Thread 4 - the one with our Guylian best before fate

Reastie · 05/10/2024 19:23

It was a toughie to pick the thread title this time!
Thanks to @RainbowZebraWarrior for the title Xmas Grin For those interested, our fate is best before June of next year and the offer was regarding Guylian choices at B&M.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Has anyone bought from Bohomoon before? I have a few young teen girls to buy for and they seem to have some pretty nice stuff but I've never heard of them before

Yes, many times. If you search for gift bag you can add on a nice presentation bag for £1 which is nicer when gift giving.

STom2 · 10/10/2024 09:23

Went to check out Aldi wooden toy sale. Informed they are food only (despite it being quite a big Aldi) and the nearest one with wooden toys is over an hour walk away. No thanks 😂 Will take chances with Lidl again next week as I got some good bits there last year. Mangaged to spend £25 on Halloween and Christmas sweets while in there so a fail all round really. 😂

What's the best way to get an ASOS discount?

I'm only buying one thing, not in the sale. No students in the house and none of the codes I can find on Google seem to work,

Does anyone have a code or any tips please? 🤞

Not sure any of these will work but try the codes STYLES or Drop or LCTB or HIFRIEND This last code is for new users so you might need to use a new email address If you’ve previously ordered from them.

Flourshiba · 10/10/2024 09:38

Apologies if this has already been mentioned upthread

But on the m&s website in the clearance section if you sort from price low to high they have hype reusable water bottles reduced from £17.99 to £6.00

These are useful stocking fillers, but also make good birthday gifts

Favouritefruits · 10/10/2024 09:44

@Flourshiba just a FYI those water bottles are not suitable for the dishwasher! I ruined the kids ones on the first day back at school 🫣

Thanks for the heads up! I would probably have done the same 🤣

I need one of these too! Also for DH!

For good pans, I love Le Creuset.

I noticed yesterday, that Amazon had some great discounts on Le Creuset so I went a bit mad discounts are still showing today. I've checked the prices against the Le Creuset website and the likes of John Lewis. They are genuinely good deals.

Link to one of their signature skillet frying pans with a 'helping handle' (makes a big difference when lifting) It's down from £155 to £95

Good grief - Aldi was chaos this morning! The caterpillar cakes and kitchens were disappearing very quickly

Aldi have little pots of chocolate snowmen, Christmas bears and Father Christmas - conveniently 25 in each, so good for advent calendars. They were £3.29 each I think.

Thank you for this, I’m off to aldi this morning so will pick these up. Need something to fill an advent calendar and I was looking at lindt mini bears but would have cost me about 15 quid for 24 of them!

First post in here but been lurking since last Christmas (never stolen a code though, I promise!) you ladies save Christmas! Hopefully I will stumble across a deal to share with you all at some point 🤞🏻

Thank you to the person who recommended the Cashmere fingerless gloves from tazzie. They are absolutely beautiful and the seller was so friendly ❤️ they also come nicely packed and make a wonderful present.

That was me. I check her items around once a week and I've just noticed today thats she's now selling some lovely cashmere head bands for £12 so I've ordered one of those to go with the gloves and cowl I already have.

Did anyone find the Prime days underwhelming this time? Nothing that I wanted/needed!

I was happy with my haul. The Melissa and Doug ice cream set (I needed 2), a headset and a mic for teen DS- both the cheapest they'd ever been, according to camelcamelcamel- the headset was £69 from £149.

Justkeepsmilingx · 10/10/2024 10:32

Not a bargain - but Christmas related. Can anyone recommend a good (free please) app to keep track of what I’ve bought present wise and for who ? I’ve tried two and I’ve found them hard work not easy to use and gone back to notebook and pen…..but I need to go with the times and give my head a wobble and get something that’s on my phone really (trying not to be a dinosaur 🦕 although I am probably more the shape of this one 🦖)

thanks

I've used Gift list for many years, like that I can see what I've bought previous years too

Felith · 10/10/2024 10:54

@Bumblebeesince19 @Annie1290 do you actually mean a Nespresso or a pod coffee machine or coffee machine in general? I've gone through some of the options below.

Just in case you mean coffee machine in general I would suggest Delonghi or Tassimo and get one that's compatible with standard pods as vertuo are a pain to get hold of. I bought one quite cheaply from Argos a few years back but they are always on offer including for £1 with a subscription. This is cheapest upfront but pods aren't cheap.

However, you could also go for a bean to cup machine in which case Delonghi is good too and often does deals on eBay with refurbished ones from I think AO. Sage is nice for the experience as there's one that does press a button coffee or massive faff coffee depending on what you fancy. I found some good deals in Currys but would suggest a great place to look and feel but avoid like the plague for buying because customer service is shocking if something goes wrong. This is more expensive upfront but you're not then tied to a specific brand of bean so cheaper in the long term.

For the true coffee conneiseur I've also been recommended a Rok coffee machine which looks beautiful and apparently makes lovely coffee but you'll also need to get a burr grinder, milk frother, and then increasingly complicated and pretentious accessories and beans because by that point great but increasingly inconvenient coffee has become part of his identity. There are some reduced on their site currently. The advantage to this is your DH is now the designated coffee maker because no one else will be allowed to touch it, and he'll probably take it in the eventual divorce because he now loves coffee more than you. You can then start your new life with a bean to cup machine.

Great to find another Tazzie fan on here - my second delivery arrived yesterday as lovely as the first.... Thank you @RainbowZebraWarrior for the recommendation.

I got a text from Hotel Chocolat saying I could save up to £20 using the code XMAS-DGIA . I haven't looked at the offer, but thought it may be useful to someone!

Solmum1964 · 10/10/2024 11:03

@Flubadubba I bought a few bits on Prime days. A couple of small bits I had saved for later were reduced by a couple of pounds each. Then I saved about a third on a Ryobi multi-tool and about £10 on L'Occitane shower gel and body lotion.
All things I would have bought anyway so good to save some money.
I try to work on the principle that sales prices are only a good deal if it was something I was going to buy at full price!

Thanks. Have downloaded it and will give it a go x

mickandrorty · 10/10/2024 11:20

Sorry hope its ok to ask on here, l just after some advice I have picked up some dunelm tickets for gifts and one of them is a teenage girl who would like bath stuff and hygiene products, I'm covered on the bath stuff but I'm wondering on the hygiene? In my mind that's deodorant, toothpaste etc. I don't want to get it wrong I want to put her together something she will really like. If anyone could give me any ideas I would be really grateful.

Loulouli · 10/10/2024 11:24

Someone asked about sending flowers earlier. I had a discount code in my email today from bloom and wild. Seems to be a generic one. Just posting it in case someone can make use of it: Take 20% off birthday flowers, plants and gifts with code C779C

redjoker · 10/10/2024 11:36

Some really nice gift sets in boots I thought the Radley bag would make a good gift!

Went to Aldi a little while ago, most of the '"big ticket" items were gone, there was only one birthday cake, some macaroons and a few small grocery sets left. No signs of the caterpillar cake or such like. I did get a wooden washing machine which I'm pleased with as my 2yo will very much enjoy putting dolly's clothes in it, and for £20 I think it was very good value. The aisles were still very busy with disappointed looking people though so can't imagine the carnage at opening time this morning
