A place for all those trying for their first who didn't know their OPKs from their BBTs, their EWCM from their FRERs and everything in between before discovering Mumsnet!

If you're that glorious mix between excited about getting that elusive BFP and terrified - this is the place for you Smile

Still flashing for me today mojitos -which is a good thing as me and DH are getting on each other's last nerve today. He's gone to watch the rugby, which is good! Doesn't look like dtd will happen today - literally the last thing I want to do!
Yep - taking epo and nothing yet. Am on CD 9 so am not stressing too much.

I have 2 day AFs seahawk and Lisa - and of course I worry about that too!

mojitos was going to test on Monday (I'm 8dpo today) but my temp went down again today so I'm feeling deflated and will probably just save my frer's.
Going out for a couple of drinks tonight to forget about itSmileWine

Skee · 08/10/2016 17:38

Thanks again everyone - getting over the surprise and trying not to get too excited yet!

Thanks mojitos, I'll head over! x

MouseLove · 08/10/2016 19:59

Basset, did you come off birth control??? Just tell DH you are super horny off the BC GrinGrinGrin

bassetmum · 09/10/2016 13:16

Haha yes this is my second cycle post pill and to be fair I do have a higher libido now

Dixiechick1991 · 09/10/2016 13:39

Hello all,
I'm on cycle 2 and currently 7dpo. AF isn't due for another week. Been having a few sharp pains in my lower left tummy and whilst DTD felt it a bit more (sorry TMI!) also had the tiniest tiniest bit of spotting 2 days ago.
Anyone experience this? X

Eva30 · 09/10/2016 13:44

dixie sound positive - they say implantation bleeding happens between 6-10dpo but very possible on 5dpoSmile

BusyNothings · 09/10/2016 14:06

Hi ladies, sorry ive been a bit lax recently im still a bit of a mess with this bloody chest infection so struggling quite a bit to figure out whats going on let alone keeping up with you speedy gals!

skee congrats thats definitely sods law! sorry about the job but wish you all the best going forward!

dixie i've had that a few times watch out if it carries on for more than a few days as last time i had it it was due to a bladder infection.

we still arent managing to dtd with me being ill and im on CD21 so pretty certain thats another cycle wasted =/

Dixiechick1991 · 09/10/2016 14:33

busy thanks, I've had a few water infections in the past, the last one led to a kidney infection but this doesn't feel the same but I'll keep an eye on it.
My app says its 7 days until AF is due so I'll just have to wait till then to see!

Skee · 09/10/2016 15:26

Thanks Busy - hope you're feeling better soon! Flowers

Blissfulignorance · 09/10/2016 17:59

Sticking my head in between my nights, not sure what day it is now?!

Congrats skee! I'll find out if I have a new job on Monday, fx crossed for some Sod's law over here.

I'm cd 12 and have ewcm but haven't seen hubby in 4 days because of my night shift. Super annoying.

Fx crossed to everyone!

Skee · 09/10/2016 20:25

Happily share some Sod's law Bliss Grin

Heatherbaby · 09/10/2016 21:43

Hi everyone

I've been lurking on these boards for the past week and would love to join?

I'm 29 and it's my first time TTC and first cycle. I throw myself in to research with everything I do and tend to overthink everything.

I'm quite nervous about TTC as reading the threads it's becoming clear it's not just as simple as DTD!

I'm on CD8 and have been tracking my cycle for over a year on a basic app called mycalendar. The app predicts my FW is 13-19 Oct.

Took an OPK for fun and it's only the faintest of lines at the moment. Excited to get started!

Congrats to everyone who has had an BFP on this thread- it's been exciting reading your updates x

Heatherbaby · 09/10/2016 21:46

Ps. Can anybody recommend any other threads to join if any? Also any other recommended TTC forums? Does this one have an app? Thanks all and best of luck for your next FW

MouseLove · 10/10/2016 00:19

Welcome heather!! The weekends are always a bit quiet around here. But here's a few posts I frequent...

This one!!
TTC#1 just keep swimming
October Bus
& post pill

I've only joined Mumsnet and no others although I did think about maybe seeing if there's any specialists groups re. Post pill TTC as that's where my background is.

Welcome to the gang! You should defo DTD lots during your fertile week!!

alice87m · 10/10/2016 07:40

Hi everyone I hope you don't mind me jumping on your feed! I need to talk ttc to someone other than my poor husband! We are trying fof our first... I came off the pill I'm December and my cycles were crazy up until a few months ago. Once they calmed down I bought the clear blue ovulation kit and I seem to have ovulated around day 25 for the last couple of months. We put off trying properly until this month as I recently started a new job. I'm on day 27 now and have everything crossed. Dtd every other day during fertile window but missed the first day I had a static smiley face (day 24) as I was ill and now feel annoyed that we've reduced our chances! I also realised the past few months that I have a short luetel phase (around 7-10 days) so I've been taking agnus castus and vitamin b6 this cycle. Anyway good luck everyone and please feel free to offer me any tips and advice!

