Freak Out Room For Those Newly Diffed Up After MC Part IX

LAF77 · 27/09/2011 08:52

Just found out you are pregnant after a previous miscarriage and too nervous to move over the to pregnancy boards? Freaking out about spotting, cramping, symptoms (or lack there of) and nervously awaiting your first scan? Here is a lovely place for lot's of support, hand holding and problem sharing.

Courtesy of owlbooty here are the Ten Commandments of the Freak Out Room.

  1. Thou shalt check thy knickers to the point of insanity until the baby actually arrives.
  2. Thou shalt also check the loo roll post-wipeage (sorry, gross, I know)
  3. Thou shalt bore thy physician and midwife to tears with the mentalling.
  4. And thy husband/boyfriend/family/neighbour's cat.
  5. Thou shalt obsess over the absence of symptoms.
  6. And the presence of symptoms.
  7. And the fluctuation of symptoms.
  8. Thou shalt pee on a vast number of sticks and keep ClearBlue and First Response in business.
  9. The day before any scan extreme mentalling is permitted without recourse to the Haddock.
10. Self-diagnosis with Dr Google is Forbidden.

The Haddock will be applied liberally to all transgressors.

Well I'm wishing you both all the very best Freelance and Twitt - hopefully third time's a charm for you both.

Freelance - I think you've hit the nail on the head there. No scans are going to be easy, but I'd your doctor is a little bit of a pioneer, I think you just have to put yourself in his hands and hope he can work his magic. I certainly hope he does.

Sorry if I've been interrogating you this evening (or whatever time it is there!) I don't mean to hold you captive in the freak out room if you don't want to, but you know we're wishing you the very best and if you want to update us, I'm sure we'd love to hear it.

Good luck!!!

freelancegirl · 18/11/2011 22:57

Oh no Biscuits, it's always great to chat to people about it who can understand! Thanks for the interest too. And Laf as well. And for the positive words about the doctor. You are right, I just need to try to trust in the process. I just didn't want to tempt fate by posting here, iykwim. Which is a ridiculous concept as we all well know.

Twittwooo I've been keeping an eye on you too and so glad to see it is all going well! Can't believe we are both on our third pregnancy of the year. I remember you dropping off this board around the same time as me last time I think. Lets hope it is third one of the year lucky all round xx

PieMistress · 19/11/2011 08:54

Congrats free on your BPF :) You offered me some great words of advice (thank you) when I posted about what to do differently TTC after miscarriage and I'm now (very tentatively) 7.5 weeks. Fingers crossed that it's 3rd time lucky for you and this is a sticky bean xx

freelancegirl · 19/11/2011 19:04

Thanks Pie! I remember you too. It's funny to think we have a load of virtual friends here who are all aware of each other's existence and what we've all been going through. Quite nice really. Glad I helped with the TTC advice, it seems getting pregnant is not something I struggle with so far! It's just staying pregnant... Really pleased the 7.5 weeks so far have gone well for you and hope the rest of the time flies by in a whirl of happy pregnancy xx

Velvetcu · 20/11/2011 20:00

free congrats on your bfp.

Just delinking to say hello Smile it's lovely to see beans making good progress

KnitterNotTwitter · 20/11/2011 20:05

Congratulation freelance so pleased to see you back Grin

confu3ed · 21/11/2011 20:13

LAF 22 weeks is amazing :) and I do feel like I am in a total time warp. It feels like I have been waiting for months, but it has only been weeks.

Thanks Twittwoo, is your 13 week scan your first one?

Lady, thank you for the tip I so need it and use music during the day to escape from the constant wondering! Great to hear that progesterone really does make a difference too.

Catamongst, thank you. Sleeping is a bit better at the moment as I am so shattered all of the time. I do wake up 3 times a night needing the toilet but I am putting all of these down to positive signs. Hope you found a nice dress to wear :)

Freelance, tentative congratulations on the BFP, crazy holiday!!

I had my scan today, was terrified even more so when it looked like an empty sack, my heart just sank. Then suddenly a tiny visible fetal pole appeared with a heart beat. It measured 4mm which puts me between 5 - 6 weeks. The sonogropher said that there are no guarantees but that a heartbeat is a good sign. The nurse at the clinic booked me in for another scan in 3 weeks due to my history and told me to keep using the progesterone. I do feel much more positive about things, but scared that 3 weeks is a long time to wait to see if this is going to work out. Keeping everything crossed and taking it as easy as I can. But for today, I feel very positive :)

LAF77 · 21/11/2011 20:55

confu3ed I'm so happy for you that your scan went well! The chances of mc go down significantly when you see a heartbeat. You have a 95% chance of success. I'll bring out my http://www.brooksidepress.org/Products/Military_OBGYN/Ultrasound/1st_trimester_ultrasound_scannin.htm website that gives the statistics to make you feel better.

The early days are so hard and I'll be thinking of you. I would have went for daily scans if I could have afforded it, but I realised that I had to cope with my anxieties because there will always be something to worry about.

freelance I think it is very comforting that they are trying a different mix for you this time. I like the idea of trying a different approach after things didn't go right the first time around. I hope that you are able to enjoy your holiday and not stress too much.

I will update the list as biscuits and I are graduates now with caps and gowns. Not long to go before your scan, Kat. Are you getting your scan next week too, digi? Sadly, I learned from the other thread that boodleboot lost her baby, so I've put her in the "thinking of" section.

Baby's movements are much stronger now for me, I think by the end of the week, DH just might be able to feel them too!

Knitter I think that most of us will have "the Fear" somewhere deep inside.Question is how to keep it deep down and not let it out because this is when the freaking out happens.
Still remember obsessively checking my pants and post wipe paper, then thought "sod it,if anything happens I have absolutely no power to prevent it".Symptoms fluctuating made me feel exactly the same but with every day passing without the evil happening it made me believe that everything's going to be fine and repeat after me...

