Just found out you are pregnant after a previous miscarriage and too nervous to move over the to pregnancy boards? Freaking out about spotting, cramping, symptoms (or lack there of) and nervously awaiting your first scan? Here is a lovely place for lot's of support, hand holding and problem sharing.

Courtesy of owlbooty here are the Ten Commandments of the Freak Out Room.

  1. Thou shalt check thy knickers to the point of insanity until the baby actually arrives.
  2. Thou shalt also check the loo roll post-wipeage (sorry, gross, I know)
  3. Thou shalt bore thy physician and midwife to tears with the mentalling.
  4. And thy husband/boyfriend/family/neighbour's cat.
  5. Thou shalt obsess over the absence of symptoms.
  6. And the presence of symptoms.
  7. And the fluctuation of symptoms.
  8. Thou shalt pee on a vast number of sticks and keep ClearBlue and First Response in business.
  9. The day before any scan extreme mentalling is permitted without recourse to the Haddock.
10. Self-diagnosis with Dr Google is Forbidden.

The Haddock will be applied liberally to all transgressors.

Hi everyone - mind if I join you?

I had a mmc in January, and I'm now nearly 6 weeks pregnant, and it's terrifying. I get a sinking feeling every time I think about it, which is sad and makes me feel guilty. This is my fourth pregnancy. I have a DD and I lost my first pregnancy at 12 weeks, due to a condition that was "incompatible with life"

Thing is, whilst the first loss was awful, I did manage to enjoy my next pregnancy without tooooo much worry, as the condition was quite rare and it seemed quite unlikely that it would happen again. But I can't relax this time at all. I can even think ahead to 12 weeks as it just seems so far away.

Congrats on the scan moomin and on hearing the heartbeat loup :)

jaylee89 · 12/03/2012 18:54

welcome kirrin and so sorry to hear of your loss! i had a mc last january and me and dh have been ttc for over a yr im 5 weeks pregnant six on saturday and like you 12 weeks seems miles away! i have pos so hopefully they will scan me earlier this time im hoping around the 8 week mark!

like you im terrified and knicker checking like my life depends on it (quite literally does tbh) from the moment i found out i have been a serial worrier!

hope all is well babe and i know its harder said than done but try not to stress to much i tell myself this all the time but with no joy lol xx

Tiago · 12/03/2012 19:07

Hi Kirrin I am 6 weeks tomorrow and am slowly (well, rapidly actually) losing my mind. My early symptoms such as boobs hurting have essentially faded away even though the pg test lines come up strong, and I am totally stressed about it all - which isn't ideal.

Congrats on your wriggly scan Moomin.

Jemimapuddleduk · 12/03/2012 19:10

Hello I hope I can join you. I am currently having an absolute melt down as feeling convinced I am going to miscarry again. We have been ttc 2 years, had 2mcs last year and seem to have problems getting pregnant and staying pregnant. Anyhow we just had our first round of IUI treatment and found out we were pg last Wednesday. Have been driving myself crazy with lack if symptoms and taking endless pg tests. Anyway I did a clearblue digi today (this afto) and it read 1-2 weeks pregnant (since conception). Since we had IUI I know the exact date of ovulation and it should be reading 2-3 weeks. Feel seriously stressed. I just wish I could be enjoying this. Someone please hold my hand (dh had lost sympathy and thinks I am losing my marbles!)

kirrinIsland · 12/03/2012 19:22

Thanks everyone,

jaylee I'm hoping for an 8 weeks scan too. I'm very lucky in that our EPU are really good and understanding, some EPU's just won't do so called reasurrance scans.

taigo I know what you mean about the symptom spotting - I'm worrying about every little thing, even though I know from previous pregnancies that it's a bit early for symptoms for me. Bit of sickness would be nice though!

jemima I think the conception indicator on those clear blues is just a gimmick and not to be relied upon at all. Apparently hormone levels vary quite a lot in early pregnancy so the indicator is just a best guess really.

