A place for all those trying for their first who didn't know their OPKs from their BBTs, their EWCM from their FRERs and everything in between before discovering Mumsnet!

If you're that glorious mix between excited about getting that elusive BFP and terrified - this is the place for you Smile

Ha ha mojitos - I've felt the same about a summer baby! I absolutely hate summer and being pregnant would make me even grumpier than usual, but I'll put up with it if I have to! What CD are you on?

orlstar · 28/08/2016 10:33

Mojitos - I know what you mean, I just want AF to make an appearance to I can get on with a positive September. I'm planning a dry month now all the weddings and holidays are out of the way.

I didn't want a summer baby that would be the youngest in the school year.

19Laura88 · 28/08/2016 10:48

Well no AF yet for me, I am expecting it sort of between yesterday and Tuesday as my cycle varies, I can't decide whether to keep waiting or POAS I'm very impatient but not sure what to do for the best!

19Laura88 · 28/08/2016 13:45

Well I caved and did a test BFN. If AF doesn't arrive by Tuesday I'll do it again but I'm not holding out much hope...roll on September try again 😏 Good luck everyone

MoonlightMojitos · 28/08/2016 14:14

There's nothing wrong with summer babies I just really didn't one for a few reasons... first like pj I'm a real winter lover lol I don't like summer and think I'd struggle being big and uncomfortable in the heat. Also, I used your work in a nursery years ago and thought the majority of july/Aug little ones were not quite ready for school yet compared to the ones who were almost a year older (I know there's no way to fix that as the cut off needs to be somewhere). Also... (I've had a lot of time to think about all this lol) I am worried about money when I go on maternity leave as only get smp and it's taxable... so if I went on leave I'd see the full £140 ish whatever it is but once I've earned over the threshold (about £11000?) You get taxed on it so would only actually get about £100 of it which is a big difference. So I was really hoping to be able to go on maternity leave as early in the tax year as possible!

Sorry for essay answer lol.

pj I'm on cd 18/4pdo :) where are you now?

Sorry for bfn laura fx just too early.

lalaland1985 · 28/08/2016 14:19

Makes sense Moon. Im in Scotland so the youngest in the school year are born Jan/Feb.

Pyjamas81 · 28/08/2016 15:51

Oooooo getting close to testing mojitos! I'm on CD20/9 or 10 dpo. AF due on 31st (if luteal phase is the same which it roughly has been regardless of my mental cycles) but am going to hold out until the 2nd Sept to test.

Just went for a cycle around Richmond Park with DH - red leaves everywhere - Autumn is coming, I love it!!! Grin

Hi ladies! This is our first time trying for a baby and first month trying too. I'm 30 so not holding out much hope for the first few months. But it's fun to try! I took a few ovulation tests but don't think they're positive yet. What do you think? Last 3 days in order. I'm feeling like I'm going to be at that stage in my cycle soon though so we gave it a shot. Keen to get started! Lol. Wishing all you ladies good luck!

Notyetthere · 28/08/2016 23:42

Hey ladies, may I join?

32 years old
Cycle 2 CD16

I came off cerazzete end of May after taking it for 10 years. I did not know my cycles at all so I disregarded the first AF and started tracking my cycles after that. 1st cycle was 30 days and last one was 29 days. I am only using opks as a guide from cd8.

I usually use ic opks after work in the evening at about 7pm but yesterday at about 1pm I got a sharp pain on my side which I assumed was something to do with ovulation so I tested and it was the most positive darkest line I have seen since. Not even did it get that dark last cycle. Anyway, as you can imagine, DH and I were dtd 2hours later. Today the opk results very negative, not even a sniff of the test line so as fast as the surge came, it went away just as quickly. Don't know what that means though. Going to continue dtd everyday till Tuesday and hopefully all bases will be covered.

I will continue to opk till next AF; I see it as research trying to understand my body where for every successive cycle I know more about my cycles and their weird intricacies.

Fx for lots of bfp this month

Eva30 · 29/08/2016 08:30

Hi notyetthere did you manage to get any DTD in before the +OPK? It's crazy how fast the dark lines disappear, talk about making it hard for us!
Hi belle yes I'd say they are, looks good.
moon you've thought about everything! I haven't even considered what time of year baby I'd prefer lol.

The strangest thing has happened - I've been putting my temps in ff as usual and today it's saying ov was detected 3 days ago??? Because my temps have gone up?? What the heck, I wasn't expecting ov until around cd15 (so far it's been cd15 twice and cd17 once). This is really early ov for me. Do you think I should keep doing opks in case this is wrong? Thankfully I had some DTD in back then but nowhere near as much as I'd like!

Eva30 · 29/08/2016 08:31

My chart

First time TTC - thread 3
Pyjamas81 · 29/08/2016 08:49

How strange Eva! And it's done it before you hit peak on OPK. Mine did something similar (see my chart). I've carried on doing opks and haven't had another positive result so am assuming I ovulated way earlier this time. I don't trust the FF chart though so I'm assuming I ovulated the day after I got my peak!

They're looking good belle but I don't think they're quite positive yet as the line has to be as dark as the control line or darker - reckon you'll get it v soon though! Unless I'm reading the tests wrong and the result window is the other way around - in which case that's mega positive!

Thanks pjs, that's what I think I'll do too, keep DTD every other day til at least cd20 and doing opks to see if I get a positive.
So frustrating, I haven't had two cycles the same yet!