MouseLove · 10/10/2016 08:35

Hi Alice.
Welcome!!
The best time to conceive is apparently the few days leading up to ovulating and the actual day you ovulate. It takes a while for sperm to get that far and for your egg to get into the correct place but don't worry, sperm can swim about for up to 5 days. Good luck!!

MrsG280516 · 10/10/2016 09:33

Happy Monday everyone... fresh new week! How are we all getting on? I would have been starting a new pack of pills on Wednesday so that's D-day for me! Finding temping so interesting.

MouseLove · 10/10/2016 10:22

MrsG how have your temps been? I had 2 low days and then my temp shot up and has stayed up. Finally got my cross hair on my chart lol

My aunty lost her fight with cancer yesterday. I'm ok, parents are obviously upset but I had an ok weekend otherwise. Keeping friends close to keep me busy.

I've been ok. But my job as a designer means I sometimes have to work on baby and pregnancy things. Today is one of those days. So I'm staring at articles to do with bumps and babygrows.

MrsG280516 · 10/10/2016 10:30

They've been a bit all over really but I only have 4 days logged so far. Had a big jump on Saturday morning which was odd but FF seems to have discounted that one as by Sunday it had come back down. I did have a glass of wine close to bedtime so that could have affected it.

So sorry to hear about your aunty, its an awful thing to go through. Keeping busy is the best thing.

I spent a few hours with my best friend and her family on Saturday. She has a three year old boy and a one month old girl. Both conceived on first go, the first one was a surprise as she had switched from implant to pill and somehow managed to get pregnant in the week between... Told her we are TTC from this month but if we have any problems then she's unlikely to understand. Her kids made me even more broody though if that is even possible!

Eva30 · 10/10/2016 11:08

Welcome alice
mouse so sorry to hear about your aunt.
I tested this morning, BFN. I'm also having a shit time at work and just feeling so down. Sorry to moan, it's probably just the usual hormones and fed up bleugh feeling before AF! AF due Friday, then it'll be Cycle 7. Looking at the positives I'm going to a spa this weekend so at least I'll be able to enjoy the sauna and jacuzzi.

Heatherbaby · 10/10/2016 11:14

Thanks for the warm welcome Mouse Smile

Wonder if I could pick the brains of you ladies who may have more experience at timing DTD when TTC.

I mentioned my app is yelling me FW is 13 to 19 Oct with ovulation day being on the 18th.

Even though I will try to DTD as much as possible in that time should I be aiming for everyday in the window?

Also the app was fairly accurate in predicting my ov as I'm fairly regular (and checked the apps reliability with a OPK a few months back) but when should I use the OPK to check for a positive judging by the above dates? (they aren't cheap so don't want to waste them like I did yesterday hehe).

Final question... if the opk is positive does that mean the egg is already there waiting or is it before the egg is released. So should I have DTD before or can I then do it after the result. I hope this makes sense, I'm anxious to get started and give myself a good chance.

Mouse I read in this post and others about your upsetting news and hope you're doing OK.

To all the ladies temping... I feel like such a novice I just wouldn't know where to start with that... I can barely POAS Grin

Eva30 · 10/10/2016 11:18

heather welcome, I'd buy cheap opks and do them every day of FW. Opks detect the hormone LH surge, which happens roughly 36hours before ovulation so it's your alert to get DTD Smile

MrsG280516 · 10/10/2016 11:28

Hi heather don't worry, a lot of us are new to this as well so you're not alone!

I think from what I understand, you'll get a positive OPK one or two days before you ovulate. The peak in hormones which the OPK picks up will cause the ovaries to release the egg shortly after. So in your fertile week, just try to DTD as much as possible to make sure you've got some swimmers hanging around when the egg does get released.

I bought cheap OPKs from eBay which are just little strips, they were about £3 for 30 so I won't mind wasting them haha. I'm only on CD3 but going to use them from about CD10 to see if I get a positive this month as its my first month off the pill.

Temping is actually really easy, you just have to use an accurate thermometer and take your temp at the same time each morning before getting out of bed. A rise in temperature mid cycle is usually proof that you've ovulated so can be useful with or without OPKs.

BusyNothings · 10/10/2016 17:45

Well put mrsg I would also add try and use a good rated app like ovia or fertility friend they can see your patterns and predict really accurately. You can also put in other signs like your feelings etc and it looks for patterns.

Sorry to hear about your aunt mouse Flowers

I need help ladies I think I'm losing the plot. I'm on cd22 and because of the mc and only having had 2 full proper months my apps totally confused. In the first proper months I had 29 days with ovulation on cd15 second month was 39 days and ovulation on cd22. We only dtd once this month because of me being ill on cd15 but because I've not tracked anything with being ill I'm really confused. Had huge and I mean huge amounts of ewcm in the last few days and then this morning had this really heavy feeling in my lower abdomen and then light cramps (only when stood up) behind my right hip. Last time I had this was during my early pg days before the mc. Just done a cheapie pg test and a cheapie opk test. Both negative. So I'm completely lost.
