I actually have to get a birthday present for a niece whose birthday is the week after Christmas ( and obviously Christmas).
For one I can give money but it doesn't seem right for both being close together .

Shes posh, public school, bright but working as she likes the money and opportunities (lots of connections).

Its very tricky. Best gift was Ray Bans for her 16th ( TK Maxx bargain).

Any suggestions that won't break me?

I've actually started to dab small amounts behind my ears like you would with perfume now 😂I adore the scent, people can evidently smell it and it's about ten times cheaper than my favourite perfume so I'm calling it a win.

So do I. I love perfumes and have a lot but this one so many people have asked about. Win! Which one is yours?

I agree with Dior lipglow - would be perfect but over budget. How about a fairfax and favour keyring? Or maybe even be able to find a purse or similar brand new on Vinted?

Why are people recommending toys for kids or hand cream for middle aged people 😂

As a middle aged person, I strongly recommend starting to use hand cream asap. It's not just for us oldies, and believe me 'old hands' will sneak up on you sooner than you think if you neglect them.
Funny how people will happily spend a fortune on face moisturiser and body lotion, but scoff at hand cream, yet hands take much more of a battering.

I think a lot of people use their face cream on their hands rather than a separate hand cream

The Dior lip oils are nice but I actually prefer the formula of the Clarins ones and they’re a bit cheaper.

This one! I usually buy it from Amazon actually but it looks to be much cheaper on here (maybe postage is more expensive...)

Just ordered it! 😄

No joke, I've just ordered this because it sounds like a scent my mum would adore - and I'm going to try some for myself after giving it to her 😁sounds lovely from the description!

This was a big hit with my posh niece (22) recently, it's a make up bag

That’s a good shout. Love my flatlay.

A jewellery roll is something I have also wanted for holidays.

Something from Charlotte Tilbury- that’s the brand of make up my v similar sounding DD and her friends like.

If you say a bit more about her interests we could make more personal suggestions. DD loved this book of stickers John Derian Sticker Book (John... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1648291015?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share but another girl might hate it.

Love that sticker book. My dd is an aspiring posh girl and 20. She and all her RG friends do scrapbooking so would love that!

Chanel Rouge Noir Nail polish - the colour is very in right now and if you go to a dept store (try John Lewis) they’ll put it in a nice little Chanel bag for you…

Stewandsocks · 02/10/2024 19:51

I'd get her the new Sally Rooney novel - it's cool, very current, a flattering present, and looks better wrapped up than a single lipstick no matter what the brand is.

NotSersha · 02/10/2024 19:59

I've been in this situation with my horse loving neices!

I ordered some silver horseshoe earrings from an independant silversmith, and they went down so well. I think I paid around £24 for the pair.

I've got a feeling I picked up the details on MN but couldn't swear to it - it was a couple of years ago.

D20 · 02/10/2024 20:00

I love black honey lipstick but I’m mid 40s. A book could be a good shout. My DD likes nice versions of classics. Also love that dainty ring from Etsy - might be a good gift for my teen actually.
