Trying to conceive first child with PCO/PCOS or irregular long cycles

Hi there,

I'm currently on my 3rd cycle ttc my first child and I suffer with irregular cycles due to PCO. I conceived first cycle but it was a missed miscarriage at 10 weeks. My second cycle was a chemical pregnancy. I'm now on my 3rd and it's day 34 with no ovulation yet. I'm using Ovusense to temp which helps to show when I've ovulated. I can't help but worry it was a fluke to fall quickly like I did. Just wondering if there's anyone else in a similar situation struggling with long cycles as I'm finding it really frustrating. Looking forward to chatting to some of you! x

@Catconfusion I thought normal was 14 days?
I vary between 16 and 18.. which I worry about because I thought the luteal phase was meant to be the same every time.

SleepingStandingUp · 25/04/2019 19:18

@Catconfusion Omg I was joking 😂

EssJayyCee · 25/04/2019 19:34

This is unrelated to cycles but what are your opinions on buying baby things before even getting pregnant?

I have thought about starting a baby box with little things in that would come in useful later on just so there is less to buy when I actually do fall pregnant..

Catconfusion · 25/04/2019 20:12

@EssJayyCee normal is 11-17 days. A short one is more of a worry than a long one and I wouldn't worry too much about a couple of days difference.

Hmm my views might be a little different on baby boxes because I had the miscarriages. We didn't buy anything until I was 8 weeks with the first pregnancy because the risk of miscarriage starts to go down. I didn't realise I'd be unlucky enough to lose the baby at 12 weeks. My DH had to hide the few things we got away as they upset me too much. I'd say if you think you'd be ok with having the baby box in the unlikely event you did have a pregnancy loss start one. It might be nice to feel like you're moving forwards by starting to plan for the baby. I'm also nearly 40 so a little worried we won't be able to conceive again or will have future issues. Personally I won't buy anything until the 20 week scan and I know baby is healthy but that's just me. Xx

@SleepingStandingUp it is funny when you think about it. I call it my Spermometer! 😂😂😂 xx

SleepingStandingUp · 25/04/2019 21:00

@Catconfusion yuk! I don't think i could use one, i can't even use tampons!

@EssJayyCee i didn't with first DS and i wouldn't with this one. I keep looking and our local Mothercare closed so lots was so cheap but i think if i don't concieve, or did and had a loss, i couldn't bear to have those things

Catconfusion · 25/04/2019 21:03

@SleepingStandingUp I've heard this one is brilliant https://www.amazon.co.uk/Smart-Basal-Thermometer-Femometer-Intelligently/dp/B072JRPYFR/ref=mpssa112?keywords=fermometer&qid=1556222579&s=gateway&sr=8-2

I think because it will be my first I am just so excited for it all and I can't help looking!

My partner and I aren't very well off in the financial department so I just thought if we started now it wouldn't be so hard later on but I definitely understand where you're coming from.

I can only begin to imagine how it must feel and that is one this I worry most about!

How long have you been trying for @Catconfusion? Is there a chance for IVF?

EssJayyCee · 25/04/2019 21:33

If you can't conceive?

Catconfusion · 25/04/2019 21:53

This is the thing @EssJayyCee we fell pregnant accidentally on our honeymoon. It was the first time we'd not used contraception. I then fell pregnant the next cycle after my surgery without a period. This was the early chemical pregnancy. This current cycle is our third cycle trying with the last two being miscarriages.

We wouldn't be eligible for IVF as we fell pregnant so easily. We're hoping it was just bad luck. It's likely the first baby had a Chromosomal abnormality which is more common than you'd think and not necessarily age related. The second was soon after I'd had surgery so likely my lining hadn't built up enough.

It does bode very well we've conceived so easily. I never thought I would with pcos. I think it's worth trying for a year. If we have another miscarriage we'd get referred to the recurrent miscarriage clinic. If I now have problems with ovulation we can have fertility drugs. IVF probably wouldn't be funded by the nhs when we're over 40 so not likely in the long run.

