Thread 4 - the one with our Guylian best before fate

It was a toughie to pick the thread title this time!
Thanks to @RainbowZebraWarrior for the title Xmas Grin For those interested, our fate is best before June of next year and the offer was regarding Guylian choices at B&M.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

@Qwerty21 yup, some caterpillars and carrot cakes on there already at £20 minus fees and postage...

It really boils my pee. Spoiling it for the rest of us.

YeahWellWhyNot · 10/10/2024 12:58

Well someone's listed the kitchen for £200.... Lots and lots of the wooden stuff on there. So frustrating.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 10/10/2024 12:59

Wow thats terrible.

Dramallama24 · 10/10/2024 13:04

Went to aldi this morning, it was busy but lots there, was tempted to get everything happily found the catapillar cake I was after and left without breaking the bank.

hope everyone finds what they are looking for!

issantahereyet · 10/10/2024 13:05

Ohhh I'm so glad I managed to get a Cuthbert, I refused to pay the absurd amount people were charging last year, a shame they're doing it again 🙁

A heads up for anyone with little Bluey fans in the family and hasn't been able to get one yet, I've just seen a tiktok video saying that the chair will be back in November!

Also, if anyone is struggling to get anything from Aldi, there are a few Vinted groups with people willing to hunt for you (some may add on a small fee for going but it's much better than paying £30 more than it's worth)

Thanks. We actually have an old Tassimo that's just died, prompting the Nespresso talk. The Tassimo we have is exclusively Tassimo branded pods and I don't want that again because they're now expensive. I don't drink coffee and refuse to make it unless it's a pod or instant 😂 plus for ease as DH does most of the school runs in a hurry, he suggested a Nespresso.

Sounds like I either want a subscription to a Vertuo or a Original that I can buy generic pods for?

I have my eye on a Sage for DH's big birthday next December I think.

Aldi do one that uses both nespresso (original, so anny generic) and dulcio gusso (or however you spell that make!) pods. So you get the great coffee as well as all the interesting hot chocolate ones.

i think Lakeland did a combined one too.

Found these cute little jellycat-like plushes in One Beyond for £2.99 each! They’re called Softling Foodies and they’re lovely and soft.

Im sure someone asked on here about TU sale?! I’ve just seen it’s the 18-20th October x

CarrotsInTheMist · 10/10/2024 13:19

Another that did aldi first thing this morning, a really small store so surprised at pp saying theirs didn't do toys. There was a queue outside about 10 minutes before it opened, kitchens were gone by 9am but lots of smaller sets left. So many blokes on phones looking frazzled.

My friend has just found me a Cuthbert at her local Aldi. She lives in a slightly rough area, maybe that's the key to finding one still? Not being judgemental, my area isn't fab either, but the Aldi nearest to me is in a better area. As are the others I know people haven't been able to find what they wanted

@Bumblebeesince19 @Annie1290 do you actually mean a Nespresso or a pod coffee machine or coffee machine in general? I've gone through some of the options below.

Just in case you mean coffee machine in general I would suggest Delonghi or Tassimo and get one that's compatible with standard pods as vertuo are a pain to get hold of. I bought one quite cheaply from Argos a few years back but they are always on offer including for £1 with a subscription. This is cheapest upfront but pods aren't cheap.

However, you could also go for a bean to cup machine in which case Delonghi is good too and often does deals on eBay with refurbished ones from I think AO. Sage is nice for the experience as there's one that does press a button coffee or massive faff coffee depending on what you fancy. I found some good deals in Currys but would suggest a great place to look and feel but avoid like the plague for buying because customer service is shocking if something goes wrong. This is more expensive upfront but you're not then tied to a specific brand of bean so cheaper in the long term.

For the true coffee conneiseur I've also been recommended a Rok coffee machine which looks beautiful and apparently makes lovely coffee but you'll also need to get a burr grinder, milk frother, and then increasingly complicated and pretentious accessories and beans because by that point great but increasingly inconvenient coffee has become part of his identity. There are some reduced on their site currently. The advantage to this is your DH is now the designated coffee maker because no one else will be allowed to touch it, and he'll probably take it in the eventual divorce because he now loves coffee more than you. You can then start your new life with a bean to cup machine.

Ah so you’ve met my ex- !
I drink Tesco’s instant now - revenge is insipid sweet

Babynumberthreeee · 10/10/2024 13:39

In regards to aldi there was loads at our store this morning (went after school run so wasn't queueing before opening!)

I did get 2 carrot cakes for friends who then decided they want the sprinkle cakes , if anyone missed out I'm happy to post them for the amount I paid plus postage, not trying to make money out of people. Otherwise I'll be returning them!

LemonTurdCart · 10/10/2024 13:40

Paddy & Scotts who we’ve all had coffee Black Friday deals from the last couple of years, do compostable coffee pods that are compatible with Nespresso original machines.
Bought some last year and they were well received

The Remington shine straightners have dropped to £23.65 on a prime day deal.

Are these meant to be good?

I have these and have gifted them a few times too, always happily received and have had great feedback on them!

You're welcome! Also I don't know whether I just got lucky with mine, but they've been pretty robust too! My two year old has recently taken a shine to them (just to clarify: unplugged and not the slightest bit warm!) and he's as heavy handed as you'd expect a toddler to be. Still going strong 😁

DrLucyVanPelt · 10/10/2024 14:14

Got my Solace earring order today and a bit miffed. Ordered x2 of the silver bundle and have ended up 2 each of the same design rather than 6 different ones. On checking it does say there might be duplicates with multiple bundles but all identical is disappointing!

OatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 10/10/2024 14:17

Harry Potter kinder things are in my local co op too for those looking, 90p each.

Not a bargain - but Christmas related. Can anyone recommend a good (free please) app to keep track of what I’ve bought present wise and for who ? I’ve tried two and I’ve found them hard work not easy to use and gone back to notebook and pen…..but I need to go with the times and give my head a wobble and get something that’s on my phone really (trying not to be a dinosaur 🦕 although I am probably more the shape of this one 🦖)

thanks

I find Christmas Gift List really good. You can add multiple people and multiple strands within people (for example, DD stocking, DD main).

It lets you set a budget, archive (great for knowing what stocking fillers you bought last year!) tick whether it’s an idea, purchased, wrapped and sent too.

Looks like this on the App Store
