Just found out you are pregnant after a previous miscarriage and too nervous to move over the to pregnancy boards? Freaking out about spotting, cramping, symptoms (or lack there of) and nervously awaiting your first scan? Here is a lovely place for lot's of support, hand holding and problem sharing.

Courtesy of owlbooty here are the Ten Commandments of the Freak Out Room.

  1. Thou shalt check thy knickers to the point of insanity until the baby actually arrives.
  2. Thou shalt also check the loo roll post-wipeage (sorry, gross, I know)
  3. Thou shalt bore thy physician and midwife to tears with the mentalling.
  4. And thy husband/boyfriend/family/neighbour's cat.
  5. Thou shalt obsess over the absence of symptoms.
  6. And the presence of symptoms.
  7. And the fluctuation of symptoms.
  8. Thou shalt pee on a vast number of sticks and keep ClearBlue and First Response in business.
  9. The day before any scan extreme mentalling is permitted without recourse to the Haddock.
10. Self-diagnosis with Dr Google is Forbidden.

The Haddock will be applied liberally to all transgressors.

Loup23 · 29/02/2012 11:51

Thanks moomin nice to be on a list and see us progressing!

Good luck to far for today. I might try and find the grads list then and have a nose and hope that I can join in a few weeks (my 20 week scan is actually at 18+5) so only 5 weeks of mentalling.....Wink

PieMistress · 29/02/2012 11:53

Hope all goes well today far will be thinking of you!

farfallarocks · 29/02/2012 11:57

Call just in, HCG 600, whoppppeeeeee, I could cry with happiness.

No more cramping and just some very light brown/mucky discharge once a day when I wipe. Obviously very very early days but its as good as I can hope for at this stage.

I am still too chicken to join the list though :)

AmandinePoulain · 29/02/2012 12:04

Grin for far. Have you got a scan booked for more reassurance?

farfallarocks · 29/02/2012 12:10

Yes I have a 6 week scan booked in for the 14th march, I will be somewhere between 6+0 and 6+2, might be too early to see a heartbeat so wondering whether I should move it back a week, hmmmmm. I have a tilted uterus which apparently makes it harder to see what is going on at the early stages.

AmandinePoulain · 29/02/2012 12:15

They warned me at (what I thought was) 6+2 that I might not see anything, there was a fetal pole with hb but it turns out that I was actually closer to 7w then. If you don't see anything presumably they'll call you back a week later?

You'll have your '20' week scan before me then loup, mines after the bh weekend when I'll be 20+1. I've got a mw appointment the week after next when she'll get the Doppler out...I'm hoping that'll be enough of a fix for me until then! And I'm feeling occasional little flutterings despite my anterior placenta so they are probably in my head Grin

Moominsummermadness · 29/02/2012 13:18

Good news far. That's an excellent result. I have a tilted uterus too, and using an abdominal scan, they couldn't see anything at all, not even a gestational sac at 5+5. However, with previous pregnancy, I had a transvaginal scan at 6+4, and they could see a heartbeat, how they scan you does make a difference at an early stage, especially when you have a titled uterus. I was told though, that it isn't so much the actual gestation, but the HCG level when you have the test done that counts. They said that once it reaches 1500, they would expect to see something. If yours carries on doubling at the speed it is, a scan at 6 weeks ish might be fine. Like amandine says, if they don't see anything, they'll presumably call you back a week later.

Loup23 · 29/02/2012 14:54

yay for far that's great news, I agree with others, i have a titled uterus but at 7+3 thebean was quite clear, they can always do trans vaginal scan or call you back a week later like amandine said. Good Luck, hope 14th comes whizzing by!

amandine i think i'd rather have a scan at 20+ as one at 18+5 will still leave me wanting one at 20 weeks! Can't get enough reassurance. I have a MW appointment on the 12th, is it routine for the MW to whip the doppler out? I hope so..... Grin

PieMistress · 29/02/2012 20:12

Is that your 16w appt on the 12th loup? Mine found the heartbeat for me at that appt and I recorded it onto my mobile so DP could hear it :)

far fab news on your results! remember - today you are pregnant! :) :)

farfallarocks · 01/03/2012 10:18

Thanks girls, I will make sure its transvaginal!!

