Thread 4 - the one with our Guylian best before fate

Reastie · 05/10/2024 19:23

It was a toughie to pick the thread title this time!
Thanks to @RainbowZebraWarrior for the title Xmas Grin For those interested, our fate is best before June of next year and the offer was regarding Guylian choices at B&M.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

For those with older Hello Kitty fans I spotted quite a lot of HK skinny dip stuff in TK Maxx today - still not cheap but might be good for an add on present.

RudolphsDashing · 10/10/2024 16:37

@mickandrorty you've had some great suggestions, but please don't buy period pants. You have no idea of the girls size, flow etc.

However I definitely agree with star spot stickers, deodorant, a nice spray, dry shampoo, etc.

Are the Laithwaite’s wines any good? Saw a few deals on and wondering if they are drinkable ?

Also if you collect Avios look at BA wine flyer. This is actually laithwaites, they usually have some good sign up deals and the same boxes you get direct

No idea for main present but at that age I did things like sweatshirt / hoodie, Calvin Klein boxers, body sprays / fragrance dupes, sweets, tray of cans of pop, gaming bits, sports socks, sports tops - he was / is sport mad, a book and rechargeable batteries - maybe some ideas you could use

Is there a christmas gift list app that can be disguised or password protected? My kids sometimes play games on my phone and like to check out any new app that's been put on!

Sarah Raven 25% off code if anyone wants it. Think it's a one time code

If you can brave the horror of the Boots website, they have a Mario Badescu set on star gifts for £24.95. The drying lotion is full size and is worth about a tenner ( their price for this by itself us very high) and so is the silver powder. I haven't looked at the other products but it looks like a good teen skincare product. I've got one for both my teens.

mickandrorty · 10/10/2024 17:04

Thank you so much for all the suggestions, there was lots of bits I would never have thought of.

marshmallowmix · 10/10/2024 17:09

I got some of the seashells chocs from Lidl today are they any good?? If so I may scoff the lot ....😉

DressOrSkirt · 10/10/2024 17:17

A warning to those ordering Lucy & Yaks: they are addictive!!
This time last year I didn't own any...I now have 5 pairs, and 2 more on the way from their sale!

I don’t know why this never occurred to me before, but for M&S I got so frustrated at the rubbish SPARKS offers that I created a new account. And straight away I have better offers on that one (10% off clothing and homeware).

I think I might just keep 2-3 on the go and use whichever has the best offers at the time.

You're a genius, never occurred to me either 🤦‍♀️. Thank you for the 10% off the pair of jeans I've been refusing to buy full price!

Sorry to pester with questions on gift list apps. I have Gift List which I've used for years (and love being able to see what I've bought before!) BUT the one thing I hate about it is that unless I've spent the full budget, it doesn't go green.
Not sure I can explain what I mean but say I have MIL listed, with a budget of £30, but then manage to find something great half price for £15, she would still be shown as "red" and look like I've not finished. What I really want is an app that lets me tick 'completed' and ideally then adds up how much I've saved 😁 Realise I might be asking for the world there though...
Do any of the other apps people have mentioned do this?

Yes, Santa’s bag lets you do this - tick to complete, and view actual spend v budget.

hby9628 · 10/10/2024 17:54

@MissAnnThropeofYorkshire yes they are. I got them when they went on offer at boots last week but they are cheaper on Amazon. I've not used them as they are a gift but my hairdresser recommended them when I asked her which to buy for my DD

You can password protect the Gift List app.

Another thing to tick off please - can I have your recommendations for a good frying pan please, described by DH as 'a posh non-teflon one' ?!

Also delighted with my whistlefish order that came through today. OHS heated blanket came yesterday and is great.

I like the green steel brand ceramic ones

Topcashback still have 10% cashback on toy purchases with Very, and Very's sale is still on, so this gives better prices on some Lego sets than I've seen anywhere else, with free Click & Collect over £30...

eg. Lego Dreamzzz Mateo & Z Blob the Knight Battle Mech: reduced from £115 to £84 in the sale, plus 10% cashback.

BoilingHotand50something · 10/10/2024 20:39

@oriel2013 not a bargain, but my DH loves cooking in the Ninja Possible Pan but if you don’t need the steamer bit, the saute pan looks similar.