Chunkychicken · 12/03/2012 19:25

POAS is stressful Jemima!! I believe, from anecdotal evidence on these threads, that the Clearblue digital are not that accurate as the hCG levels in different women's blood/urine vary & it can obviously vary dependant on the amount you've drunk & so on. It isn't necessarily a bad sign. Will you get further monitoring and have blood tests to monitor levels?

I don't know what else to say, except I do sympathise with the anxiety & the need to constantly test & so on, and it is hard to relax. I've had 1 healthy pg go to term and my DD is nearly 2yo, yet I can't help but think this is going to pear-shaped after last time :( I can't believe it will last another day let alone another 8wks until a scan!!

Fingers crossed it will go smoothly for all of us.

Jemimapuddleduk · 12/03/2012 19:33

It is so hard to stay positive isn't it. Thanks kirrin and chicken for warning me about the clearblue tests, I wish I had never bought them! We do have a scan a week on Thursday at 6 weeks and then every 2 weeks until 12 weeks but still panicking!
Best of luck to everyone.

jaylee89 · 12/03/2012 21:16

jemima i wish you the best of luck and loads of sticky dust for you hun, kirrin im gonna ring my epu tomorrow just to see if i can book myself in as i have pso im hoping and praying they will accept my request and see me in 2-3 weeks time just so i can put my own mind at rest!

clear blue digi are not reliable at all i had a mc last january and 3 weeks after i mc it still read 2-3 weeks which completly confused me!

i wish all you girlies the best of luck and in 8 months time for us all to have happy bundles of joy :) xxx

kirrinIsland · 12/03/2012 22:19

good luck with the EPU jaylee

AmandinePoulain · 12/03/2012 22:49

Just a quick one (at work) to Grin for moomin and loup (150bpm = girl you know Wink Grin) and to welcome the new ladies.

I'm counting down the days until Thursday to check everything's ok in there and find out the flavour Grin

farfallarocks · 13/03/2012 08:19

loup fantastic news, well done and good luck on Thurs amandine, how exciting that you will be finding out the flavour!!

jemima can you ask the ask to do a HCG test 48 hours apart? That is much more accurate than the digi clear blue tests. I did this (well I did 3 because I had brown spotting) and it was very reassuring to see the levels doubling and has helped calm the mentalling (a bit) waiting for the 6 week scan!

jaylee you are not mental, totally totally normal, I knicker check and even get DH to analyse the loo roll with me Grin

tiago I was freaking out last week as norkage no longer sore but now its back, from what I have read its totally normal for the symptoms of pregnancy to fluctuate, as worrying as that is for us.

Welcome to kirrin , I hope you have a lovely and smooth pregnancy :)

Chunkychicken · 13/03/2012 08:29

Quick one from me (apart from saying Good Morning to all!!)- POAS again with FMU today. Def BFP with much darker line than on Sat and came up in half the time. So feeling a bit positive about things, as I've now passed the first 'hurdle' and AF def stayed away... Now just to pass the next 8wks without going mental!!!

jaylee89 · 13/03/2012 09:28

congratulations chunky i wish you the best of luck its easier said than done but please try not to worry! i find that the first 12 weeks we all go totally insane!!! like literally lol!

i have found the hardest part for me was actually getting my bfp!
getting a negotive every month is heart renching but now we have our pretty pink double lines!

loads of sticky dust and take care put ur feet up have a nice cuppa xxxx

jaylee89 · 13/03/2012 09:33

quick quewstion girls is it normal to have alot of discharge at 5+3 weeks?(sorry tmi) its really white and milky looking and sometimes watery? is this normal? i didnt have it with dd? and god my sicknessis now kicking in with vengence??

farfallarocks · 13/03/2012 09:52

jaylee yes totally normal (and has me running to the loo to check its not blood!)