My positive attitude has gone as has more brown discharge this morning, lots more of it and darker although it has now stopped. No cramps or anything. Gosh this is so hard, if the discharge stopped I would find this so much easier with the mentalling. Have left a message for the docs to see what he advises (maybe another HCG tomorrow?)

I know it can be normal but this is exactly how it all started before, gah!!

Very reasurring to be here with you all and most of you are past 12 weeks, it gives me hope!!

Loup23 · 01/03/2012 10:59

Oh good luck far so sorry for you having this stress, hope the Dr can help.

Yes pie it will be my 16w appointment so hopefully the MW will have the doppler to hand to reassure me - had a wobble this morning that maybe something has happened to the bean since the scan last Monday, no reason for it just suddenly panicked as don't "feel" pregnant Confused, hopefully it will pass... x

PieMistress · 01/03/2012 13:05

Hope your doctor can reassure you far, many women have spotting thoughout their pregnancies, especially when AF would have been due. I went through doing a spell of CB Digi tests to make sure the numbers increased but got told off as they're seemingly not that reliable!

loup am pretty sure they will get the doppler out at your appt, you can always ask if she doesn't. In the early days (pre obvious bump) i've had to remind myself that i'm pregnant as I just didn't feel like I was at all!

The sun is cracking flags today (is that the saying?), have just been out for a walk and absolutely sweated in my thick winter jacket (which I can't do up anymore!). It certainly doesn't feel like 1st March normally does in Scotland!

AmandinePoulain · 01/03/2012 15:12

I've just booked us a gender scan for the 15th so that we can take dd and hopefully have a chilled out scan before the stress of the 20w one...am I mad?! Whilst I love the idea of her getting a good look, what if we get bad news? It's the same day as my mw appointment so if she can't find a hb on the Doppler because my placenta is in the way I guess the scan may provide reassurance...why do I have to mental about everything?!

Moominsummermadness · 02/03/2012 09:25

Hi girls,
Remember far, I'll second what pie has said, it's extremely common to have spotting/breakthrough bleeding, especially in the early stages. I can understand how you might be feeling, during my last pregnancy I had a brown discharge from day 1, and it turned out to be MMC discovered at dating scan. But I've had the same on and off this time, even bright red fresh bleeding at about 4 weeks, which i took to be AF, but so far, so good, baby looked ok at 10 + 2. So please don't give up hope, despite what you might feeling. Hopefully Dr will give you some good advice. Unfortunately though at this stage, only time can really tell. Try to take it easy, and find things to distract you from what's going on (if you can). For a lot of ladies, it is perfectly possible to have a healthy baby after MC, I had 2 chemical pregnancies after DD2, then had DD3. In the last year, as well as the MMC, I also had another chemical pregnancy. Am keeping everything crossed for this pregnancy. Your HCG results have certainly been very promising so far.

Loup, hope the midwife does listen to the heartbeat for you, I'm sure that she will. You've got your appointment the same day I've got my scan!

Nausea isn't getting a whole lot better yet, had a horrible evening on Wednesday, unfortuntely didn't manage to move away from the sink to the loo whilst brushing my teeth made me sick- then had to spend an hour unblocking sink- how delightful! Was horrified, was actually glad that DH was out watching football at the pub!

farfallarocks · 02/03/2012 15:13

Thank you for the reassurance,it means a lot to me. I had a terrible night as kept on losing more brown stuff, then one wipe of red and thought that is it, its over. Cried, accepted it was over and then today - nothing and 3rd hcg level of 1989 so going up still!! Doc was reassusing and said it can be caused by implantation, an irritable cervix, a nicked blood vessle etc

Am off on hols this week, so hopefully that will prove a nice distraction and not long to wait before a 6 week scan!

best of luck with scans and appointments!!!

