Just found out you are pregnant after a previous miscarriage and too nervous to move over the to pregnancy boards? Freaking out about spotting, cramping, symptoms (or lack there of) and nervously awaiting your first scan? Here is a lovely place for lot's of support, hand holding and problem sharing.

Courtesy of owlbooty here are the Ten Commandments of the Freak Out Room.

  1. Thou shalt check thy knickers to the point of insanity until the baby actually arrives.
  2. Thou shalt also check the loo roll post-wipeage (sorry, gross, I know)
  3. Thou shalt bore thy physician and midwife to tears with the mentalling.
  4. And thy husband/boyfriend/family/neighbour's cat.
  5. Thou shalt obsess over the absence of symptoms.
  6. And the presence of symptoms.
  7. And the fluctuation of symptoms.
  8. Thou shalt pee on a vast number of sticks and keep ClearBlue and First Response in business.
  9. The day before any scan extreme mentalling is permitted without recourse to the Haddock.
10. Self-diagnosis with Dr Google is Forbidden.

The Haddock will be applied liberally to all transgressors.

Hi everyone, do you have room for another anxiety riddled crazywoman?!!

I'm 35 and we've been ttc our first baby for nearly a year. Last September I got a BFP but it was all over with my ERPC at the end of Nov. Since then I've had two cycles of 37 days (I used to be regular as clockwork with 28 days each cycle).

Over the last week weird things have been happening with my body, enough for my DP to say 'I really think you might be pregnant' (he never picked up on anything before) so on Monday (CD27) I tested and there was a pale line. I showed it to DP on Monday night and he was thrilled, and all I could do was cry as I'm SO scared it'll happen again.

I tested again yesterday, and the line is definitely there. I don't want to go crazy testing everyday (although that's really what I want to do) and I'm worried that if I have shifted to a 37 day cycle this positive result is SO early that it won't stick around.

Think I'm going to hold off for a couple of weeks before I call the doctor.

Sorry for the me, me, me introduction. I'm looking forward to hearing positive stories from others and people talking some common sense into me!

jaylee89 · 14/03/2012 11:07

Tiago · 14/03/2012 13:07

misslaughalot - I have gone crazy and now have a drawer full fof PG tests all showing two lines. I am sufficiently mad that I like to line them us just to 'check' (again) that the lines get darker. I have weaned myself off from testing daily - I'm down to every 3 days now.

far I have no sickness either (at 6+2). I asked a doctor today and she said it is fine, and that she wouldn't often expect to see any sickness until abotu week 8 anyway. I am tired, which Is a relief for me as my initial symptom (boob-ache) has essentially vanished sav for first thing in the morning - and that may just be the bruising from endless prodding!

I'm not brave enough to add myself to the stats yet. I need a scan with a live baby first.

Chunkychicken · 14/03/2012 13:25

Hi misslaughalot - I'm in a similar boat. I tested on Saturday (cd27) and when I got a BFP I wished I hadn't tested!! I had a chem pg last month ( v early but I tested v early too) so now I'm panicked that it will happen again. So I've got a POAS regime all worked out, to use up all the cheapy sticks I bought from the £1 shop & culminating in a Clearblue digital when I'm about 6wks. Madness?? Probably, but it makes me feel like I'm doing something. Every day AF stays away is a good one for me...

Tiago & Far I'm feeling sick in waves at about 10-11am, along with dizziness & getting lots of headrushes, but no boob soreness, until bra-off time before bed. This was bothering me (& made me think I wasn't pg/imaging symptoms at first) because it was the complete opposite with my DD. The first sign for me with her was a feeling my boobs were out on stalks but this time, nothing. Each pg I've had has been different, so who knows what goes on in there? Confused

PieMistress thanks for the welcome. :) Not feeling brave enough yet, may add EDD etc when I hit the 5/6 wk mark.

misslaughalot · 14/03/2012 16:42

Thanks for the warm welcome ladies, it's so good to know I'm not alone in all this crazy thinking.

