Thread 6 - the one with Otis and the Christmas miracle

Reastie · 18/10/2024 12:51

@Cupofteaandbiscuits and @NewtyCutey loved the happy reunited story with Otis.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Thank you for advice regarding the Sonic Werehog figure. I've never heard of jazzware so no idea they were that expensive! I also didn't realise that sonic collectibles were a thing! I know I sound daft and naive, but I didn't realise they had that much monetary value!
Thank you for informing me though, I really appreciate it! He's not a fan of cuddly toys but I may have to explain that Santa and his elves only have the materials to make a plush and not a plastic figure!

@wholetthedogsoutwhowhowho
There is this set of little figures which includes the werehog which may work.
I have attached a screenshot as I can't do the clicky links.

Any offers on

A heated throw

Sol de janiero bum bum cream

Milkshake hair products

Heated throws - there was a deal on at Boots, it’s expired now but worth keeping an eye out in case they do the offer again around Black Friday.

SDJ cream - Notino or try Vinted/eBay as lots of people sell off unwanted advent calendar products and this seems to be in a lot of calendars.

Milkshake hair products - Notino, or Amazon

If you’re not familiar with Notino, it was recommended on here last year and I’ve ordered a few things since, including the milkshake products. They often have special offers on

For some reason my nephew is obsessed with Ant and Dec, if you also have a weird child in your family, their Propa Happy book is only £1.22 on amazon

PosyStarling · 24/10/2024 00:17

Turtle Doves have some cashmere fingerless gloves and wrist warmers for £20 each

If anyone sees an offer on the new Wicked nail polishes, that would be much appreciated... I'm considering the Mini 12 pack which looks great, but doesn't contain Thrillifying, which is the one I really need as a present for a dear friend. OPI Infinite Shine - Longwear Gel-Like Nail Polish - Thrillifying! - 15ml - Boots do have it on special offer, but of course it's out of stock online and not available in any stores near me!

Evening all, rather than physical gifts I was wondering about a subscription. Does anyone have any good recommendations for magazine/comic subscription for my godchildren? A boy of six and a girl of ten? Thanks in advance.

Aquila is very good, wholesome and interesting in a fun way!

For those interested in the Lucy and Yak offer I have also popped a link in the referrals thread for 25% off a first order (can always put a different email address)

not especially Christmassy but incredibly useful - Amazon currently have a Bosch drill set with 2 batteries for £79.99 down from £119.99.

I think Amazon might be having a DIY sale! I got my brother for secret Santa this year and I’ve just got him some Dewalt safety glasses for £1.70 (RRP £5.71) and a construction pencil for £8.80 (RRP £17.28) from there. They also had other sets like Dewalt drill bits, power tools, etc on offer.

Disneyland2022 · 24/10/2024 05:51

Rakuten cash back site are offering £25 back on a £30 spend. Just used this offer to purchase one of those kids foot spa DD is asking for 🙄
£5 is better than £30 👏
I’ve made a post with my referral code 🙏🏻 x

Debenhams have the OPI Thrillifying in stock. I've managed to add it to my basket. A few £ more than Boots but with 20% off still.

@Yeknom DS2 fell in love with the Beano when he was about 6 or 7 - to the point that he it was pretty much all he read going through junior school until he got to about 13.
He’s also dyslexic and dyspraxic and ended up doing really well in both his English lit and lang GCSE’s, all from a ‘diet’ of only reading the Beano!
Keep an eye out on their website - they often run special offers.

FiddlefigOnTheRoof · 24/10/2024 07:27

Yes to all the PP who said Phoenix magazine for kids. My children love it. It’s surprisingly educational!

What age would you think this would be suitable for?

Thinking for my nephews who love reading!

Jacques London have sent me a code BIGGIFT25 for25% off sitewide. Looks like a totally generic code but hope it helps someone!

In Home Bargains yesterday I picked up a National Geographic Break Open Geodes Kit for about £3 - ideal for my 9yo boy who loves rocks. Does anyone have suggestions for diy beauty advent calendar fillers for my 12yo daughter? She likes the usual brands for that age group but I’d also like some smaller (cheaper!) things to bulk it up!

The Beano often do offers and is good for most ages.

Mine also loved The Week Junior s they got a bit older. News and articles but more like Newsround was - animals and things rather than all heavy stuff.

Haunted House by Jan Pienkowski pop-up book is 57% off for £7.70 on Amazon today. Lovely book from my childhood. Great for an older child or adult with a gothic streak.

Now there’s a blast from the past! Still the same price by the way.

Just had an email from Clare's - £10 off a £30 spend with code HOT10 online or in-store, looks like it can be stacked with other codes too.
