladies!

blackfriars · 20/05/2019 10:13

Morning ladies,

It's really cheered up my Monday morning to get some replies to this and have some cycle buddies so thanks for that!

@BaweB - congrats on your BFP! I was really interested to read the advice from your doc friend. I do have a q though - if you kept DTD to every other day throughout your cycle you might potentially miss your day of ovulation and presumably your best shot at conceiving...did your friend think it was better to let sperm replenish than follow SMEP (DTD every other day from CD8 and then every day for 3 days from positive ovulation test, one day break and then once more)? I almost wonder if we had too MUCH sex this month just gone - pretty much every day from CD10 or so.

@Skyla01 - good news that your AF has arrived and you can get started properly now! We did SMEP last month (or a bit of a variation on it anyway - having a bit more sex than the plan recommends) and have been using pre-seed and clearblue ovulation test kits. Before that month we were just trying to DTD as much as possible in the lead up to and the fertile window. The one thing I haven't tried is temping, but can't see how this would be much help in addition to the clearblue ovulation tests, as I'm getting the flashing and then the static smiley using those and it seems like everything is in order. Though if anyone knows any reason why temping would help too I'd be interested to hear it!

@Roo3125 - I hear you, it's disappointing every time isn't it! I must admit I was surprised by how quickly this process really does take over so much of your thoughts. Fingers crossed for this cycle!

@Dweebette - we are very nearly in exactly the same position! I am cycle 6 and CD5 today. I really sympathise about worrying something might be wrong - I feel the same - also hard when everyone tells you the best thing to do is not stress....would love some advice on how to do that!!

@Sleepyhead11 - thanks so much, that's kind of you to say :)

@Peachyx1505 - sorry to hear AF arrived but sounds like you drowned your sorrows in the best way possible - I decided I deserved a large red wine or two on Saturday too (at my niece's christening, where about five people said 'You'll be next!' and basically asked if we were trying yet! What is wrong with people?!) Oh, and interested to read you've been timing things wrong - I think we timed our first two or maybe even three cycles wrong TBH. I was working on the basis that DTD in the lead up to ovulation would cover us and then finding we were burnt out by the time I actually ovulated, so probably missing the most crucial days! I feel like I'm on top of it now though (pun not intended - haha!)

Fingers crossed for everyone for this cycle! x

Hi everyone.
AF arrived yesterday. Gutted as I really thought we had done everything right this month after sussing out my cycles using Clear Blue digital OPK the last 4 months. Fingers crossed for June.

Age: 29

AF/BFP- 13th June ish

blackfriars · 20/05/2019 12:29

Hi @keeponsmiling 2019 - another cycle 6 buddy :)

Savvysaz · 20/05/2019 13:24

@blackfriars me 🙋🏻‍♀️ I need buddies. I’m letting myself get down after only 3 cycles but it’s tough when you do have sex every second day, track ovulation and still nothing. I’m 32 ttc baby number 1. Starting cycle 4

blackfriars · 20/05/2019 13:33

Hi @Savvysaz - I know what you mean (and hello!) I had a bit of a rant to DH the other day as, as much as he is invested in the process, it's me that's doing all the tracking and I feel like it's that that keeps it so ever-present at the forefront of your mind!

OP posts:
Dweebette · 20/05/2019 13:46

@blackfriars I hear you! DH just gets to enjoy the trying but it's us that has to keep track and make the bigger sacrifices. I had a good chat with mine at the weekend and he's definitely more on board this month and being so supportive.

Now I just need to decide when to start OPKs. Flo predicted ovulation on 2nd June but with irregular cycles it's hard to know so I'm thinking maybe the end of the week.

Skyla01 · 20/05/2019 16:23

It sounds like most of us are doing everything right. The stats say each cycle is about a 1 in 4 chance of conceiving, and many people who struggle a bit don't have anything wrong. Not sure if that is reassuring or not but what I mean is you just have to keep trying and majority of couples will get there in the end. Is hard not to get down when AF shows. I think I'm going to just take one cycle at a time, and give things a good shot each month. Try not to think too much ahead either until it happens.
I'm cd5 so looking forward to next week for ovulation hopefully and another chance to conceive!

Whyhaveidonethis · 20/05/2019 17:17

Cd 1 here. Cycle 9. Feeling really low as I got a BFP last week and it seems to have been a chemical as the line never progressed and was barely noticeable this morning. Started bleeding an hour ago.

Dweebette · 20/05/2019 17:38

@whyhaveidonethis I'm so sorry to hear this. Really hope you can treat yourself to something nice today and be kind to yourself ready to start again

Louise190 · 20/05/2019 19:03

I'm 28, TTC1, cycle 3, CD4 and I cry with every AF.

Only one CD behind you @blackfriars so I'll jump on board, if you don't mind!

I have heard that DTD every other day is better as it allows time for his swimmers to strengthen or something! I've got DP on Wellman conception vitamins this month as well!

Whyhaveidonethis · 20/05/2019 19:07

Thanks @Dweebette I honestly just feel exhausted and a bit ashamed that I feel so low, given I've only known since last week. Going to have a glass of wine tonight I think.

Dweebette · 20/05/2019 20:10

@whyhaveidonethis just right! What you're feeling is justified, no need to feel ashamed at all. TTC is an emotional business and I'm sure seeing that BFP sends your mind racing with excitement, it's totally understandable to be upset now. Have your wine and a good cry, relax and soothe yourself ready for the next run.

Peachyx2505 · 20/05/2019 21:44

So sorry to hear that @Whyhaveidonethis xx

@blackfriars temping last month has definitely helped me to prepare for this month 😂 dh won't believe his luck 😂😂
People can be so insensitive sometimes with comments like you'll be next.... it just wouldn't occur to me to say something like that because you don't know the struggles people may have been/going through. I hope you enjoyed the wine! I certainly did 😂 xx

Whyhaveidonethis · 20/05/2019 21:53

Thank you @Peachyx2505 wine has helped. I've had a good sob too which has helped. Onwards and upwards

blackfriars · 21/05/2019 09:39

@Whyhaveidonethis - I'm so sorry, I can't imagine how hard that must be after a much hoped for BFP. Glad you had a wine - you definitely deserve it. Hope the sunshine helps to lift your mood a little today (if you're in the UK that is!)

@Louise190 - hello! I have got my DH on the vitamins too, and we are going to try every other day until positive OPK this month, starting with CD8 (Thursday). Gearing up for another round - haha!

@Peachyx2505 I certainly did enjoy the wine....though if I'm honest I think there may have been a little too much of it!! Planning a quieter weekend this weekend :) xx
