Pink Butterfly
Do you get a clearly darker line on your OPK?

I've never had a confident positive and so, given the cost, - it just feels like a waste of money. (I get several days of just a bit paler than the test line)

KitKat30 · 25/10/2006 14:39

Hi sunshinedays - have you tried the electronic fertility monitor? From what I've read it stores all the information and then calculates hormone readings based on your own body's levels... so you get low, high and peak fertility messages depending on where you are in the cycle. This will be my 1st month using it so dont know if it's worth the £99 price tag!

Sunshine - Last month I got three days of lines paler than the test line then the following two days got two bold lines. Suppose everyone is different though - worked for me.

Sunshinedays - I know what you mean about the two line ones, I prefer the ones that only have one line unless you are OV and then you get the second line. I bought hundreds of those off the Access Diagnostics site and they were dirt cheap. It is a bit of a pain using the strip type instead of the mid-flow type but it does satisfy your need to pee on things and last cycle, I got accurate results using them! Hope that helps!

KitKat - Fertility Monitors - If I don't get my BFP before my birthday I might treat myself to one. I'll watch out for your views on it in the meantime. I have just checked, AF is actually due on my birthday at the end of December - it will be a day of tears either way! That's if I don't get my BFP in the meantime of course!

KitKat30 · 25/10/2006 15:53

Keep thinking positive thoughts MrsMcJ - it's the only way!

Will let you know how I get on with the monitor (I sort of figured that in a few months I would have spent the equivalent on OP sticks, so I thought what the hell!! - a BFP would be worth it! The annoying thing is you have to buy the sticks separately though - but as it gets to know you, you should use fewer sticks every month...in theory

mrspf · 25/10/2006 21:52

Hi all,

Well i am still in my 2ww which is nearly a 3ww now. Keep feeling like AF is on her way, but also hoping she isn't.

I have resisted searching for the test my DH hid to avoid disappointment whilst he's away working. Will defo test Fri morning when he's here.

KitKat30 · 26/10/2006 08:31

Morning girls - found some interesting info that I thought I'd share - you probably know all of this anyway!!

Apparently sperm, once ejaculated, needs between 8-10 hours to "capacitate" and be ready to fertilize an egg. This process only takes place in the woman's body. So technically it's better if the sperm is already there and waiting by the time the egg is released...

And I found this from a BBC Radio 4 programme when I was searching for fertility tips! Zita West seems to be saying that the day you actually ovulate might be too late to conceive, and that you are more likely to have successful conception in the 5 or 6 days leading up to ovulation...which seems to fit in with the above info...

"ZITA WEST: And that's the commonest thing I find - that women will focus on having sex bang on ovulation. The research shows six days prior to ovulation you stand a good chance of conceiving. And it's just going over some of the basic biology - that an egg can last up to 24 hours, sperm can last for five to seven days, so you need as much sperm up there waiting to pounce on that egg when it comes out.

PORTER
So if you wait for your day of ovulation you might be leaving it a bit too late?

ZITA WEST
You might be leaving it too late, absolutely."

Anyway, dont know if it's true or not - but I thought I'd share!!

Good luck mrspf, I shall be logging on tomorrow morning to see how you got on! Babydust and fingers crossed!

KitKat - thanks for sending that link, it was a really interesting article. I didn't know about the sperm needing to capacitate but did know that it is better to have the sperm there to meet the egg rather than VV because the egg does not live for very long.

Did you know that the longer before OV that the sperm is there the more likely you are to have a girl? Apparently, male swimmers are faster but don't last as long and so more female ones survive in the cervix when waiting for the egg!!

My chart is now saying that I did OV on Monday like I was meant to (though temps have been in a much shorter range this cycle) so I am now 3dpo and well into my 2 ww - well 10 day wait for me. If AF does not show up on 3/11, I'll be testing on 4/11. Babydust to me! I hopefully had a good backdated supply of swimmers when OV took place so here's hoping!

KitKat30 · 26/10/2006 09:22

I didnt know that! Sounds about right though - girls are much tougher than boys!