Can anyone tell me if I might be offered anything extra from the midwife this time around, or if there's anything I should ask for? Do you think I might get to have an early scan or not?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just so new to this!

Tiago · 14/03/2012 16:52

misslaughalot you might get an early scan. I can't get one from the midwives unless something is obviously wrong (and they appear to have changed how things are done and don't want to even see people until at leat 8 weeks) so today I have arranged one privately.#

Chunky I am so glad when others say they do not have the sore boob symptoms (or only sometimes). Its really quite reassuring :)

farfallarocks · 14/03/2012 17:42

There is a heartbeat!! The most beautiful flicker I have ever seen.
Measuring 6+3
I was so happy I hugged the sonographer and he looked very embarassed Blush
Obviously a longway to go yet but the best news we could hope for.
Thank you so much for your support!!

I asked about morningsickness and doc said totally normal not to have any at this stage and thank your lucky stars.:)

kirrinIsland · 14/03/2012 18:31

Great news far Brilliant.

miss I've always been offered an 8 week scan without asking, but I don't know if I'm just lucky round here - I guess it varies from area to area?
No harm in asking though, and it's usually possible to arrange it privately if not, probably worth it if it helps put your mind at rest a bit.
I'm going to see if I can get a 10 week one as well, but if not I'll go private I think.

Does anyone know what's the earliest they can see anything? I haven't even notified the midwives yet - I've been putting it off til I get to 6 weeks - which is tomorrow! - so unlikely to get one before 8 weeks anyway I guess?

Moominsummermadness · 14/03/2012 18:52

Hooray for far! Wonderfuly news. Lol, it reminded me of when I passed my driving test and hugged the examiner. She looked horrified.

Welcome misslaughalot. Feel free to mental away in here! In my area, they don't offer reassurance scans on the NHS, unless you (unfortunately) have any kind of bleeding. It might be different where you live.

kirrin, they might be able to see a heartbeat at about 6 weeks, I know in my hospital they won't scan before 6 weeks (they did with me though, but long story!), but you'll be that tomorrow anyway. My GP said to me after MC that she advised waiting until 8 weeks for any scans, to be sure that something would be seen.

I admitted defeat last night, and got my maternity clothes out. Am nice and comfy in my trousers now! My 20 week scan appointment has come through today for the 30th April.

Hope your scan goes well tomorrow amandine.

Hello to everyone else!

PieMistress · 14/03/2012 19:48

Whoop whoop far that is such brilliant news. I'm hoping you are feeling a bit more reassured (well as much as you can IYSWIM, miscarriage does take away that pregnancy innocence doesn't it) :(

kirren , misslaugh, I wasn't offered any reassurance scans here either, I had to pay privately for a scan at about 9w. It's only if you are bleeding etc that they will scan you here. I tried to hang out as long as possible before going for an early scan as between 6-7w they might tell you to come back as it can be common not to see a heartbeat before 7 or so weeks (I think).

Hope scan goes well tomorrow amandine. It's a DD you have already isn't it?

moomin got to love maternity clothes and being able to let everything out! Ahhhh.

tiago, far when I was pregnant with DS I had hardly any morning sickness at all, I never threw up at all and can only remember feeling nauseas (is that even spelt right!) a few times. I haven't actually thrown up this pregnancy either and never had sore boobs with DS or this time! Everybody is different so please don't worry about any lack of boobage or sickness! Also my boobs didn't really get bigger till much nearer 12weeks both times.

