Trying to conceive first child with PCO/PCOS or irregular long cycles

Hi there,

I'm currently on my 3rd cycle ttc my first child and I suffer with irregular cycles due to PCO. I conceived first cycle but it was a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks. My second cycle was a chemical pregnancy. I'm now on my 3rd and it's day 34 with no ovulation yet. I'm using Ovusense to temp which helps to show when I've ovulated. I can't help but worry it was a fluke to fall quickly like I did. Just wondering if there's anyone else in a similar situation struggling with long cycles as I'm finding it really frustrating. Looking forward to chatting to some of you! x

@SleepingStandingUp I'm the end it was day 36 so a real marathon. It's difficult to know with my sharp pains as I had surgery three months ago when I had my missed miscarriage. I got them last cycle but that was a chemical pregnancy. I'm surprised to have them if I'm not pregnant but could be my body still healing I guess.

Lol about not having them in the house. Annoyingly for me they were on buy one get one half price in Superdrug so I got 2 lots. I've already wasted one pack. When will I learn!

It would be so funny if we actually were both having twins and that's why we're so sick and twingy. I might wait until Sunday too if I can. AF isn't due until the end of next week as I have a long luteal phase. Xx

@EssJayyCee how are you getting on? Xx

OP posts:
SleepingStandingUp · 02/05/2019 15:27

I have no idea about my luteal phase, what it is or how long 🙈

Catconfusion · 02/05/2019 16:10

@SleepingStandingUp that's the distance from ovulation to your period. Average is about 14 days. Mine is 17 days. It's helpful to know. Xx

Well I would need regular ovulation to know lol. I will remember for next cycle though

SleepingStandingUp · 02/05/2019 16:25

uk.clearblue.com/am-i-pregnant/early-pregnancy-testing#cb-tools-earlytest-my-form

This says earliest is May 4th which is Sunday with an early tester one. Yesterday's was Boots.
Period due about 10th so will test the following Sunday too

Catconfusion · 02/05/2019 16:34

See I don't understand that. If a FRER gives results 6 days early surely that's 8 dpo. We're 9 dpo now and it's possible to get a positive test if it's implanted. Why wouldn't we test early? I guess if it's negative on Sunday it's unlikely to be a pregnancy since it's 12 dpo and would have definitely implanted by then. The thought of getting through a few more days is hard. I just want to know now. I guess my 36 day cycle hasn't helped. Hopefully it'll be good news soon! Xx

SleepingStandingUp · 02/05/2019 16:36

I guess even once it's implanted, which might not be yet, it can take time to push the hormones up

The second test after a false Sunday is unliky but I won't relax til I get positive or a period

SleepingStandingUp · 02/05/2019 16:40

Yeah read the rest of the page. It's just about the level of HcG so it's not 99% right at 6 days before period like it is day after it's due

Catconfusion · 02/05/2019 16:43

@SleepingStandingUp I read that most implantations are complete by 9 dpo though in some cases can take until day 12 to complete. It just seems crazy so many symptoms are there, especially the nausea without implantation having happened. As I said I got a positive on this day last time. I guess if I am this one might have taken longer. Like you say it's hard to relax without a positive test before AF comes and it's definite. We have the doctors tomorrow to get DHs sperm analysis results so I might ask for more tests to be done on my hormone levels. Xx

Yeah, can't hurt for a blood test to be done on you. Good luck for his lite swimmers. I mean his big, manly, fast and smart Olympic standard swimmers 😏😏

SleepingStandingUp · 02/05/2019 16:48

*little swimmers

Catconfusion · 02/05/2019 16:59

@SleepingStandingUp 😂😂😂

I hope so. It is quite impressive we've fallen pregnant the first two times we've tried so this would be our first failure as such if it's a negative test. It's no good if we can't keep them though! Yeah I'm nearly 40 so would be good to see what my egg reserve is like. I just hope everything is ok! Xx

They never even looked at mine. Just threw 6 months of clomiphene at me. If I see her in 6 months I must remember to ask though.

Thing is I could ovulate, but with PCOS there's no guarantee that egg isn't just stuck there 😭

Catconfusion · 02/05/2019 19:10

@SleepingStandingUp is this a fertility doctor? This is where temping is handy with pcos. If you have a sustained rise you definitely ovulated. I'm really surprised they just gave you clomid without looking at your hormones. How did they diagnose the PCOS?

Part of me wants a try on clomed. Apparently, it makes the ovulation stronger and risk of miscarriage lower. It can thin your lining down a bit though. xx

EssJayyCee · 02/05/2019 19:24

@catconfusion I'm okay but not sure if I ovulated or not.
My temp dropped at 4dpo and then 5 and 6 dpo rose .03 degrees each day and then today 7dpo it shot completely back up again.
fertility friend is still showing the dotted cross hairs so potentially still thinks I Ovulated.

Been having boob pain on one side today but other than that, no symptoms of anything.

But in all honesty I just want AF to come so I can start again.

SleepingStandingUp · 02/05/2019 19:47

My diagnosis was from my 20's when I went a year without a period and I had all the scans then. Had a laparoscopy for some low level endo too.
This time round saw the nurse attached to the fertility doc. Looked at we'd been trying for two years, my BMI was below the threshold and my bloods were okish but clearly can't conceive. Sent DH for sperm analysis and when that was normal she literally posted me 6 months prescription.

I think the fact it took a few years last time, simar length with no result, good sperm and my(our) ahes. I WAS VERY surprised it did take longer

Thing is even if I ovulate, it doesn't mean egg goes off to Fallopian Tube, when it comes out but sticks, that's when you get the cycts on the ovary which I have.

Will def temp next month

Hope something is clear one way or another soon Ess

Catconfusion · 02/05/2019 21:54

@SleepingStandingUp it's good that DH has good sperm and the Clomid should help. How many cycles in are you?

The cysts are caused by follicles that don't pop. Your body probably tries to ovulate before the main event causing the cysts or multiple follicles to develop. The progesterone that causes a temp rise has come from ovulation because the egg sheds its shell. As long as you have a sustained rise and a normal luteal phase there's been an egg release. Xx

I'm sorry @EssJayyCee that's so confusing for you. Do you think your GP would be supportive if you went and saw them? I do hope you get some answers! Xx

SleepingStandingUp · 02/05/2019 22:29

Ah OK, it's like someone told me 15 years ago and I wasn't listening properly 😂😂😂

We've been contraception free for 2 years. This is second month of clomid

Catconfusion · 02/05/2019 22:36

It's understandable @SleepingStandingUp

Keep going with the clomid. I've heard good things! Xx

OP posts:
EssJayyCee · 02/05/2019 22:53

@CatConfusion
I've been about the irregular cycles before had blood tests and an ultrasound.
Blood tests were normal and the ultrasound showed cysts on my ovaries but he was sure there was no underlying cause to the irregularities.

Catconfusion · 02/05/2019 22:58

That's right @EssJayyCee I remember now. How long will you have to try before a referral? If you're not ovulating on your own you could do with clomid. Xx

OP posts:
EssJayyCee · 03/05/2019 06:04

@CatConfusion He said 6 months but I'm worried if I go back after 6 months I'm going to be told I need to wait a year. My first cycle trying has been 2 months so far..
Do you think I need to try for 6 months or 6 cycles?

After the 4dpo dip my temp and the little increases at 5&6dpo my temperature has gone back up so I'm wondering if 5&6dpo had some kind of underlying factor why my temp didn't rise properly.

I'm trying to stay hopeful even though I know I'm probably out this month. Confused
