Freak Out Room For Those Newly Updiffed After M/C Part VII

Blackkat · 05/06/2011 14:30

Just found out you are pregnant after a previous miscarriage and too nervous to move over the to pregnancy boards? Freaking out about spotting, cramping, symptoms (or lack there of) and nervously awaiting your first scan? Here is a lovely place for lot's of support, hand holding and problem sharing.

Courtesy of owlbooty here are the Ten Commandments of the Freak Out Room.

  1. Thou shalt check thy knickers to the point of insanity until the baby actually arrives.
  2. Thou shalt also check the loo roll post-wipeage (sorry, gross, I know)
  3. Thou shalt bore thy physician and midwife to tears with the mentalling.
  4. And thy husband/boyfriend/family/neighbour's cat.
  5. Thou shalt obsess over the absence of symptoms.
  6. And the presence of symptoms.
  7. And the fluctuation of symptoms.
  8. Thou shalt pee on a vast number of sticks and keep ClearBlue and First Response in business.
  9. The day before any scan extreme mentalling is permitted without recourse to the Haddock.
10. Self-diagnosis with Dr Google is Forbidden.

The Haddock will be applied liberally to all transgressors.

Loving all the holiday and flying chat ladies! I second Singapore airlines and Cathay as well. We actually don't rate Emirates all that highly as a lot of their cabin crew are young and inexperienced whereas when we've flown with Sing and Cathay, we've felt much more comfortable with their hosties actually knowing what they're doing! Not yet flown Qatar, although their fares are very good. I'm travelling back to the UK mid July and have booked Emirates as we're quite tied in with them with the airmiles these days and I've upgraded to biz on the way there with points and hoping if I make myself look super pg on the way back, they may upgrade for free Grin - why not try it yourselves ladies?!

I'll definitely be in touch nearer the time you get here lara and can definitely recommend a hospital for you (not that you will need it of course!)

Thanks for the new thread blackkat and loving the zen terrace - nice work! How is your dad doing by the way?

wombatinwaiting · 06/06/2011 17:33

Oooh x post with thread-sucking milky - wonderful news on the scan Smile

CollieandPup · 06/06/2011 17:34

blakkat I agree with yoru view on Virgin!! Awful! We flew with them to Tobago a few years ago for MIL wedding and they were dreadful. We were in ecomony and MIL in business but i've seen WAY better in economy with other airlines.

Ohh, free upgrades. Never had one Sad despite hints!! Had a friend who flew 1st class for her honeymoon, which i think would be another world - but then again i think it was with Virgin so maybe not Grin

milky scan sounds wonderful. Weekly scans will be sooo reassuring!

Ok, its hometime for me now, so i'm off. might check in later when i'm done painting.

Velvetcu · 06/06/2011 18:48

flippin' heck ladies! I wish I could be bored at work!!

congrats on the scan milky

am very Envy of all your holidays. We had to cancel our trip to Japan at easter because of baby/radiation issue and that was to be our big holiday this year :(

tiggersreturn · 06/06/2011 22:06

I'm a solicitor Grin but do commercial law and none of my clients have ever had an issue in saying they're unhappy. Maybe it's because it's less personal as it's their company's money going on our fees and if it doesn't achieve a result they'll have to justify the expenditure.

dooscooby · 07/06/2011 07:59

Good luck with the scan today onions.

Anyone fancy a rowntrees fruit pastille ice lolly, my new favourite craving even at this time of day!

LaraMi · 07/06/2011 09:18

Morning All...

Just had a yummy fruit salad - strawberries, blueberries and grapes. Divine. I figure that if I start the day on a health-high then it doesn't matter if things go downhill as the day progresses Grin.

Can't wait to hopefully meet you in Dubai, WIW - will be fab (albeit maybe a little weird).

Loving the flight talk - we're a well-travelled bunch. I figured that the best way to look super pg (as opposed to fat) is to wear v fitting clothes over your boobs and stomach.... An empire line works a treat.

Blackkat - I know it's yesterday's conversation, but am intrigued - how comes your DH has to book leave a whole year in advance?

Good luck today, Onions.....

harassedinherpants · 07/06/2011 09:54

Morning!

Sorry I'm not about much, still don't have any internet at home until Friday so am only posting in work.

Lara I'm addicted to fruit at the moment! Have a box of melon, blueberries, strawberries and appple. Helps with sickness I find, but my eating habits do decline as the day goes on!

Milkway fab scan Grin.

Good luck Onions!

I'm also jealous of your hols!! Dh has decided we're not having one this year, so we'll take a week off and have a weekend away here and there. Dd (4.11) is NOT impressed, she wanted to go to the Dominican.... Grin.

