Trying to conceive first child with PCO/PCOS or irregular long cycles

Catconfusion · 21/04/2019 21:24

Hi there,

I'm currently on my 3rd cycle ttc my first child and I suffer with irregular cycles due to PCO. I conceived first cycle but it was a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks. My second cycle was a chemical pregnancy. I'm now on my 3rd and it's day 34 with no ovulation yet. I'm using Ovusense to temp which helps to show when I've ovulated. I can't help but worry it was a fluke to fall quickly like I did. Just wondering if there's anyone else in a similar situation struggling with long cycles as I'm finding it really frustrating. Looking forward to chatting to some of you! x

I am a bit worried with my AF since having MC.
I think I had one around cd 24 and 25 of this cycle which was just spotting so I didn't log it as a period and then I've started spotting again CD51 and CD52 (CD28 and 29 if I count the last lot of spotting as my period).

Anyway, I'm concerned that my periods have become stupidly light after miscarriage. I thought they were meant to be heavier.

Should I go to the doctors or did the MC just completely flush my whole uterus out that there just isn't much to flush out hence having super light bleeding?

Catconfusion · 07/03/2020 19:13

Hey @EssJayyCee your AF can change after a mc. Mine went from ridiculously light, like lasting a day to a few day days and a bit heavier. The AF before we conceived was back to quite light again. If you’re concerned see the doctor. I was really worried my lining wasn’t thick enough to conceive but the doctor said you don’t need much. In your case it probably is the hormones settling and your body recovering. Xx

So AF officially started today...
I am meant to be ringing the hospital to book my tube test on the first day of my period but with it being the weekend is the second day okay? 🤔

Avocuddles · 08/03/2020 20:09

@EssJayyCee tomorrow will be fine. They need to time it for after you stop bleeding so probably end of the week or start of next week I imagine. I conceived the next cycle after my HyCoSy so fingers crossed!

My AF has been very light after my miscarriages, as @Catconfusion says things might not be 'normal' for a few cycles as your body and hormones settle back down. I hope this is a nice short cycle for you....

EssJayyCee · 09/03/2020 23:05

I work all day and I only get a half hour lunch break which I forgot to call the hospital in. Do you think it matters if I call them tomorrow instead? @Avocuddles I have a feeling I will need to wait for my next cycle. I'm so stupid.

Avocuddles · 10/03/2020 06:25

@EssJayyCee it'll be fine, as I say they can't do the tests until the end of your period so hopefully they'll still be able to fit you in this cycle. Do you know which procedure you're having done?

Catconfusion · 10/03/2020 10:53

@EssJayyCee sorry AF is here. I had a cycle where I could have sworn I was pregnant and wasn’t. It really messes with your head. I hope you got through to the hospital and arranged your procedure. Xx

I have managed to get booked in for Next tuesday. It's a hysterosalpinogram. An xray of my tubes and uterus.
I'm a bit nervous about the process.

Avocuddles · 10/03/2020 14:01

@EssJayyCee it's natural to be nervous. I had a HyCoSy rather than a hysterosalpingogram (ultrasound rather than X-ray) but the painful bit is the same. I'd made the mistake of reading too much about it online so was expecting it to be agonisingly painful, yes it's pretty uncomfortable but the painful bit is over quickly and it was nowhere near as bad as I'd expected it to be. Take some painkillers a hour before the procedure and just try to be as relaxed as possible and it'll be over before you know it.....

EssJayyCee · 10/03/2020 21:47

@Avocuddles is an X-ray more dangerous? Also, will it have similar effects as the HyCoSy? In respects to fertility as people say they are more fertile after a HyCoSy 🤔

If I am still bleeding by then I can't have the procedure. I shouldn't be bleeding by then but sometimes for a couple of days after my period I get a sort if brown creamy cm would that still count as bleeding or would the be able to go ahead with that?

Avocuddles · 11/03/2020 06:34

@EssJayyCee I'm pretty sure you'll still be ok to go ahead with CM, as long as you're not actively bleeding. I had mine on day 6 of my cycle and had only just stopped spotting.

I'm pretty sure the being more fertile bit is the same - it's the flushing through with dye that some people claim helps to clear things out and that's the same whether you have X-ray or ultrasound. I don't think it's at all dangerous - we're all exposed to radiation in every day life, and by timing it at the start of your cycle they ensure that you're definitely not pregnant at the time.

Only thing I would say is don't get your hopes up too much that the procedure will help you to conceive on this cycle - when I had mine done the consultant saw a nice ripe egg that he thought would be released soon, however that cycle went on to last 60 days and it's seems that I never ovulated at all.... I did however conceive this pregnancy on the following cycle which was nice at short at only around 32 days. Good luck!

EssJayyCee · 18/03/2020 07:16

Hey how is everyone? X

Catconfusion · 18/03/2020 08:10

Hey @EssJayyCee, I’m ok thanks. Being super careful now pregnant women are in the vulnerable group. Also thinking about bringing the birth forward in case the hospitals get hectic. C section booked for 9th April but I could potentially have an induction in a couple of weeks. He’s engaged so clearly wants to come.

How are you getting on? Did you manage to book your procedure? Xx

EssJayyCee · 18/03/2020 20:04

@Catconfusion Aww that's my DP's birthday 😊
I'm sure everything will be okay for you.

This whole virus thing has gone crazy.
I am potentially out of work as of friday for the foreseeable future. So I am a bit worried about finance and stuff at the moment.

Yes, I had the procedure yesterday... I pote totally have a blockage in one of my tubes. She said you can't tell purely from the xray if it is a blockage or just a spasm but I can only imagine it is definitely a blockage.
Not sure what my next step is now because I am not supposed to be seeing the gynae until August.

