A place for all those trying for their first who didn't know their OPKs from their BBTs, their EWCM from their FRERs and everything in between before discovering Mumsnet!

If you're that glorious mix between excited about getting that elusive BFP and terrified - this is the place for you Smile

Hey, I don't know if this is the right place, so tell me to clear off if not. I'm 27, my husband is 25. We recently started ttc only this month, but my af arrived this morning. I know all the stats on getting pregnant first cycle and everything, and that it's normal if you don't, but I was totally unprepared for how devastated I feel knowing I've got to go through another cycle and possibly more. The last month has been hard for me. I'm being stupid, I know, but I'm really struggling. Has anyone else felt like this? Sorry everyone xx

CinnamonTwist · 25/08/2016 12:59

kate I am taking the pregnacare currently, before that I took centrum

CinnamonTwist · 25/08/2016 13:01

Welcome Alice you're definitely in the right place, we are just trying to work things out together as we go! You have something like a 25% chance of conceiving each cycle, which was a surprise to me - I think we spend so long desperately trying not to get pregnant that when it doesn't happen straight away it's a shock

WarwickAlice · 25/08/2016 13:13

Thank you for replying so quickly cinnamon. I think you're right; I always thought I'd get pregnant easily because I'm young, healthy, etc. My sister in law is due next month with her second, and both times she conceived first cycle. So did my friend, so I just thought I would too. I feel terrible, I went home from work because I thought I was going to cry when af hit. I'm being stupid :(

florafoxtrot · 25/08/2016 13:29

Can I jump on this thread too?

Age - 30
TTC - #1
CD - 10
Cycle - 2

After a cycle with a ridiculously delayed - and completely unusual period we are taking a more relaxed approach this month and trying to dtd every second day without worrying too much about CDs or ovulation. Hopefully it'll work but if not I'm not currently feeling too obsessive about it all.
Looking forward to some chat with ladies in the same position.

Difficultyear2015 · 25/08/2016 13:35

flora how long was your cycle 1?

We are dtd every other day. Havent started tracking ov yet, but bit of a hypochondriac and on and off spotting not helping that !

florafoxtrot · 25/08/2016 13:47

37 days! Doesn't seem that long when you put down like that but I'd been 26-31 days for 3 years beforehand. Entirely sure that I just had first month TTC stress and did it to myself.

I'm not sure about tracking ov to be honest, think I'm too early in the process for that - particularly in context of what I did to myself last month!

Quite enjoying the eod presently!

physicskate · 25/08/2016 13:51

Alice I felt the same way. I'm now cycle 5. I'm actually a bit worried about having joined this thread as at least 25% of you probably won't be here long! I'm at the stage where 60% or people who started ttc when I did have got up duffed and I'm a bit jaded...

Sorry to bring negativity to the thread!

florafoxtrot · 25/08/2016 14:04

I wouldn't say its negativity Kate - more like realism! I'm not under any illusions that this will happen quickly and will be pleasantly surprised if it does. Read somewhere that being as pessimistic as possible when TTC is perhaps a good approach!

WarwickAlice · 25/08/2016 14:12

kate don't worry about the negativity, I started it lol. I've just realised how soul destroying it can be so we are in the same boat.
I will be here for at least another month xxx

Brightsmoke · 25/08/2016 16:55

Thanks :) roughly 8 DPO

Total suprise as I was thought AF was coming!!

Pyjamas81 · 25/08/2016 17:26

My my this is a lively thread and a BFP already whoop whoop!! Congrats bright!!

Kate - I use the pregnacare conception supplements but I'm thinking of ditching that and just using folic acid. Nothing that turns my wee that colour can be good for me lol. And I've heard it affects cycles and mine are all over the damn place. If I don't get a BFP this cycle, I'll start evening primrose oil next cycle to improve ewcm as there's currently tumbleweed down there.

Difficult - funny you mention the weight gain after coming off pill, I thought that was just me!

Alice - my first bfn last month really upset me as well, so you're not alone! I'm much more in a 'what will be will be' space this month. Obviously POAS and temping like a madwoman, but have much lower expectations than last month.

Going out for a drink with my best friend tonight - keeping things normal is definitely helping me stay sane!

pj I've just resorted to ordering skinny tea! I know it's meant to be bad but il try anything to ease the bloating.

Russkispy · 25/08/2016 18:22

If anyone is interested, I found a link someone might find useful....

babybumpapp.com/community/groups/90/posts/2377456-must-read-natural-fertility-vitamins

Decaf green tea - 4 cups a day! Never had decaf in my life but now addicted to it, and to decaf latte!

WarwickAlice · 25/08/2016 18:30

thank you, pyjamas, it's comforting to hear I'm not alone. How did you get through it? I can't stop crying and just feel completely devastated. I may call in sick tomorrow because can't face it xx

Eva30 · 25/08/2016 19:03

russ that article says don't drink any types of tea because they contain tannins, and then says drink lots of decaf green tea?!?! I'm confused, I drink it now but maybe I shouldn't?!
warwickalice sorry about AF. But it's only cycle one, don't get stressed! You're doing yourself no good and it's not good for TTC. Try to think of it as a fresh start to cycle 2.
kate I know what you mean, I'm on cycle 5 now and have been posting on the forums for a while and have seen lots of people getting their BFPs and move on to the pregnancy forums. However, I read today that a study of women found 86% were pregnant after 1 year (under 35s, think it was about 80% under 40s) and 92% within 2 years. So some will take longer than others.

Come on ladies - let's think positively. Our BFPs will come, we just need to be patient (not my strong point either)Grin

Difficultyear2015 · 25/08/2016 19:10

Excellent positivity ☺️

Difficultyear2015 · 25/08/2016 19:10

I think my AF is starting!! So hopefully this is a 41 day cycle and CD1 tomorrow

Piehunter · 25/08/2016 19:22

I also put weight on coming off the pill, how odd!

difficult yay for af if it means the end of a long cycle!

I'm really struggling off the pill, I went on it and stayed on it for 9 years (well, had the depo injection for 3 of those) because I had terrible periods, and seems I still do 🙁 really heavy (I'm on blood thinners too which doesn't help) and very painful, because of my meds I can't take anti inflammatories and even strong painkillers don't help like ibuprofen does... Hot water bottles help but not hugely practical and I'm just so uncomfortable. Wah. /Self-indulgent whinge.

physicskate · 25/08/2016 19:25

Agnus Castus is good for heavy periods apparently, but only take it before ov when ttc!

Russkispy · 25/08/2016 19:55

I know it's confusing indeed. Switched to decaf anyway. I'm doing some much for TTC, it's unreal! And when (note it's when and not if!) I'll never know what actually helped me to get pregnant!
Ladies, stay positive! Even a nurse at the smear test told me one get pregnant within 12 months of constant trying and that's regarding of age. And the acupuncturist said the same. But I don't really have 12 months as I want to get pregnant before 41. So after 6th cycle I'd be triggering off my plan B etc

MoonlightMojitos · 25/08/2016 20:15

Wow, lots of newbies! Welcome! And congrats for the BFP already!

I've also put on weight since stopping the pill but I also quit smoking the day I stopped so I put it down to that but maybe it's a bit of both then? I've always been one of those lucky people who can pretty much eat what I want and stay slim but now it's slowly creeping on and I've gone up a dress size since April when I stopped!

difficult fx for af for you tomorrow (in a good way!) So you know what's going on in there.

Cd15 for me and I've decided I've ovd so in to the tww for me with expected af 8th September.

Eva30 · 25/08/2016 20:27

Oh my, me too!! I had to get all new (bigger size) uniforms for work!Blush
difficult that's such good news finally!