Anybody else watching OBEM?

jaylee89 · 14/03/2012 19:56

ooo yessss always watch OBEM!!!

i can actually watch it now without feeling sad as im pregnant myself :). i used to hate watching it beginning of this year i used to think "that should be me" but it will be in 9 months time lol!

i have been having alot of sickness and its hit full force tonight. but i always have sicky pregnancies. and my boobage is always terrible thats what always gives it away and i know im pg before i get my BFP!

far that is amazing news and im so made up for you. im smiling from ear to ear!!

hopefully ill get a 8 wk scan this time around fingers x'd hope everyone is having a nice day

x

misslaughalot · 15/03/2012 07:31

Tested again this morning and my second line is nice and dark now...so glad I wasn't imagining it!

I'm a well-educated, confident, sane 35 year old the rest of the time. This whole process is giving me a personality transplant!

farfallarocks that's amazing that you got to see a heartbeat at 6 weeks! It must be so reassuring! Yay!

Good luck to everyone else who's made it to the scan stage!

jaylee89 · 15/03/2012 08:22

miss thats wonderful news congratulations :)

xxx

Chunkychicken · 15/03/2012 10:27

I too tested this morning Misslaughalot & the line was visible as soon as the urine travelled its way up the strip, iyswim, so I felt a bit reassured by that!! Still have a few more sticks/weeks to get through though before I feel like it might stick around...

As far as early scans go, I assume they don't do anything in my region unless you have a history of mc & think that means 3 or more, or perhaps less if you're older/got a diagnosed condition. I might consider an early private scan but think DH would think I'm bonkers!!

farfallarocks · 15/03/2012 10:31

Thanks everyone and pie nice to see you. Yes it does a bit but am trying very very hard to be positive for this bean.

The doc was very clear (before the scan, he sort of gace us a lecture) that at 6weeks its 50/50 as to whether you will see a heartbeat. He said he did not want me to panic if there was not one.
The only reason I had a scan so early was because I am heparin/clexane and they need to check the position (i.e. is it in the uterus and not the fallopian tube) because an ecpotic pregnancy on blood thinners can cause very serious bleeding. So the purpose of a 6 weeker is JUST to locate the pregnancy, anything else is a bonus.

So for a reassurance scan I would hang on until 8 weeks, just in case your dates are a bit out. You should definitely see a heartbeat by then.

miss great news about the line, we can all relate to being loonies in an otherwise mentally sane body :)

Thinking of amandine today.

Loup23 · 15/03/2012 14:13

yay for far congratulations on the HB, stay positive!

Good luck Amandine sorry i've lost track, is it a scan today or is it a MW appointment? I think you must be 16/17 weeks now?

Waves to new joiners too, wishing you all good luck. I still worry about bean every day and have a private scan booked for Monday (16+2) DH thinks I am mental as we heard the HB at the MW appointment last week.... Perhaps I am mental but can't get enough of seeing the wriggly bean! Blush

AmandinePoulain · 15/03/2012 16:17

Both today loup! Just back from the mw, baby has a hb of 150 (girl?!), scan is at 6. The mw was really nice, she shouldn't really see me now until 28 weeks but she's offered me an appointment at 24 if I want it for reassurance Smile

PieMistress · 15/03/2012 16:19

Great news amandine my MW has also offered me extra appts, she's lovely and it really does make a difference (saw her with DS and with the miscarriage). What is the gist with the heartbeat and gender?

AmandinePoulain · 15/03/2012 16:29

Allegedly a HR of greater than 140 = girl. It was true for dd anyway Grin

PieMistress · 15/03/2012 16:37

Ah, ok well MW said this one had hb of 150 - 160bpm when I was last there but am sure DS's was very similar (have still got it on my mobile phone)! I have a feeling this is a boy, can't quite put my finger on why!

farfallarocks · 15/03/2012 16:41

Oh fantastic news amandine, hurray and what a lovely midwife!

I am feeling so hungover, like I need to eat every 3/4 hours (toast preferably) or I will be sick. As soon as I eat I am fine. Obivously I am NOT hungover. I am taking it as a Good Thing :)

AmandinePoulain · 15/03/2012 16:50

That's how I felt far, hungover for 8 weeks! It's lovely when you come out the other side Grin
