Trying to conceive first child with PCO/PCOS or irregular long cycles

Hi there,

I'm currently on my 3rd cycle ttc my first child and I suffer with irregular cycles due to PCO. I conceived first cycle but it was a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks. My second cycle was a chemical pregnancy. I'm now on my 3rd and it's day 34 with no ovulation yet. I'm using Ovusense to temp which helps to show when I've ovulated. I can't help but worry it was a fluke to fall quickly like I did. Just wondering if there's anyone else in a similar situation struggling with long cycles as I'm finding it really frustrating. Looking forward to chatting to some of you! x

@ReSistingPink I've wondered about hypothyroidism. What symptoms did you/do you have?
And how did you finally get diagnosed?

Congratulations on the pregnancy! X

EssJayyCee · 22/04/2019 20:06

@Catconfusion ooh that's good! The ovulation wait is over then! Fingers crossed that yesterday was enough! Xx

rosequartz10 · 22/04/2019 20:27

I was diagnosed with PCO and am currently 12 weeks pregnant. The most effective thing I did was lose a bit of weight; I wasn't massively overweight but losing 1/2 a stone made a real difference in regulating my cycle.

I went on a mainly plant based diet - there's lots of peer reviewed research which suggests this is very effective at treating PCO and PCOS, rather than just masking the symptoms.

Once I got a positive peak ovulation stick, I conceived first time. I didn't get a peak until I'd lost some weight though. Whether it was just time or the diet I don't know, but there's definitely hope.

SleepingStandingUp · 23/04/2019 00:59

@Catconfusion hopefully his little sperm are still swimming about looking!! Tell him he has to dtd tomorrow night too, just to keep you topped up lol

Peed on a cheapie and it was still positive so currently tilting my pelvis to keep the little sperm in!!

EssJayyCee · 23/04/2019 07:19

Well, I didn't ovulate. Sad So the wait continues!

Catconfusion · 23/04/2019 07:46

Thanks @rosequartz10 it's always good to hear positive stories. I'm a weird one in that my periods got better with weight gain. I put on two stone and fell pregnant twice with a bmi of 27. Although they were both miscarriages. I do need to lose weight though as I put on another stone with the pregnancies as one got to 12 weeks. When I was skinny my cycles were awful. I do wonder if we all have a fertile weight that our hormones work best at and it's a case of finding it. Good luck! Xx

@SleepingStandingUp good luck. Interestingly I have a tilted uterus so laying on my front after sex is better for me. I think we're going to do it tomorrow morning as apparently sperm needs 24 hours to replenish. I got a rise today so I'm thinking O' is likely today or tomorrow! Xx

Oh no @EssJayyCee but didn't you say you'd missed your chance? Feel free to post your chart. It might be an ovulation dip so might happen today. If it does did you manage to dtd?

I got a little bit more of a rise today so it wasn't yesterday but could be tomorrow. I don't really trust opks so who knows. Here is my chart. Xx

@CatConfusion I thought I had missed my chance yeah but I was just glad I had potentially ovulated. Now I have to continue waiting for it and still none the wiser to when AF will arrive either!

Opks are too expensive to keep buying. Even the cheap ones. I have used 50 in only 1 and a bit cycles!

EssJayyCee · 23/04/2019 13:29

Here is my chart. It thinks I may have ovulated but I am not convinced as my temp change is usually alot higher and by the dashes it doesn't trust itself either!

Essay I took drugs day 3-7 so tested at day 12, negative. Day 14 negative. Day 16 low. Cheapie day 17. Day 18 low. Cheapie day 19. Day 20 ovulated. Day 21 cheapie - positive (yesterday) so 5 expensive ones out of a pack of 20 and 3 cheapie. I'll use cheapie until they say no again

Bit obv whatever method works for you works

Catconfusion · 25/04/2019 05:45

Hey @EssJayyCee sorry for the delay. Sadly those look like pre ovulation temperatures. How are your temps looking now? I really hope there's been a rise.

I've got mine over the last couple of days. Typically I ovulated on the day DH has his sperm analysis at the hospital so we'd not dtd in a couple of days. I have however read two days before O is peak fertility as it's best the sperms are there waiting when you ovulate. So I'm now 2 dpo and onto the madness that is the two weeks wait. Xx

@SleepingStandingUp did your ovulation get confirmed. I guess we probably ovulated on the same day or there abouts. I just wondered do you treat your body as though you are pregnant during the two week wait? I'm not sure whether to give up coffee this time. I only have one a day but might do. I'm definitely not having baths this time. Xx

How are you getting on @Niffler2019 ? Xx

OP posts:
SleepingStandingUp · 25/04/2019 08:44

Catconfusion not beyond the OPK. I had a blood test last time but they weren't ordered in time this time.
Re treating as pregnant, I don't know. I am about to drink coffee...

Catconfusion · 25/04/2019 08:59

Arh ok, just assumed you temp. If opks are reliable for you then I guess we're in the two week wait together. I've just had a tea instead of a coffee and feel completely unsatisfied so might have a coffee. I think one is ok! Xx

SleepingStandingUp · 25/04/2019 09:14

Tbh the temp thing confuses me. I might do that too next month if I get my period. And only been using the OPK since I took the clomidene and last month def didn't get my peak and bloods were negative.

What do people recommend for monitoring it?

My friend prayed I'd get pregnant and reckons it would be around my anniversary so if I do get pregnant this cycle her and God will end up taking all the credit 😂 (even though I'm pretty certain if he exists he has bigger issues to worry about)

Catconfusion · 25/04/2019 09:26

@SleepingStandingUp I use Ovusense which you wear internally and it monitors your temp while you sleep. It's pretty easy. Something called a Fermometer is good too. You take your temp when you wake up and it syncs to your phone.

I hope the cloned has worked for you. Xx

Internally??????? I'm not sleeping with a thermometer up my vagina!

I will have a google of them, hopefully we won't need to worry about it next month Cat Wink

EssJayyCee · 25/04/2019 18:47

Hi @Catconfusion still no luck here for me. I'm hoping this mornings dip may be ovulation but I can't feel hopeful about it! I think it's going to be a long annovulatory cycle to be honest.

Yeah I read 2 days before Ovulation is the best day for DTD as well fingers crossed it works for you!

@sleepingstandingup You can just get a thermometer with 2 decimal places and temp orally. Some say it's not as precise because there are factors that can affect it but it works for me (when my cycles are behaving)

I hope you're all okay x

EssJayyCee · 25/04/2019 18:48

Sorry here's my chart again

Trying to conceive first child with PCO/PCOS or irregular long cycles
Catconfusion · 25/04/2019 18:56

@SleepingStandingUp 😂😂😂 It sounds a bit odd but I find it works for me. My DH goes to work early and sometimes I wake up so worried about how accurate it was orally. Xx

@EssJayyCee I quite often get O with three downwards temps like this. You never know, don't give up just yet. Xx

OP posts:
EssJayyCee · 25/04/2019 19:05

@CatConfusion I'm not giving up I'm just trying not to stress myself out over it. If it happens it happens if it doesn't it doesn't.

How long is your luteal phase?

Catconfusion · 25/04/2019 19:09

@EssJayyCee that's a really good attitude to have. Mine is 17 days so pretty long. Only a day off normal so I try not to worry about it. Xx
