A place for all those trying for their first who didn't know their OPKs from their BBTs, their EWCM from their FRERs and everything in between before discovering Mumsnet!

If you're that glorious mix between excited about getting that elusive BFP and terrified - this is the place for you Smile

Thank you for the welcome! I joined lots of threads in December when I came off the pill then gave up because my periods were so out of sync! Feel like this is all new to me again. I've found the clearblue kit really helpful... Although I get flashing smiley faces for a week when most people only get two days! They are very expensive though so I hope I don't need to use them too long. I'm trying hard to lengthen my luetel phase this month with B6, bananas, houmous, the lot! Does anyone else have a short luetel phase?

Monkeyandthebear · 10/10/2016 18:53

Busy It sucks being in limbo doesn't it! If there is ewcm I would be dtd if you are feeling up to it.

I don't know where I am at on my cycle either. I am on day 20 and I think this is a normal cycle for me after 2 long ones.

I am struggling a little as I have convinced myself that I am pregnant. Sore boobs, metallic taste and tiredness have led my mind to go crazy and work over time. Feel I am in for a real disappointment this cycle. Sad

Pyjamas81 · 10/10/2016 18:57

Welcome Alice Smile

Sorry to hear about bfn Eva - but if you're due on Fri, it's still early!

And sorry to hear about your aunt mouse Flowers

Well after getting another flashing smiley face this morning (day 6 of flashing), I got a strong positive on a cheapie went I got home from work just now and a static smiley to double check! Pic below SmileI'm on CD11 so it's roughly the same time as I got a positive the first time last month - really really hoping the same thing doesn't happen again where I rev up for ovulation twice!!

We dtd last night, so that'll be four days in a row then - arrrrgghhh ShockConfused

Thank you for your advice Mouse, MrsG and Busynothings.

Definitely taking it all on board and fingers crossed for my first cycle FW Grin

Good luck pyjamas. I will hopefully be ov in a few days so hopefully we can be testing buddies in a few weeks!

Busynothings I am new to all this but your symptoms alone would have me reaching for the first response... maybe you could try one to satisfy your curiousity.

alice87m · 10/10/2016 19:26

Congrats on your smiley face Pyjamas81... It's such a relief when it finally arrives isn't it! Four days in a row is great, sounds like you've done everything you can! I'm gutted we couldn't dtd the day my smiley face showed up as I was feeling so ill. Feel like this month was wasted now!

BusyNothings · 10/10/2016 19:28

Not to worry alice as most people on here will attest to the flashing smiley bastard sticks around as long as he can!

Ugh dtd does not sound good right now. I suppose I could lie back and think of England! Lol

What have you done to track this month monkey?

Yay pj glad the static smiley turned up, serious stamina though 4 days in a row.

Seriously considering a frer but don't want to waste them. Might try and get some dtd in. Use some more cheapie opks see what happens. See where I am next week that will be cd29

Monkeyandthebear · 10/10/2016 19:44

Busy I had a minor meltdown when AF arrived this month so I decided as we had a week off work after AF leading to Fw not to track anything. No Opks as I was just too gutted. Ewcm makes me think I ov'd around cd15.

Pyjamas81 · 10/10/2016 20:29

Oh no I meant we'll have to dtd 4 days in a row starting from yesterday! Ha ha. We're going
To be so over it by Wednesday! Wouldn't have dtd yesterday if I'd known our 3 day marathon would start today Confused

Did you get a static smiley Alice?

MoonlightMojitos · 10/10/2016 20:38

Hey ladies. I'm on holiday at the moment (UK break) and was meant to be having a tech free chill out but couldn't resist a quick catch up.

busy after my mc in July my cycles went a bit wild. They were around 29 days before but then I had a 26 day one, then a 23 day one so maybe things are just still settling down for you hun. I know that doesn't really help but it definately all gets a bit confused afterwards so I hope you figure out what's going on in there soon. Defo get to it though with ewcm if you're feeling better.

pj yay for smiley! I know you've had a few days of flashy but that's good that ov is so early again!

BRB... need to catch up on the last page too and can't skip pages without losing my post!

MoonlightMojitos · 10/10/2016 20:44

Welcome Heather and Alice!

eva don't count yourself out yet! Fx for you.

blissful fx you manage to get some dtd in. It must be hard doing different regular night shifts. My dp works nights sometimes too and it is difficult.

mouse sorry about your aunt :(

alice87m · 10/10/2016 20:51

I had a static smiley on Friday... After seven days of flashing ones! Exactly the same as last month so at least I'm becoming regular. Just concerned that I seem to be ov on day 24/25 but then having a period 7-10 days later. Just doesn't seem to be long enough from what I've been reading 🙁

Seahawk80 · 10/10/2016 20:53

Welcome newbies!

So sorry to hear about your Aunt and work mouse

pjs get going on that static! I just told DH we need to dtd every day this week as I want to do everything we can!
Busy my cycles are all over the place so just trying to DTD every other day and as much as we can when I think I'm fertile.