PieMistress · 02/03/2012 18:03

Have a great hols far, hope you are off somewhere nice! :)

Sorry to hear you've had bad nausea moomin I found boiled sweeties like cola cubes (oh and ice lollies) were the only things that really kept it at bay!

Typically after a lovely warm mild sunny week it's now cold, drizzly and foggy. Can't even see out the back garden - mwahh!

Tiago · 03/03/2012 15:28

Hi all. Hope you don't mind me joining you. I read through the rules and when I got to these, I realised that I definitely belong here Grin:

  1. Thou shalt obsess over the absence of symptoms.
  2. And the presence of symptoms.
  3. And the fluctuation of symptoms.
  4. Thou shalt pee on a vast number of sticks and keep ClearBlue and First Response in business.

I am currently 4+4, following a MMC last June and a CP at the end of August. Been TTC#1 since December 2010 and have peed on 6 sticks and counting since Tuesday...

PieMistress · 03/03/2012 16:45

Hi tiago and welcome!!! Nice to see you here :) :) Are you going to try and get an early scan? Although i'm not guilty of no.8 any more I am still active in 5, 6 & 7 !!

Tiago · 03/03/2012 17:09

I am going to try for one on the NHS, and if that is not forthcoming shall be paying for one anyway. I figure that I will either be reassured or I will at least be able to start planning for future TTC. The MMC was a blighted ovum which could have continued for weeks if I hadn't had an early scan then and I don't think I could bear waiting another 7 1/2 weeks with no-one checking what was going on in there.

Despite the obsessive POAS, I think number 7 is currently my worst. My boob-ache comes and goes depending on temperature and time of day it seems, which is not helping my mental wellbeing!

PieMistress · 03/03/2012 19:45

There's no way I could have gone until 12w without a scan! I was 9w (I think! When I eventually pulled my head out of the sand and went for one!). I didn't have boob ache with any of my pregnancies (successful or miscarriage) and haven't thrown up (but have felt very nauseous!)

wellieboots · 05/03/2012 01:57

Hi ladies. Good luck far, keep hanging in there.
Sorry I haven't been around much, I was convinced it was all over on Wed, when I had some brown spotting and a couple of watery red wipes. Saw doc on Friday, he is not overly concerned but has referred for bloods which are due back today, and potentially a 6/7 wk scan, which would be late this week or early next. I promise to come back when I feel a bit more sane!

Moominsummermadness · 05/03/2012 13:10

Hello everyone.

Welcome, Tiago, this is definitely the place to be! I can empathise with number 7 too, especially in the very early days. Now my ever-present nausea and sickness is a constant reminder. I still have to keep prodding my boobs to detect tenderness, despite the fact that their size has dramatically increased!

Wellie, hopefully your scan will be good news. Make sure that you come back and let us all know.

Hope Far is having a nice holiday.

Will come back on later to update the stats for this week, am at work at the moment and the t'internet goes very slow here.

LimeFlower · 05/03/2012 15:16

Hello good ladies:)

Glad to see this thread is still going, although not so many people as it used to be.I never said goodbye to this thread and never "officially" joined the grads-too many things to do and not feeling too fantastic sometimes(getting better though):)

I will never forget the kindness of strangers on MN that helped me to stay sane and kept my mentalling under control.Thank you, thank you, thank you
ThanksThanksThanks

Just started 3rd trimester and still can't believe I got so far without any problems(touch the wood)

So...wishing all of you uneventful pregnancies with healthy bundles of joy at the end of the road:)

Keep smiling,it WILL happen:)

Moominsummermadness · 05/03/2012 17:29

Hello Lime, lovely to hear from you. I remember when you joined this thread when I was on it the first time around. Hope your 3rd trimester goes smoothly, and doesn't drag too much towards the end!