All ok here, still sick and tired, but mentalling like mad about the scan on Friday. Dh is looking forward to it, and is really positive... I'm finding that difficult, and bloody annoying!!!!

LaraMi · 07/06/2011 11:07

IMHO, DHs are always much more positive than us DWs (is that even an abbreviation?). It's generally because they don't spend time agonising on sites like this me thinks! My DH is blissfully unaware of 85% of what can go wrong - and that's after he's read the Pregnancy Book (which he keeps in the loo).

Harassed - your DD has very refined tastes for a 4.11 y.o.

First major achievement of the day.... (besides all the high-value stuff I am doing at work, of course...!) Just secured an upgrade at the hotel we'll be staying at. I run events and so always use that as my hook - tends to always work . Only downside is that I often get dragged on a tour of the conference facilities at some point . Worth it though.

Blackkat · 07/06/2011 11:24

Morning all,

Hope the scan goes well today Onions

Lara great news on the upgrade. If you really want the explanation, here goes: Smile DH works for the fire service. They get given a rota and leave sheet for the next year in November. About 80% of their leave is non-negotiable unless someone of the same rank and on the same watch pattern will swap. The remaining days are divided into 3 categories (why?) some of which can be moved to the weeks you want when the sheets come out in November and then that's it unless it's the odd day or an emergency. The system is complicated and frustrating and not very flexible (he couldn't get the night off before we got married until the week before the big day - we hadn't been dim, his watch pattern had changed after we'd booked the date and they refused to take that pre-arrangement into consideration) It drives me round the bend and I get sick of going places on my own but he loves his job so I try to limit my moaning. [must try harder emoticon] Ok, you did ask!!!! Grin

WIW good to hear from you, your trip to the UK sounds good, FX for your return upgrade Smile. Thanks for asking after my Dad. He's doing well thanks, he's 3 months into hormone treatment and starts radiotherapy this month but he looks better and is beginning to put back on some of the weight he'd lost.

Doo mmmmm fruit pastille lollies, I've had a few boxes of those so far. I'm going to save mine for sitting on the terrace later while I'm watching the tennis working. Grin

CollieandPup · 07/06/2011 11:35

morning ladies.

harassed Grin @ your dd, wanting to go to the Dominican!! I don't think I'd even heard of the place at that age!!

Good luck for your scan on Friday harassed I was totally shitting it on the at to our private scan at 11 wk. Hope the move is at least distracting you.

lara well done on the room upgrade!! Always nice! We managed one on Dubai too, and free breakie- not actually sure how either, something to do with a mix up with our booking that we made a fuss about!

Can I ask a probably daft question. I'm now 'out' at work, and the word has largely spread. And I did tell my boss in a one to one. But am I supposed to write to them to tell them formally? Why? And who do I write to?

Blackkat · 07/06/2011 11:40

Hey Collie check your mat policy at work, it will tell you what to do. You need to are going to read those policies Grin

OP posts:
harassedinherpants · 07/06/2011 11:46

Collie we went in 2009 for our honeymoon and took her with us as she was just coming up to 3. She loved every minute of it, but it was wonderful!! She refers to it as "our honeymoon" Grin. Sorry I can't help with the letter question, my company is tiny!

lara nice one!! Isn't it quite nice to have a nose around though?!

Blackkat xh was a firefighter...... glad I don't have the holiday hassle any more!

I'm soooo bored at work! Not for lack of things to do mind. It's just not challenging any more.....

LaraMi · 07/06/2011 12:08

Ooh - fascinating hearing about the leave situation. The system had to have been created by a man I reckon. I totally understand that full resourcing at the fire service is absolutely imperative but the system surely doesn't always work in practise.

Random question (not intending to cause panic - am just nosey curious). What happens re. paternity leave in the fire service and what happens if you go into labour when your DH is on his shift? Can he just run out or is there strict protocol there.

Collie, with regards my work place, I don't need to actually do anything until around 20 weeks when I have to give my Mat-whatever-it's-called form to HR. Apparently there is then a meeting between HR, my line manager and I to discuss my plans.

wombatinwaiting · 07/06/2011 12:32

He he harassed about DD referring to "our honeymoon". Also most bored at work - nothing urgent on which means my work rate goes down big time. It's that whole when you want something done, ask the busiest person you know - don't ask me to do anything when I'm quiet - guaranteed not to get done!

Good news on the upgrade lara - are you here on a tues night? Next door to the Mina Seyahi, at the Westin, they do free bubbles for ladies - actually, scrap that - baby brian has just kicked in - you won't be able to take advantage - doh! Does DH like bubbles?!

Good to hear re: your dad blackkat - fingers crossed the recovery continues well.

willitbe · 07/06/2011 12:49

I hope I don't botch the list up by trying to add myself, forgive any mistakes please.

