This is a continuation of the "More ongoing and continuing conceptions and follicling ahead of Feisty, Fabulous Forty somethings"

I thought I would keep the title short as there are so many long ones out there.

I thought I would start the new thread so that you don't forget me Grin

I think it's a bit borderline muchlove. It shows that ov has occurred, but not necessarily enough to maintain a pregnancy.

curly you can start taking your temp whenever you want. If you look at fertility friend (the website) you input your temperature every day. You need to do it several days in a row before ovulation though because it is a 0.2 degree rise (or something) that indicates ovulation. and then you have to carry on temping because the rise has to be sustained for 3 days. It wouldn't really matter if you started on cd2 or 3 then.

(cd 1 is the first day of heavy bleeding iirc - spotting etc is still from the last cycle).

muchlove · 02/02/2011 14:06

Okay CURLY sit yourself down and I will begin....
A good way of keeping track of your cycles is to join Fertility Friend.com.....it is an American site that you pay for I think it costs about £16 for a 6mnth membership and that gives you access to all the forums and you get a special guide on the best way to track your Cycle/fertility.....
Otherwise you can look online for temp (fertility tracking) charts and print them off..... Use a digital thermometer (infact boots do a thermometer and charts in a pack I think its called the fertility pack or something ???
You don't have to temp from CD1 I use to but of late only start after AF has finished.
Take your temperature on waking (yeah here's the tricky bit) before getting out of bed and before drinking or eating AND it must be after 3-4 hours of uninterupted sleepHmm mark this time down on your chart by a dot if you are using a paper one or do it online on the above site.
Also mark down the length of AF and if Heavy, Medium, LIght or spotting.
Then mark down the changes in CM (cervical mucus) through the month ie Dry, sticky, EWCM, watery and creamy.
Mark down all positives on OPKs if you use them.
At some point in the cycle you should notice a temp shift (all explained and done for you on the above mentioned site) and once those temps stay elevated you then know you have OVd.
The second part of the cycle known as the Luteal Phase should show high temps for between 12-16 days which usually start to fall when AF is happening or stay elevated if you are PGnt.
I know it all sounds confusing but if you get on with temping it really can give YOU a good window on seeing what is happening in your cycles. I have temped from the beginning of TTC which is nearly 2yrs now and it has worked well for me and shown my cycles to be regular and normal (until now) but there are some it doesn't work for and as BB says can drive you mad and interrupt your sleep and sometimes if your ill or had a night drinking that can show false high temps the next day. Sometimes even having a lie in at weekend can give a higher temp reading. Its just a case of trying it out and seeing if it works for you...

And so the lesson ends I hope that was helpful.... but Im afraid im such a slow typer that there have probably been loadsa replies since you asked .......Grin

muchlove · 02/02/2011 14:23

Hmm see what you mean BB but you know there are still debates as to whether Prog does sustain a PGncy or not. It for certain won't keep a PGncy that is not viable going but yes it can help bumpf up what you already have if the PGncy is good. So as a precaution it is good to take it and I think it is fine if you only started 7days after OV. Yes it will be a bugbear to have to take it for 12weeks if you are PG as it does heighten all PGncy symptoms....nausea...sore boobs....etc and yes its bloody messy aswell. I though last month I would try it in the back passage Shock to save on mess and it gave me terrible wind and messed my tummy up !!!! What a nightmare it all is eh? ....All in pursuit of the 'GOLDEN EGG'....Fingers crossed for you and toes ....xxx

BeattieBow · 02/02/2011 14:28

I think I think that it will boose womb lining at this stage - I think mine is pretty crap normally as I sometimes have a very light period that only lasts 1-2 days. So my thinking is that it if makes the womb lining thick that is good. The consultant says it won't make me pg if I'm not - so my period will turn up anyway. if I do get pg, I know that it won't necessarily ensure that the pregnancy is successful. I just want to get to the stage where I have a pregnancy that sticks - I have had 2 or 3 cps in the last few months that I know of, so I suspected that progesterone was the issue for me.

I am so itching to test tomorrow, but know that it is still too early!

Oh and back passage muchlove ! I did that yesterday - really wasn't pleasant. Would rather put up with the seepage from the front than have to go through that again (and I was at work too!!). urgh.

Curlylox · 02/02/2011 14:31

Thank you much and bb, will copy and paste your info then print it off to read on the commute home this evening. bb where/how does the Clearblue fertilty monitor factor in with temping and please would you advise cheapest place to purchase it and the "sticks"??

BeattieBow · 02/02/2011 14:36

The cbfm doesn't fit in particularly - you poas for a few days each month and it tells you when you have low, high or peak fertility. Peak means that you will ovulate in the next 12-36 hours. but swi on high days is also good. I just did it so I knew in advance which days would be good to swi on. Of course that brings its own pressures as you feel shitty if you don't swi on a peak day!

It is expensive and so are the sticks. I blithely thought I'd only need mine for a few months and then I'd ebay it. ha! I got mine (full price) at Boots, but I think they are cheaper on Amazon. and also probably on ebay.

Have you been to see your GP yet curly? You can get some tests done pretty quickly which tell you if you've got hormonal problems etc.

hippychick66 · 02/02/2011 15:02

curly how feckin' cruel of mother nature. I think it's worse when you have begun to convince yourself that you may have succeeded. Hoping the temping works for you. DON'T FORGET TO COLLECT THE PRINTED PAPERS FROM THE PRINTER AT WORK Wink We don't want anyone else reading that. Thinking of you, sweetie.

BB Sorry to see that today is the anniversary of your MMC. Mine is coming up soon (as you say, where has that year gone?) I am also about to pass the due date for the pregnancy we lost last June - ahhh so many dates to get past on this thread. Sad Thinking of you today and hoping you're lucky this month. The only thing I think about the anniversary of our MMC's is that at least we are not having to go through it today (IYSWIM) I am sooo glad I'm not having to go in for the EPRC today - that's the only way I can look at it - does that make sense?

muchlove I know what you mean, my mum went through 'the change' in early 40's and I feel it all hovering round the corner and think - I'M NOT READY. I completely get what you're saying, lovie.

Glad I'm not the only chav on here Grin

I think I am gonna be out for this month too. Despite my boobs killing me I did have a spot of blood earlier and as much as I try to convince myself it's implantation I have to say that my AF usually does start with a one of spot followed a couple of days later by the full show. Still I will get some lovely cycle buddies if this is AF Smile

I propose a huge piss up in Diege's Bistro tonight!

hippychick66 · 02/02/2011 15:47

I hope so Louise! Yes, let Feb be the month of the Snug Babies. Two of my dcs were conceived in Feb, so as dh says it may be our lucky month.
The mid-week 'annex' bistro is officially open with a range of beverages, alco and non, to suit all tastes and pockets. Snacks are later (served on those dimpled brass bar tables but are the 'lite bite' sort so things like posh toasties, dips, (non-posh) dorritos, (posh) oat cakes, oh and a huge selection of recently defrosted Iceland choc eclairs and cream slices. Will that do yer demanding lot? Wink