I have no sickness at all, 6 weeks tomorrow, is that bad? Wibble wibble

jaylee89 · 13/03/2012 09:56

i wouldnt say it was a bad thing hunni lol some people dont get sickness at all i just seem to have it with every pg lol and very early indeed!

with dd i had it from 7 weeks right until i gave birth! which was terrible!

dont worry if your symptoms vary from being very sensitive to hardly visable.

symptoms tend to come and go in early pg.

best of luck

Moominsummermadness · 13/03/2012 13:17

Welcome to the new ladies.

Yay for loup on hearing the heartbeat. I need to book my midwife appointment for about 4 week's time, was told to go at about 16/17 weeks.

jemima, I deliberately decided not to use clearblue digital tests, because I knew it would worry me if the 'weeks since conception' didn't entirely tally with what I thought. As others have said, BHCG levels can very hugely among different women, and different pregnancies. In fact, I had a BHGC test last time I was pregnant, it was done at 6+1, and the result was over 39000, that pregnancy ended in MMC, the baby having died at 7+1. This time, I had serial BHCG tests done as they thought it was ectopic to start with, and my BHCG at 5+6 was 6800, and so far, so good.

Jemimapuddleduk · 13/03/2012 17:14

Thanks you lovely ladies for your words of reassurance. I am having a blood test on Thursday morning and then Friday morning. Fingers x'd that will put my mind at ease.

jaylee89 · 13/03/2012 17:18

i keep having like a fluttery feeling AT 5 WEEKS? below my belly? like someone popping bubble wrap inside me is this normal??

farfallarocks · 13/03/2012 18:16

jemima they should ideally be done 48hrs apart to check they are doubling

jaylee you might have all sorts of weird stretches, cramps etc

moomin interesting that your really high level was a MMC, I have read that really really high levels (whcih I think 39000 is for 6 weeks) can be a sign of genetic abnormality, which would tally with a MC?

I am in major wibble mode, 6 week scan tomorrow and am convinced it will be bad news or inconclusive torture/come back in 2 weeks. Not sure why as actually I have never got this far before and so I should be positive but now convincing myself that its because I am taking progesterone that I am not bleeding/cramping and the baby has died.

Oh this is total torture.......

Moominsummermadness · 13/03/2012 18:55

Hi *far8- yes it is interesting about the high Bhgc level- although the range for 6 weeks is up to 56000 ish, mine was so much higher that time, I never really gave it much thought, but I do think that you could be right about genetic abnormality.

Hope tomorrow goes well, 6 weeks can be early to see anything abdominally though, so I would request a trans-vaginal scan if I were you. At your stage, a trans-vaginal scan can see things approx 1 week earlier than trans-abdominally. The way I have dealt with pre-scan wibbles (have had 5 so far this pregnancy!) is to say to myself that I can't change what is going on in there, what will be will be etc, and within the next few hours I will know one way or the other! Easier said than done, but it does help.

Jaylee, I would say that it's likely to be intestinal rumblings, lol, rather than anything else. It can't be anything baby-related (well, not directly, anyway), as the baby will be about the size of a grain of rice). I found I bloated really quickly in the early weeks, and felt all sorts of weird sensations, but think it was merely my body adjusting to being newly pregnant and feeling the effects of the hormones etc.

Moominsummermadness · 13/03/2012 18:55

That should have said Far!

kirrinIsland · 13/03/2012 20:24

far got my fingers crossed for you for tomorrow - the night before a scan is awful isn't it? Can't think about anything else. Try and relax thought.
FWIW my sickness has always kicked in at 7 and a half weeks, it varies for everyone so try not to compare.

Listen to me dispensing calming advice - you'd never guess I was a nervous wreck myself would you?!

jaylee I have the fluttery feelings too - I'm pretty sure it's wind! I'm also really bloated. Couple with the rudolph nose from my current cold and I look fab at the mo Grin

Loup23 · 13/03/2012 22:38

Good luck for tomorrow far I have everything crossed for you Wink

Will name check properly tomorrow, need to sleep off my three course meal first Blush

Night to all beans and bumps! X

Chunkychicken · 14/03/2012 08:27

Good luck with the scan far :)