MoonlightMojitos · 29/08/2016 09:11

Ooh pj that sounds nice! We've had a good month of nice weather around here now so I'm so ready for the return of boots, and big jumpers and breath showing in the fresh air. Those crisp, clear cool mornings are my fave! Fx for a BFP for you! I have a party to go to on the 2nd so wish I could test then to know about drinking but it'll be far too early maybe I'll buy a cheap one anyway rather than poa5er

notyetthere that sounds good, fx you caught it and you will be covered if you keep dtd for a few days after. Fx for you.

eva yes I'd say I'm a planner! when we first decided to ttc I researched everything and read a few books and thought about everything there is to think about lol. I've had a good 6 months of thinking now though and just want it to actually happen! Fx for you the chart is slightly off and I agree best to keep testing just in case!

Piehunter · 29/08/2016 11:05

Not yet there your fertile window starts about 4 days before you get a peak opk so it's well worth starting to dtd more often from cd7/10 so you don't miss those days before :) ovulation normally happens in the 24 hours after a peak opk and the egg doesn't last more than 24 hours after that, so you've got lots more opportunity before +OPK than after.

I'm cd6, bleeding gone and can get back on the horse husband Grin!

Pyjamas81 · 29/08/2016 12:39

That's exactly what I love about Autumn/Winter mojitos! Thanks for the Fx Smile - I've been so badly behaved with the booze in my 2WW, I don't think I deserve a BFP! Having a bit of a detox now as I think wine has replaced the blood running through my veins Blush. I've even meal planned this week for healthy meals and have done online shop!

I'll be slightly on edge over the next couple of days as AF is due on Weds according to FF - gah. Testing on Friday if nothing happens - which is good as am working from home! It'll be the start of the month as well, so if I get a BFP, I'll just say I'm doing dry September (which I may do anyway after this month's overindulgence)!

Unpredictable cycles are the worst eva - bad enough having to plan life around TTC, batshit cycles make it even more tedious!

MoonlightMojitos · 29/08/2016 12:56

I wonder if when you're born has anything to do with it, when's your birthday pj? I'm a winter baby myself (december).

It would be nice to get upduffed soon and then announce it over Christmas... got some creative ideas for that! On the other hand could be very difficult avoiding suspicion with not drinking over Christmas if its early days. God I hope it happens soon!

I wouldn't worry too much about the booze in 2ww pj. Same as you though I'm going uber healthy next cycle if havnt caught this one. I've been so lazy lately. I love online shopping! Stops me buying extra things on the way round

When I got my BFP I stopped going to the gym mainly part out of laziness and partly because I told my teachers and they said to take it easy for a few weeks until the fatigue etc settled down and now I've had the mc I've dreaded going back and having to say well I'm no longer pregnant... thinking I might send an email so don't have to tell them face to face.

piehunter lucky you with a horse 😂

florafoxtrot · 29/08/2016 13:15

I'm the opposite and would much prefer a summer baby - although I'm in Scotland so we've not really a big problem with temperatures etc. Just think it would be nice to get out and about with a pram etc. There is a large probability that I've created a completely false fantasy in my head of what motherhood might entail!
I'm in my fertile week now - can't decide whether to up dtd to every night rather than every second night - thinking that I'm up for it now but by Thursday I might be flagging a bit... Hmm.
I've had some EWCM this morning too - based on that can I be quite confident that I do O (whenever it might happen!) or does it not work like that?

Pyjamas81 · 29/08/2016 13:54

Hmm you may have a point there mojitos! I was born in March - so still pretty nippy outside Smile I'm right there with you on the laziness - in the run up to my wedding I was going to the gym 3/4 times a week, meal planning, cut down on booze, drank 2 litres of water a day, cut out caffeine, the lot! 4 months later and I feel like a great big bloater even though DH assures me I'm not. We can be uber healthy for our next cycle together if we don't get our BFPs this time around!

Flora - ewcm is definitely a good sign! I never get anything other than some creamy (gah - that word makes me want to vom)

OP posts:
Belle104 · 29/08/2016 18:37

I've ran out of ovulation tests and I've bought some more on Amazon because they're cheaper, so I cant continue to test this month.

Yesterday I was in a lot of pain, cramps etc. How long after that do you think I'd still be fertile. Like tonight?? We didn't bd last night because my husband was shattered (I was too to be fair!) cramps are still there a bit today along with bloating. Could I still have a chance??

Belle104 · 29/08/2016 18:39

Sorry to hear about your mc mojitos :-(

Monkeyandthebear · 29/08/2016 19:03

I have had 3 days of flashing smiley face now and my parents are still staying with us! Meant the moment they left the house at lunchtime to go out for the afternoon we set about dtd. Glad I am using opks this month as Ovia is way out, maybe should have done this a while back. Hoping that the static face is in the next day or two and we can get into the dreaded 2ww with our fingers crossed.

Piehunter · 29/08/2016 19:03

I'm just anti-rain, less bothered about the temperature! It's just so bleurgh, I don't appreciate being spat on from the sky!
I also use a wheelchair out the house and it's such a pain when it's wet, my hands and up my arms get soaked and muddy.. It's conducive to me hibernating. If the UK had less rain in summer I'd probably be more summery but seeing as it doesn't matter what season is it in terms of pissing it down.. Summer clothing more fun too, winter clothing pointlessly hidden under a coat!

pj's excited for you, your cycle gets interesting when mine is boring Grin

Pyjamas81 · 29/08/2016 19:20

Ah you see piehunter, I hate summer clothes and love winter clothes! Can't wait to crack out my lovely scarves and get a nice new pair of boots Smile

I have absolutely not one scooby what my cycle will do this time!

MrsCW86 · 29/08/2016 22:40

Monkey that's made me giggle - reminds me of that episode of Friends where Monica and Chandler dtd in a broom cupboard at the hospital because they're ttc!

I'm on cd12 now, not 100% sure when I ov as don't temp or do opks (yet!) so just trying to dtd at least every other day... My DH is going to be working away for the next few months so think ignorance might be bliss instead of getting all frustrated if he's away for my fw Sad