Keeping everything crossed for both of you.

x

ready4motherhood · 26/10/2006 11:44

Thanks for that Kitkat30... that was really interesting.
MrsMcJnr - that is so freaky that you said that about the boy and girl sperm, cos I was going to put that on the November thread (saturday Bd for a girl, and Monday for a boy) but thought it might be a little overfamiliar!! I read that the girls sperms live longer than the boys, but the boy sperms swim quicker.

mrspf · 27/10/2006 07:55

hello all

Well i have just done my test and it was a BFP! It hasn't really sunk in yet.

Already it feels very different to 2 months ago when I was so excited at the BFP as that ended in m/c. I think from what I've read pregnancy will always feel different after a mc.

mrsmcjnr- babydust to you in your 2ww and hope you get your BFP soon. xxx

mrspf · 27/10/2006 07:59

And good luck to anyone else TTC. babydust to all and stay positive.

KitKat30 · 27/10/2006 08:23

Congratulations mrsmpf!!! Here's hoping this continues to be a lucky thread...!

PinkButterfly · 27/10/2006 09:36

Congratulations mrspf!!!! Everything crossed that this little bean hangs on for you. xx

ready4motherhood · 27/10/2006 10:51

MrsMcJnr · 27/10/2006 12:07

Yipee, yipee, yipee! well done mrspf (& Mr! ) Fabulous news and the 2nd BFP on this thread, definatley going to stick around!!! Can you tell us how it's done? Thanks for good vibes for me.

MrsMcJnr · 27/10/2006 12:10

mrspf - sure you've got better things to think about but just out of interest, how many dpo are you now and what days did you get your BFNs on? x

mrspf · 27/10/2006 12:47

Hi MrsMcJnr,

Well, its a bit difficult for me to be sure- I assumed I was 13 and 15 dpo when I got my BFN results (last Thurs and Sat), based on the fact I had a 28 day cycle and assumed I OVd on CD14. But since then, I have started to think I OVd possibly as late as CD21. I got some strange sharp pains in my side on that day and I BD the night before, so that could have been the "one". As I hadn't BD for 5 days prior to that (or since!) I can't explain things otherwise...

So I reckon I could be as early as 13 dpos NOW which is why I got the BFNs earlier.

Good luck with your testing xxx

MrsMcJnr · 27/10/2006 12:52

ummm, a conundrum! Not that it matters now Feeling ok? any early signs?

mrspf · 27/10/2006 13:18

Yes, it is a conundrum, and the only other explanation is that I did OV around CD14 (when I was busy BDing and that the pains on CD21 could have been implantation pains (?) but that the hormone levels were just lower than expected last week.

With my last pregnancy, i tested on CD28 and got a BFP straightaway, but with my first I tested on CD28 and got a BFN until I tested again 3 days later.

I have been feeling a bit queasy and really really moody, but put that down to worrying about "am I aren't I" and mostly thinking I wasn't. It makes sense to chart so that you know exactly when to test and not test too early.

MrsMcJnr · 30/10/2006 09:41

Hey lucky thread - you've all gone quiet in my 2WW! Keep me company and send me positive vibes

KitKat30 · 30/10/2006 09:52

Sorry MrsMcJ - it's been one of those weekends! How are you feeling - any more symptoms? Feeling lucky for you...

x

sunshinedays · 30/10/2006 10:18

congratulations Mrs PF - delighted for you.

My AF came on Saturday - so looks like the B6 stretched my LP to 10 days... better than 7-9 I guess!

How are you doing MrsMc... fingers and toes crossed for you

KitKat30 · 30/10/2006 10:34

oh sunshine - sorry hon . Good news about the LP though - should be better for next month.

MrsMcJnr · 30/10/2006 11:04

Hello KitKat hello Sunshinedays - sorry to hear about AF but that is great news about the LP. Hopefully, this month will be a lucky one for you .

I'm feeling ok. I have had some odd symptoms (if you can call them that) this weekend - sorry if TMI but very strange bowels and today I am feeling crampy all over my lower ab and my back too. So that does not suggest anything good. I am 7dpo so AF is due on Friday, I so so hope this is my lucky month.
