I actually have to get a birthday present for a niece whose birthday is the week after Christmas ( and obviously Christmas).
For one I can give money but it doesn't seem right for both being close together .

Shes posh, public school, bright but working as she likes the money and opportunities (lots of connections).

Its very tricky. Best gift was Ray Bans for her 16th ( TK Maxx bargain).

Any suggestions that won't break me?

Find out her favourite brand of toiletries and buy whatever you can afford. Hand cream or lipgloss fine if she loves the brand.

MusicLife80 · 02/10/2024 09:09

Tk Maxx loads in their as you’ve done before, branded jewellery

mushpush · 02/10/2024 09:09

Jellycats are all the rage at the moment - if she likes them, you can get a cute keyring / plush that's adorable but also not mega bucks!

Ditto for if she's into makeup / skincare - some fancy lip products (Dior lip oil and laniege balms are popular now!).

Tom's trunks pj bottoms

TheChosenTwo · 02/10/2024 09:10

Rituals Reed diffuser, I think the mini ones are about £20 ish?

MyOwnToes · 02/10/2024 09:10

Something from Charlotte Tilbury- that’s the brand of make up my v similar sounding DD and her friends like.

If you say a bit more about her interests we could make more personal suggestions. DD loved this book of stickers John Derian Sticker Book (John... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1648291015?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share but another girl might hate it.

MyOwnToes · 02/10/2024 09:12

Dior lip oil and laniege balms are popular now!

Good shout and if you go for Dior you can get it engraved on the website.

Blanketyre · 02/10/2024 09:13

Or yes, jellycats

Sorry Tom's trunks are too ££

AndThereSheGoes · 02/10/2024 09:25

That was quick, thank you!

Useful to know what brands I should look out for. She is proper old school posh (horses and country interests). Into clothes and her looks so Dior sounds like a good shout.

Love that sticker book. She won't but my other niece will.

SleepingisanArt · 02/10/2024 09:42

Order the Dior from their website and you'll also get free gift box (very posh, good quality and embossed), gift card and free samples! Delivery is fast and free.

SweetnsourNZ · 02/10/2024 12:04

What about a nice photo frame. Maybe for a photo of her and horse or best friend.

Mumwithbaggage · 02/10/2024 12:14

I always thought Charlotte Tilbury was a bit bling?? What do I know? Dior I like - my girls would love that!

Pinkmagic1 · 02/10/2024 12:20

Some dainty silver, horse shoe shaped earrings?

GingerKombucha · 02/10/2024 12:33

Chanel nail polish?

Op is on a low/£20 budget. You won't get much from Dior with that.

FranksBank · 02/10/2024 12:52

A nice White Company Candle?

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 02/10/2024 12:59

If she's horsey a LeMeiux ear warmer

MiddleAgedDread · 02/10/2024 13:03

21 and at public school? Maybe a revision guide ;)
I assume you mean former public school? Is she a student or full time employed? She's 21 so an adult not a kid, could you do a combined present for something more expensive if you know it's what she'd like and use?

SailsUp · 02/10/2024 13:12

Something from Lululemon or a voucher?

NeedingCoffee · 02/10/2024 13:26

Ariat tekgrip gloves, ideally the insulated ones in winter. Perfect for anyone horsey and take it from me, you can never have too many pairs.
You will need to find out her actual hand size.

RandomUsernameHere · 02/10/2024 13:32

Agree with something from Le Mieux or Ariat if she likes horses, these brands are popular with the youngsters at the moment. Actually Ariat has always been popular, even when I was your niece's age!

OMGitsnotgood · 02/10/2024 13:37

TKMaxx definitely your friend here. I've had some lovely silky PJs from there in the past

I bought my DD a scarf and glove set from there last year - although I knew that what what she wanted. Could be considered boring by some.

They also do some great jewellery sets that would come within budget.

Shes posh, public school, bright but working

Baffling! I don’t know a single person, young adult or mature, who has attended any public school (even the best known in the country) who isn’t involved in some sort of work - whether employed or self employed, city or farm …

But I am laughing at the £20 silver earrings suggestion …

And you may laugh at my suggestion of whichever slim, newly published volume of poetry seems most unlikely. Something prizewinning from Faber or Carcanet.
