I actually have to get a birthday present for a niece whose birthday is the week after Christmas ( and obviously Christmas).
For one I can give money but it doesn't seem right for both being close together .

Shes posh, public school, bright but working as she likes the money and opportunities (lots of connections).

Its very tricky. Best gift was Ray Bans for her 16th ( TK Maxx bargain).

Any suggestions that won't break me?

The majority of the suggested presents are currently coveted girls 8-12.

No they aren't

SailsUp · 04/10/2024 13:32

Girls 8 years and up on social media are totally beyond their years in terms of consumer interest. In my dc's primary school year 5, there were some girls who'd recognised, asked for and in come case been given many of the things suggested on here. It's quite sad.

Penelope Chilvers or Pickett socks
A vintage RL cable knit sweater
A LeMieux travel cup
A recycled wool picnic blanket
A notebook from Papier (or similar)
Fairfax & Favor boot tassels

I was going to say Chanel nail varnish too. Great stuff.

Space NK is a good bet for quirky brands or a gift voucher.

Cashmere bed socks from The White Co or similar

Handy to know if she's working or a student however well off

So they are beyond their years as you say. That doesn't mean the items suggested are 'for' 8-12 year olds.

My 21 yo ex boarder loves cashmere fingerless gloves - I've bought Turtle Doves in the past but someone on another thread tipped me off about this little business - gloves are lovely and a lot cheaper, postage was very prompt and they arrived beautifully wrapped in tissue and you get to pick the actual gloves you're buying. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?ssPageName=&_ssn=seabeach2012

I've quite enjoyed getting a few ideas for my own kids who are close in age to OP, thanks to all posters!
Thought really can't agree that the majority of suggestions are for girls 8-12, unless they are super grown up

@ramonaquimby great username! What a lovely blast from the past 🙂

I showed my 27 year old niece things from Fable on their website .
They have gorgeous little things, bits of jewellery, scarves , hair ties , decent makeup bags .
She likes animals and horses 🐎 loved the website

I have black honey for night and pink for day. They are in every one of my bags!

StormingNorman · 06/10/2024 10:03

Penelope Chilver do some funky warm fair isle socks for £25. They’re fab with short boots.

It is a classic. I was wearing this as a teenager in the 90s 😂

If your 8 year old wants Dior or Charlotte Tilbury, something has gone awry!

Jo Malone bath oil is gorgeous. I think a small bottle is about £18 but it lasts forever. I ask for it every Xmas.

I can vouch it last for ages. I don't like mine so I put a drop to fragrance the stinky nappy bin, but it never seems to run out and the fragrance is still strong.

Soulou · 06/10/2024 16:17

Jot down some of these ideas, keep an eye for all special offers Boots 3 for 2 on gifts, Star gifts not forgetting black Friday that seems to run most of November

MyOwnToes · 06/10/2024 16:34

I think people are focusing on the “21 years old” not the “posh”, as they should be.
….

Reading that back it’s a bit ambiguous. I mean people are rightly focusing on the 21 years.

Black Honey is a classic. It has been around in one form or another since 1971

I didn’t think it was very good. It’s like a shadow of Dior’s Addict Lip Glow Color-Awakening Lip Balm. Now, that is good (and too expensive)!!

A Byredo Bal D'Afrique hand cream (£35). It's the current trendy brand that's very expensive, very lux but not pretentious or cringy. The creams are the cheapest things in their collection and smell amazing. Bal D'Afrique and Gypsy Water are the two most popular scents that everyone likes. The other ones are a more niche. If you get offered any tester perfumes, ask for Bibliotheque or Vanille Antique and gift them alongside. Both are eye-wateringly expensive but very iconic so most people would be delighted to try them out.