Knitter twit and freelance hope all of you will move or have moved on from the past and look forward to succesfull pg's.The positive attitude makes wonders.
freelance congrats on your BFP and enjoy your holidays basking in the sunshine
confu3ed congrats on the scan:)
LAF nice to see you but why do I always associate you with haddock?

Anyway, keep your spirits up ladies, fingers and legs crossed for all Grin

Oh digi that is awful, I didn't see that thread. ivy if you are reading this then I am so very very sorry.

Good luck with your scan today digi, mine is on Monday. I presume the 20 week scan is like the graduation ceremony here! I can't believe I have finally got to this point. Our list here is going to look short though, looking forward to seeing some of the newbies add themselves when they are feeling brave.

googietheegg · 23/11/2011 08:29

digi enjoy your scan - graduation, how exciting! Let us know how you get on.

JezzaJ9 · 23/11/2011 15:19

Hi All

I am new to this thread, it was suggested I join and it looks fab, I am 6+5 weeks after 2 MCs at 8 weeks in the last 12 months. Am feeling positive but as it approaches the 8 week mark I feel like I can hear the clock ticking its going so slow. The Dr promised the midwife would contact me early but it does not look like thats going to happen.

Great to know there are other knicker checkers too.

J9

KatAndKit · 23/11/2011 15:20

Welcome jezza and congratulations on your pregnancy. Can you get the number for the midwives from the gp receptionists and then hassle contact them yourself?

JezzaJ9 · 23/11/2011 15:37

Thanks Kat&Kit, I was giving it until exactly 2 weeks tomorrow and then I will be on the case.

Twittwooo · 23/11/2011 18:25

Welcome Jezza and congratulations. I am in a fairly similar situation to you, I had two miscarriages between June and August and am now on my third pregnancy of the year. I'm a little further on that you, almost 13 weeks now, but I know how it feels to be approaching the time that the previous MCs happened. It's good to hear that you're feeling positive - stay strong and look after yourself. When you feel ready, it might be worth approaching your midwife or EPU directly. My doctor told me it would be very unlikely I would get an early scan, but I called the EPU myself and the midwife booked me in for one.

I hope your scan went we today digi, thinking of you!

Hello to everyone else. xx

digitalgirl · 23/11/2011 20:17

Scan went well! Feels so wonderful to have got this far, nearly cried again. Baby was very good and stayed quite still for the measurements but when it came to 'picture time' the little monkey kept turning it's head towards 'camera' when the sonographer was trying to get a snap of its profile. Was very lovely to see it for all that time.

Welcome jezza - congrats on your bfp. Will you be having an early scan around the 8-9 week mark? Fingers crossed the next few weeks go quickly for you.

LimeFlower · 23/11/2011 20:52

Hello everybody:)

Jezza congrats on your pg.Definitely worth hassling calling the midwife or dr again.I had my first appointment at 9 weeks but called the dr first-I had 1 mc and to get any medical investigations you have to have 3 documented ones.I'm over 35 now and said to the doc that if anything goes wrong(touch the wood) I want to have it in my notes as I can't afford to loose any more time. She agreed with me.So far so good.
digi congrats on the scan-wished mine was so calm during my scan-they couldn't measure it as it was so wriggly.Well, looks like ants in the pants, just like mum Grin

Well,my very DP has popped the question this morning so if everything goes well I might be Mrs before bubba is born.No flowers or ring but hoovered the stairs instead that will do me as I'm a bit on practical side so over the moon today.
Lying on the sofa just now with undone trousers button wondering why my tummy is flat in the morning and bulge appears in the evening?

Biscuitsandtea · 23/11/2011 20:56

Ah Lime that's amazing news! Congratulations to you and your hubbie to be Grin

And congrats again to Digi on your scan news. And to Kat on hitting the 20 week mark Smile

digitalgirl · 23/11/2011 22:26

Congratulations lime - have you set a date? Will you shop for rings together? I love a wedding!

JezzaJ9 · 24/11/2011 11:18

Thanks and Congratulations Lime thats lovely x

Digi - thanks, I am calling today as I was hoping to get an early scan my GP suggested it would be a good idea and put a note for the MW but no ones has called me so I set today as a deadline. Even if its in 2-3 weeks it would give me something to look to, its all a bit surreal at the moment, but I have a DS who is nearly 3 keeping me busy when I am not at work x

Fishandjam · 24/11/2011 11:53

Hi ladies,

Just a quick check in to say that my scan went fine today - 8 week (approx) foetus with visible heartbeat. I'm 9 weeks by the calendar so that's about right (I often have a 32 day cycle). Sooooo relieved. I know it's no guarantee that everything will continue to be fine, but it's much better than no info at all.

Will catch up on the thread later!

LimeFlower · 24/11/2011 15:45

Thank you:) will have a lot of thinking to do how to accomodate the family -parents split and remarried so no easy task.I have to get my birth certificate which might be a bit of a problem as I come from overseas and don't fancy flying right now-being pg is one thing and getting stuck on the airport is another.
Exactly a year ago I was just about to fly back to Scotland when there was this big snowfall in Europe-first they cancelled my flight then they closed the airports.
A small ceremony with handful of friends and parents will do.Haven't got a clue where or when, thinking of beginning of March.Haven't got loads of money and the house badly needs the revamp almost everywhere (all furniture and carpets) so might resign from engagement ring bloody practical side again to accomodate that.

Fishandjam congrats on the scan,it will be fine.
digi forgot to ask whether you found out the sex of the baby?My brain-that's if I've got any left-seems to be away with the fairies most of the time Blush too much dreaming:)