Catconfusion · 18/03/2020 20:59

@EssJayyCee oh really! Yes I’m sure it’ll be fine for us. Such a worrying time to have a baby though.

I’m so sorry to hear about your job. I hope everything is ok. Glad to hear the procedure is done and you now know about the potential blockage. Are you to keep trying or are you putting things on hold? I really hope you can carry on and you get done luck soon! xx

OP posts:
EssJayyCee · 19/03/2020 13:13

@Catconfusion I am not putting it on hold because we have been trying for so long. Every month is precious!

I doubt we will have good luck any time soon. We aren't allowed good luck.

I'm not sure what will happen now if I have one blocked tube.

Catconfusion · 19/03/2020 15:08

@EssJayyCee I can understand you carrying on. It is a very tough and worrying time to be pregnant though. However if it happens this is precious and I’m sure you’ll get through it.

Everyone deserves good luck. It is not your fault this is talking a long time. Many people are in this situation. It’s not fair but it can only go on for so long and your time will come.

They should really be providing you with information about how the blocked tube will be treated. Could you call your consultants secretary? Xx

Avocuddles · 19/03/2020 20:49

Hi everyone. @EssJayyCee sorry to hear about your work situation and the inconclusive result from your procedure. Did they say what the next steps would be re the potential blockage?

@Catconfusion can't believe it's almost time for your little one to make their entry into the world! It feels like it's flown by - though I'm sure it hasn't for you.

I finally had some good news today - had my dating scan and little one was being lively, kicking and waving away, and measuring exactly in line with expectation at 12 + 3. We are so relieved and hoping that after a long couple of years it's third time lucky for us....

Catconfusion · 20/03/2020 08:26

@Avocuddles great to hear from you. I’m so pleased for you. It’s such a special moment seeing baby at 12 weeks. It just goes to show a long journey still often leads to success As frustrating as it is. I’m sure there are times you thought it would never happen.

It honestly still feels a bit surreal for me. Having seen the dark side of pregnancy I guess I won’t believe it until he’s here. It’s such a worrying time to be having a baby. I just want him here now so I’m going to ask for an induction at my consultant appointment next week. I’m now on crutches since baby engaged as my hips are painful so hoping he will be here in the next couple of weeks.

I really hope this corona situation is better soon since we’re now on the vulnerable list. Are you able to do extra social distancing? Xx

@Catconfusion fortunately I have a retail head office job and can work from home. I am however worried that I may be suffering from possible CV symptoms.... I've felt a little under the weather all week but just attributed it to being run down and stressed out at work / stressed in anticipation of the scan. Today though I'm convinced that I have a fever (thankfully quite mild), have a slightly sore throat, and can't smell or taste properly. I'm coughing occasionally but not much more than usual - I have mild asthma so frequently cough, especially if I have the slightest hint of the sniffles. What do you all think? I don't really want to have to isolate from DH but it's probably the advised thing to do.....

Catconfusion · 20/03/2020 22:32

@avocuddles maybe you’ve got a bit run down if you were worried about the scan. There’s definitely a lot of people with seasonal symptoms at the moment. I’d say if you’ve been near DH all week if you did have it, he’d have it by now so not sure isolating would prevent that. It’s difficult to know for sure as some people get very mild or no symptoms. Surely if it was CV and it was likely to get severe, it would by now. I really hope it’s just a slight cold or allergies. My DH and I have been a bit snuffly for the last couple of weeks. It’s a worry though feeling under the weather. I really hope you’re feeling better soon! Xx

OP posts:
Avocuddles · 21/03/2020 10:34

@Catconfusion touch wood DH doesn't seem to be anywhere near as susceptible to colds and respiratory illnesses as me, we do need to be careful though as he had a heart attack a few years ago and is on a lot of meds. Between that and my clotting history we make a right pair!

Catconfusion · 21/03/2020 11:28

@Avocuddles is DH able to self isolate with you? It’s just such a worrying time and I can imagine with underlying issues it’s even more terrifying. Also with a much cherished pregnancy.

I was so relieved when my DH said he could start paternity leave early next week. He’s a producer in a local radio station and it’s pretty low risk but a public building so you never know. Just want to go into hospital as fighting fit as I can! x

Hi, just an update.

My job is counted as a "Key worker" so my work is still open but I think they need us to cut our hours down.
I won't know the exact ins and outs until Monday when I can speak to my manager.

If I have to drop my hours to less than 80% of my wages I may as well be temporarily laid off.

Back to the TTC stuff..
@Catconfusion I phoned the gynaecology secretary and she said my DP needs to do another SA before they give us an appointment to discuss my results so I will be waiting a while now 😟

We BD'd yesterday which was 3 days after my HSG xray and it was quite uncomfortable do you think that's normal after a procedure?

My opks have been getting darker so I think I am due to ovulate this next week 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

My temps have been super steady (for me) as well since AF so I am feeling really good about having some signs of normality but I am going to do my best to try not to get obsessive over it all this cycle. 🤞🏻

@Avocuddles I am so happy for you. I am so glad you're finally getting some positive news.
How have you been feeling with pregnancy? Have you had any sickness or anything?

Trying to conceive first child with PCO/PCOS or irregular long cycles
Catconfusion · 22/03/2020 13:37

Oh dear @EssJayyCee I hope the job situation is ok in the end.

Did the secretary say it’s ok for you to carry on trying with the blocked tube I.e. no extra risk of ectopic pregnancy. I think that would be my concern. That’s such a long wait for you guys. Also not sure why your partner needs another SA if all was fine before.

I’ve not had any procedures so I’m not sure if pain is normal. I’d have thought there might be a bit of discomfort.

It’s great your temps are steady and everything is pointing towards O. Great if you can be as relaxed as possible. I’m trying my best at the moment but it’s so tough with all that’s going on. Anyway keep safe and good luck for next week! Xx