I am here on pregnancy number 14 hoping for baby number 4. I have been preggo 9 times in the last 3 years and each one said byebye, so just hoping that this one will be different.

Hello WIW! The Westin is lovely - stayed there in Dec 09. I am not sure I'd be well-received if I take my bumped self and DH along for bubbles... I don't think that's what they intended with their crafty marketing ploy!

I have been quite a cheapskate planner too... I just got a copy of the Entertainer from Ebay. I know the voucher thing can be positively cringesome but I reckon we can hugely cut our holiday expenses by using it (more money for jewellery the baby fund!) I don't plan to be extravagant out there but most of the Westins and Minas restaurants are covered by it.

Yey for Blackkat's Dad! It can be such an emotional rollercoaster but any little positive steps are massive leaps on the road to recovery. Was in your shoes for 5 years Blackkat so always here for you.

Right - off to buy a birthday card and a Pret-a-Manger tuna baguette xx

tiggersreturn · 07/06/2011 13:07

Collie - it is a good idea to have your notification of your pg in writing at work e.g. email to HR cc line manager. This will then give you protection from any pg related discrimination. Also your employer may have certain processes to put in place which come through HR eg work station assessment and other guidance.

CollieandPup · 07/06/2011 13:32

lara I don?t have to hand my forms in until 28 days before my due date Shock although clearly I expect they will want it earlier than that!

It says I must notify my manager that I am pregnant no later than 15 weeks before my due date ? so 25 weeks. Doesn?t say I have to write a letter ? think I read that on another thread and assumed it was standard. Thank goodness, it was hard enough telling people, let alone writing a formal letter about it!

Says I?m entitled to ?time off with pay to attend routine clinics, exceptional visits to hospital/clinics and up to four visits to ante natal relaxation classes?. Are ante natal relaxation classes difference to normal ante natal classes? If so, what are they? And do my ante natal classes fall under ?routine clinics??? Confused

Oh, just read tiggers post ? doh. You know I really should know this stuff as its practically part of my job!! ? the discrimination stuff not HR. Good point, not that I?m worried about my manager, I expect he?ll be off soon like my last manager ? sinking ship springs to mind!

blackkat I?ve printed the policy off so can refer to it at home. Only every had a covert quick look at it.

wombatinwaiting · 07/06/2011 13:57

Welcome willitbe and everything crossed for you that this one's a sticker - what a rollercoaster you must have been on. Your determination and positivity is admirable - good luck to you.

Yoo hoo collie - have never tried alcohol free wine on the back of everyone's comments saying it's revolting, perhaps bubbles may be different though! Good going on the shopping too!

No cheapskate at all lara - we use it as often as we can remember to. Will have a flick through and see if there are any others I can recommend in there not too far from your place.

LaraMi · 07/06/2011 14:05

Welcome Wilitbe - we had a xpost before. Good to see you on our growing list. This is a good luck thread BTW!

Please have a look at the Entertainer, Wiw and let me know of anywhere you recommend! I got the Family one (as it seemed to have the broadest coverage). Am longing to eat Cinnabuns... (worth coming just for those).

Collie - am sure you look pg, not fat. Dress sounds lovely and summery (maybe it will make summer come back). Following the right protocol at work will not jinx your pg - remember, we're immune from it here. Something to do with Blackkat's Zen influence.

Resisted the temptation to buy chocolate covered raisins to have with my tuna baguette. Now wondering what on earth I can graze on this afternoon.

tiggersreturn · 07/06/2011 14:20

Collie - the policy you're referring to is maternity pay related and is about giving in your MATB1 which you'll only get at that point. If you don't tell work by the time you're 25 weeks you're not eligible for maternity pay.

harassedinherpants · 07/06/2011 15:54

Ouch I've got mouth ulcers!!

Well two little sore bits on my tongue and a proper one coming under my tongue. I only get them when tired and run down normally! Can I just use my normal stuff to do you think? Bonjela gel and Corsodyl mouthwash??

Blackkat · 07/06/2011 17:18

Welcome to the freak out room willitbe WIW is spot on, your determination and positivity are incredible, all crossed that you have an uneventful next 8 months.

Collie the day uniform is not that nice, and the stuff they wear into jobs he's not allowed to bring home, incase there are any nasties on it, their rules not mine. I am proud of him and his watch though. Smile.

lara we are twins, I asked exactly the same question. Apparently, when it gets to due date, they have a spare on the watch who can take over should he need to leave in a rush, and, if we lived in his area he could come to the hospital on a blue light run (I think he's making that bit up!)

Thanks for good wishes about Dad.

Harassed ooh mouth ulcers, nasty. I'm sure that bonjela must be ok, given you can give it to kids? Hope someone with more knowledge than me comes along.

Onions hope all went well today?

to everyone else