I'm sure we'll be fine but I want to mentally prepare myself for it not working out just in case.

I think it's a lovely idea to start buying the odd thing. Lots of people do it and as you say will save you money. Xx

Rather than buying stuff could you pop money into gift cards for places then when you get pregnant you have money set aside?

EssJayyCee · 25/04/2019 22:34

Oh I see, very quick conception then!
Fingers crossed your 2 days before ovulation worked this cycle if not I send you lots of luck for the next cycle or two!

It sounds promising for you anyway 😊

SleepingStandingUp · 25/04/2019 22:38

That looks good, thanks Catconfusion, but I'm not buying anything for another two weeks in hope lol

EssJayyCee · 26/04/2019 06:20

I have had a huge rise this morning! Eek! Fingers crossed it stays up!! Its the highest temp I've seen for a while 😬🤞🏻

Catconfusion · 26/04/2019 08:49

Yay brilliant @EssJayyCee I'm really pleased. What cycle day are you now? Xx

SleepingStandingUp · 26/04/2019 10:42

Aww that's great Ess. I took even just knowing you've ovulated is a huge relief

EssJayyCee · 26/04/2019 12:52

@CatConfusion I'm on CD47 I am hoping it is ovulation but the more I think about it the more im unsure as I remember waking up around 2am... and I took my temp at 6.15 so it was just over 4 hours sleep I just really hope it was because I ovulated!

@SleepingStandulingUp yes excited for ovulation because of the long cycle! I've been waiting and waiting for it!

EssJayyCee · 28/04/2019 08:40

I hope you're okay @CatConfusion ?

I just wanted to share I am 95% sure I have ovulated now. I think I'm 3dpo! With 3 consecutive high temps Grin
So, I guess I'm in the Two week wait now! Eek! Fingers crossed!

Catconfusion · 28/04/2019 11:36

That's brilliant @EssJayyCee How's your chart looking? I'm at 5 dpo according to FF and 6 dpo according to Ovusense. I've been feeling nauseous and was sick on Friday night. I'm trying not to read too much into it as very early. I did however get nausea early last time. I'm ok either way. If AF comes it'll be ok as this cycles has felt like a marathon. How are you feeling about a potential bfp?

OP posts:
EssJayyCee · 28/04/2019 12:15

Fertility friend has put a cross line on again now so that's positive. I've have a 36.67 36.45 and a 36.57 temperature over the last 3 days where as the last week or so they have not gone above 36.4 so definitely looking good!

Ooh that could be a good sign then! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

I am unsure I will get a bfp we DTD 3 days before O the day before O and the day after O so I'm not sure on our chances to be honest.

But I'll be so excited if I do get one!
So far no symptoms.

But yesterday morning I had the watery-est CM I've ever seen it was literally dripping down (TMI and not even exaggerating) which I have never had before. And then as the day went by it got thicker and turned a bright yellow colour. Not sure what that means if anything?
Also had a little twinge/numb feeling in right side of pelvic region.

I'm trying not to over symptom spot just so I don't get too let down if it's a bfn.

EssJayyCee · 28/04/2019 12:15

Sorry forgot to tag you @CatConfusion.

When is AF/Test day?

Catconfusion · 28/04/2019 14:16

@EssJayyCee great it's put the crosshairs in. It's better to dtd before ovulation anyway. The day before is perfect or even a few days before. Fertility goes down the day you ovulate. I'm not sure about the symptoms but interesting you haven't had them before. Most ladies don't get any symptoms early on apart from usual pre mensural ones so don't worry if you feel normal, it could still be your time. I will test in a weeks time at 12 dpo. I have a party that day so would rather know before I go, not that I'll drink.

It's so tough to keep indifferent to it when it's something you want so much. I'm just focusing on how I'll feel if it doesn't happen and making sure I draw lots of positives from a negative test. It would give me more recovery time after my miscarriages.

I really hope we get some good news on this thread! Xx

I ovulated 22nd so 12 dpo is next Sunday...

@SleepingStandingUp we're cycle buddies! Mine is the same! Xx