Eva don't worry about moaning - I feel exactly the same at the moment. Your post could have been written by me! Work is crap, TTC is crap. I have no more holidays to look forward to! I can't remember if I said this but I'm basically stuck in my job as when we do have a baby it will be a decent part time job with an easy commute which is hard to find in London, but at the moment I'm so fed up and bored and feel like my life is on hold. Sad

Seahawk80 · 10/10/2016 20:54

Oh and sorry about the BFN Eva Flowers hopefully just too early

MrsG280516 · 10/10/2016 21:23

Sorry about your job Seahawk I'm the same with mine, I work for a great company who are so flexible so will be great for when we have a baby, it's just not that challenging and very boring for me at the moment. I was signed up with a recruitment agency who wanted to put me forward for new opportunities but from last month I said I'm just going to stay where I am. The things we do eh?

Seahawk80 · 10/10/2016 21:37

Thanks MrsG I wouldn't say mine is a great company - it will be a well paid part time job though. I'm focusing on DIY at the moment and channelling my frustrations into getting our flat finished. I've been feeling a bit down so trying to get myself motivated with some projects!

MouseLove · 10/10/2016 22:22

Thank you everyone. If I'm honest I'm not sure it will be real until i see my family at the funeral... not looking forward to that one.

I have an uncomfortable belly this evening... and I can't tell if its wind, too many biscuits, or that I'm feeling ever more anxious for AF to arrive on Friday. It will be my first proper one in over 12 years and I feel like I'm stepping into the unknown!!

bassetmum · 11/10/2016 07:22

Fx for you mouse that it will be like mine was. It was nowhere near as bad as I had envisioned it being.

I haven't got any signs of ovulation yet. Will just stick to the dtd every other day

MrsG280516 · 11/10/2016 10:12

Morning everyone, how are we doing? My withdrawal bleed is nearly over now so time to get on with DTD. I wonder if I'll ovulate at a normal time or earlier/later with coming off the pill?

bassetmum · 11/10/2016 10:49

MrsG my first cycle post pill I had all the symptoms of ovulation from day 11 to 15 and I had my first period on day 28/29. I do think I am one of the lucky ones who appears to have gone back to a regular cycle immediately.

Eva30 · 11/10/2016 10:59

Thanks - we'll see what happens now with AF due Fri. Cd26 and haven't had any cramps and only bloated a bit yesterday but think that was due to the two takeaways I had over the weekendBlush but I did join the gym last week and have been every morning so maybe it's down to the exercise doing me some good.

mrsG everyone is different, mine went straight back to normal after being on the pill for 10years which I was amazed by.

pjs great re static and yes fingers crossed no double gearing up! Maybe do cheapie opks for a few days after just to check?

seahawk sending you a hugFlowers I'm also doing up our "project house" at the moment too but I go through waves of feeling motivated to do it and when I can't be bothered! It's just all been plastered so we have the patchy pink wall look going on at the minute! Same with the job but like skee said maybe applying for something else will work to take my mind off TTC so I'm keeping an eye out now.

Heatherbaby · 11/10/2016 11:15

Hi everyone

It's nice to know I'm not alone with worries about work vs family life. I could really do with working on my career goals for at least another 18 months but don't think I should put off TTC any longer... don't want any regrets in the future!

Good to know about some of the symptoms I should look out for my reading all your stories!

An issue for me at the moment... dtd enough! Until I thought about TTC I never really thought about how little we do it. Up to x4 a week on a v good week but 0 or x1 on others... starting to think if DH and me have problems! I know we need to DTD as much as possible in the next week but I feel horribly moody at the moment Confused

MrsG280516 · 11/10/2016 11:39

Hi Heather I'd try not to worry about it too much, if you put pressure on yourself then you might just make it worse. DH is lucky if we manage 2x a week normally, he works 2 day shifts then 2 night shifts so sometimes we might go 4-7 days depending on our moods. We will be trying to DTD every other day between AF and FW then as much as possible around ovulation.

I think the good thing about charting your cycle is that you'll know when you can hold off and when to go for it haha.

bassetmum · 11/10/2016 11:42

Ive put my career on hold at the moment. I currently work for the civil service so the maternity pay is fantastic (6 months full pay) but the actual salary I earn hasn't changed in years. I did go through a stage last year applying for jobs but then my dads health deteriorated so I put it on hold.

Heather I had absolutely no libido on the pill (plus all the stress from dads cancer battle) so we would have been lucky if we did it once a month. Really bad I know I am glad my OH was so understanding about it. Last month, and I think again this month my libido is going through the roof during my fertile week, so my OH doesn't know what has hit him haha. Noticed some sticky cm so I think I am gearing up of ovulation at the weekend as per a 28day cycle.

Pyjamas81 · 11/10/2016 12:47

Did another cheapie test this morning and still a super strong positive. I thought the surge only lasted a couple of hours, so who knows what's going on!

We're the same re dtd heather - neither of us has a huge libido (both happy with once a week), so four days in a row for us is going to be challenging! I'm moody this month as well and just hate everything. I'm lucky in that I've got to a place in my career/salary where it's ok to take a break to have a family, but I am so over my job! I we weren't TTC, I would probably look elsewhere. But, we have a really good maternity policy/pension scheme etc and when we do have a baby, I'll value the stability of this job.

Good to hear you can start focusing on proper cycles now MrsG - I came off pill in May and my cycles are still a bit batshit, but everyone is different.
