Thread 6 - the one with Otis and the Christmas miracle

Reastie · 18/10/2024 12:51

@Cupofteaandbiscuits and @NewtyCutey loved the happy reunited story with Otis.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

In Home Bargains yesterday I picked up a National Geographic Break Open Geodes Kit for about £3 - ideal for my 9yo boy who loves rocks. Does anyone have suggestions for diy beauty advent calendar fillers for my 12yo daughter? She likes the usual brands for that age group but I’d also like some smaller (cheaper!) things to bulk it up!

Primark is my go to for cheap beauty advent fillers for this age!

I have a 15% code for Adidas if helpful to anyone (I think single use)

This thread is so dangerous, thanks to all posters with the amazing bargains. I am now the proud owner of a cuisinart hand blender I didn't even know I needed! Flowers

If you can pop into a Poundland, they used to have good make up bargains for a pound. Over the years I’ve picked up all sorts of things from brands like Max Factor, Rimmel, Maybelline, Sally Hansen, Nails Inc, Calvin Klein, Burt Bees coloured lipsalves and more. There’s usually plenty of nail varnish, lipstick, eye shadows and more - you won’t find a good set of everything every time you go but if you’re able to pop in on a regular basis you should manage to pick up a good selection of bits for a lot less than buying them at the supermarket or chemist.
They also used to have decent clear acrylic make up tidier things - so some that would be just for lipsticks or eyeliner/mascara etc whereas others were more generic. Again very handy for having on a shelf or dressing table or in a bathroom, to have all your make up out and to hand.
I don’t get to the shops in person much these days so they might be a bit more than a pound now, but definitely cheaper than buying full price!

My daughter is the same age. Revolution have a good sale on at the moment. She also loves primark for beauty stuff, the fake nails, lip oil, lip balms, lip glosses, face masks, scrunchies, hair clips. Hand cream, micellar water and reusable make up pads.

I got nail stickers from shein for her which are good! Aswell as hair accessories. I got some styling tools too.

How about some jewellery? My dd likes shein or claires (when they have sales!) She likes the elasticated chokers (amazon do a big pack!), rings, cute studs/hoops, crystal bracelets.

Small hairbrush for her school bag? Little make up pouch for her school bag, dd also uses for emergency supplies and painkillers.

Pin badges for her bag/jacket? I get all dds from temu or I make them.

Small foldable bag/tote for going shopping. Primark had some nice ones for about £2.

SootspriteSearcher · 24/10/2024 09:50

I just want to say thanks for all the bargains! I got the exploding minions, benefit mascara and a lovely name necklace from etsy (wouldn't have thought to look but dd is going to love it as she really liked Rachel's on glee!)

I finally have a bargain to contribute a tresemme hairdryer for £7.79
TRESemme 2000W Fast Hair Dryer, super compact, ultra lightweight, Black amzn.eu/d/au5a1Cz hairdryer

Just had an email from Clare's - £10 off a £30 spend with code HOT10 online or in-store, looks like it can be stacked with other codes too.

I’ve been trying to stack with the 15% flash sale or my £5 rewards and it isn’t working with either so I’ve emailed them awaiting a response!

How it works is a good science type magazine for kids 8 and over (ish). Looks like there is an offer where you get free earphones on a £50 spend too so could give that as an extra gift Magazines Direct maybe.

Edited to say that was for @Yeknom

Found a vinyl cleaning kit on Amazon. It was just over £6 by the time I added the voucher. Hopefully good for a stocking filler.

Thank you for advice regarding the Sonic Werehog figure. I've never heard of jazzware so no idea they were that expensive! I also didn't realise that sonic collectibles were a thing! I know I sound daft and naive, but I didn't realise they had that much monetary value!
Thank you for informing me though, I really appreciate it! He's not a fan of cuddly toys but I may have to explain that Santa and his elves only have the materials to make a plush and not a plastic figure!

I know far too much about sonic figures - it's DS1's obsession and I was horrified at the amount some of the figures he wanted to buy were considering they were secondhand. It's his dream to walk in to a charity shop and find a bundle of Sonic Jazwares but I don't see it happening😂

£4.60 for this Optimus prime figure, about what transformers are actually worth in my opinion. Normal Price for those little figures is bonkers
