@beckyboop1 You're totally right! The thing that's ridiculous is that I have so much to preoccupy me at the moment! For starters I get married in 10 weeks and then we have a honeymoon and there are things we want to get done in the house too. Madness!
I hope it all goes the right way for us all on here when the time comes anyway Grin

McHelenz · 25/02/2019 22:30

Me will be trying for number 1 In April or may 😊 when we are Zika free.

Currently on folic acid, temping and opking to get a cycle idea. Just want to get trying now.

McHelenz · 26/02/2019 17:54

Only just started actually monitoring my cycles. Very excited to see this!!

PancakeAndLefty · 26/02/2019 18:06

Hello ladies can I join you all please? We are planning to start TTC #1 in April (possibly May depending on a couple of things). I have PCOS and have been taking inofolic to try and sort my cycles out, and just started temping. I was also meant to be getting my weight down a bit so I really need to get on with that now!! We're so excited about the idea of getting pregnant this year but I'be always been given really vague wishy-washy advice from doctors about my fertility re the PCOS so I'm a bit obsessive about trying to do as much as possible to maximise our chances.

McHelenz · 26/02/2019 18:31

Hi @pancake we could be graduating to ttc together 😊.

I have started temping and OPKs because my mum said it took her 6 years to have me and it's really stressed me out. Getting that smiley has really cheered me up!

I was going to look at weight too...it seems to keep going up more than down!!

PancakeAndLefty · 26/02/2019 19:23

I was going to look at weight too...it seems to keep going up more than down!!

That's my problem too @McHelenz! Grin hopefully I can get a wiggle on now we're almost on March!

Pixierurubear · 26/02/2019 21:30

Hey can i join in too, we are planning to start trying from April as soon as we get married - which is of course very exciting for us too, im 31 and hes 34 so we feel its really our time to start a family, we've purposely waited until after the wedding is out the way to start. Its all so exciting and scary at the same time.

lewk · 26/02/2019 22:04

Quite a few people thinking of April time! Earliest for us is May (now I've worked my mat pay out properly). Feels a bit surreal that it's getting closer! It would be first baby so obviously is a massive decision and lifestyle change. Going to miss our lazy Saturdays and going out for dinner all the time etc but also feel so excited to be a mum!

McHelenz · 26/02/2019 22:23

My DH has said we need to push back (mainly because im terrible with money). I didn't get the amount saved I said I would be now, and didn't clear my credit card :(. However I have cleared my overdraft so im just working through bits. I should be clear by May.

Im 31 and DH is 35 so I feel like the clock is ticking too :(. He had mumps which is massively worrying, and my mum dropped into convo it took 6 years to have me. So im already anxious!!

PancakeAndLefty · 27/02/2019 08:33

May is still going to come round quickly @McHelenz and it sounds like you're doing all you can to be in a good position money wise! We are not ideally placed on that front as still in our 1-bed flat and saving for a house move hopefully later this year. Our flat is quite big though so we could stay here with a little baby if we can't move in time, but definitely not with a toddler!

I'm definitely going to do something about my weight now. If we do have problems getting pregnant I don't want that to be the thing that causes it and I'm about a stone overweight now. Easing in with healthy eating and exercise the next couple of days then I am going to track my calories and get a decent chunk shifted in March.

McHelenz · 27/02/2019 09:12

I'm about 5 stone overweight. It's depressing!

deathbycats · 27/02/2019 09:46

Tentatively chiming in here

I was wondering if anyone else has been in a similar situation - I've been losing weight, and since the New Year I've upped my exercise quite a bit, and have been eating less (probably too little if I'm honest) I've lost a stone, but well within a healthy BMI and body fat %. Anyhoo - I'm currently on CD38 which is odd for me because my cycle is usually 28-30 days. I'm trying to remember if I was ill around the start of my last period, because that's something that has caused me to have a later ovulation in the past, but I'm getting really worried (which also won't be helping!) that it's my diet and exercise that's caused no ovulation at all.

Has anyone here experienced anything like this?

I've done two tests, both BFNs. And I have started eating more to maintain my weight.

McHelenz · 27/02/2019 10:30

@deathbycats that sounds confusing! I haven't experienced that.

Maybe it would be worth speaking with your gp.

mussie · 27/02/2019 14:24

Guys I am so glad to see this thread pop up in Active - you are exactly what I need. I was on a lovely 'waiting to TTC' thread last year, and unfortunately now need one again - I have just been treated for an ectopic pregnancy with methotrexate, so not allowed to TTC until after 20th May. Feels so strange to be going back to using contraception, having been trying since July last year! I have been quite unlucky - I had an early miscarriage in October, and then now the ectopic.

I'm going to have a read back through the thread. I hope to be a source of incredibly sage wisdom 😂 given that I've been doing the BBT/OPK thing for months now. I just started using natural cycles last month and I love it - will be interested to see how it works when preventing pregnancy instead of planning it!! Going to be over cautious until my BBT normalises, but then will be following the NC protocol for not getting pregnant. I'd recommend it for anyone whose wanting to get to know their cycles better before TTC, I wish I'd done it beforehand, it's so empowering to know what's going on in there! I think I can give money off codes so if anyone goes for it, DM me first.

Looking forward to the next few months of getting active again (have gained a good few lbs this week sitting on the sofa eating my feelings), giving blood (I'd forgotten I wouldn't be able to while TTC!) and having a drink a bit more often 🥂

PancakeAndLefty · 27/02/2019 17:28

@deathbycats that does sound tricky! I think over exercising can interfere with periods but maybe if it doesn't settle down with doing a bit less then go as @McHelenz said.

Hi @mussie! Wow it sounds like you've had a difficult few months, definitely make the most of taking some time for yourself. I have been temping for about 2 weeks now but to be honest I'm not sure what I'm looking for 😂 so any advice you have would be very welcome! My temperature is up and down all over the place (within a degree or so), I am testing first thing before getting up so I don't know if that's normal or if maybe I'm doing it wrong?

McHelenz · 27/02/2019 17:46

@pancakeandlefty my temps are up and down too but glow seemed to worked it out when I had a dip and raise!

mussie · 27/02/2019 18:08

@PancakeAndLefty here's my temps for the cycles where I didn't get pregnant - the one in the middle, you can see that the temp rise after ovulation was really weird - right up and then right down and then back up again. That one was confusing. And occasionally, especially right at the beginning of the follicular phase, my temps are higher than coverline, but I've got used to that. So it can be variable day to day, it's just looking for an overall pattern. I find it's not particularly time of day that's important, but amount of sleep - I need to have slept solidly for at least a few hours before I temp. If I wake up at 5 to pee, I do my temp then and use that. My temp goes weird if I'm unwell and if I've been drinking too. Also I don't know if this helps, but I take the temperature the same way every day - the thermometer in the exact same place in my mouth. I think I was a bit willy nilly to start with, but now my temps are much more reliable. The problem with temps is that it takes a few cycles to get to grips with what it should look like! NC is good in that it recognises that your coverline stays the same across the cycles really, whereas FF and others give you a new one every time. It means I know as soon as I see the thermometer reading, exactly where I'm at Smile my temps now are still high, even though I've been bleeding for a few days, so I think it will only be when my hCG drops to near 0 that it'll go down again. Could be a while Confused

PancakeAndLefty · 27/02/2019 18:16

@mussie thank you! Hopefully all will be one clear once I've been going a bit longer. I'm glad it's nit meant to be exactly the same every day with just one spike at ovulation time as that's kind of what I had in my head so I was wondering wtf was happening!

mussie · 28/02/2019 08:45

@PancakeAndLefty no problem! Variation across a whole degree sounds like a lot, but maybe that's just what your temperatures do! There's definitely meant to be variation, but from what NC says, it's maybe not meant to vary more than about +/- 0.2 Celsius from a baseline. I've attached mine (can you tell I pure love the stats)

McHelenz · 28/02/2019 09:07

I am using 4 apps Fertility friend, glow, Flo and ovia. I had only been using ovia previously but might stop just because I have to convert the temps into farenheit

deathbycats · 28/02/2019 10:36

I've only been using Ovia McHelenz. How do you find the others? I used Glow too when I was TTC last time around but I seem to remember it being less accurate.

McHelenz · 28/02/2019 11:13

I quite like Glow at the minute but in going to keep at them all for a month to see what happens. I was lucky to get a positive OPK on a digital so it all went pretty smoothly.

I think I'm pretty lucky I have a regular 28 day cycle and have been off contraception for 3 years. I have been struggling with anxiety and since a bereavement but am currently working through that. It's completely put me off sex so in working on that too, as it's quite important 😂

mussie · 28/02/2019 12:23

I use Glow as well. It's not the most accurate, but I still quite like it. I got the premium version on a whim so now I have to stick with it to get my money's worth 😂 Used to use Ovia and Flo too, but stopped after a few months. Flo's predictions were off. Ovia's weren't bad, but it was just a lot of apps to keep going with! I think the Countdown to Pregnancy website is really helpful, I wish they had an app. Once you've ovulated, you can put in your symptoms and it tells you, based on your symptoms, whether you are more or less likely to be pregnant. There's obvious ones, like sore boobs = more likely, spotting = less likely, but it has lots of obscure ones too. So I'll probably start using that again come May! can get very addictive!

Sorry to hear about your bereavement @McHelenz. Hope you can feel better soon. I know, you can't 'not be in the mood' when TTC 😂 but at least you have a bit of time to work on your own wellbeing before you start TTC 💐

Yorkshiredolls · 28/02/2019 17:46

Hi everybody! excitedly joining this thread, me and DH started discussing ttc baby number 2 several months ago. Starting in May to aim for a January onwards birth, I couldn’t cope with a birthday in november and December due to many family birthdays! It’s taken a long time for us to feel ready to try again as DD was a very hard-work baby!she is 2.5 now and a delightful toddler so looking like an almost 4 year age gap. time is moving very slowly though, All I can think about at the moment is babies babies babies 😂 x

Newhere555 · 01/03/2019 16:10

Hi Ladies,
Excited to join this thread. Planning to start TTC in June, Started tracking my cycles in September last year. And now on second cycle of recording BBT. Feel like I’ve got a good idea of my ovulation window now. I had never realised until September how small the monthly window actually is to conceive each month.
