Tricky posh kid presents preferably under £20 - 21 year old girl.

I actually have to get a birthday present for a niece whose birthday is the week after Christmas ( and obviously Christmas).
For one I can give money but it doesn't seem right for both being close together .

Shes posh, public school, bright but working as she likes the money and opportunities (lots of connections).

Its very tricky. Best gift was Ray Bans for her 16th ( TK Maxx bargain).

Any suggestions that won't break me?

I'd personally get one expensive thing rather than a bunch of stuff. My teenagers and their friends seem into the clique lip balm honey/pink black/ clarins lip balm that's on tik tok. Got my daughter one and she was over the.moon with it.

redwinechocolateandsnacks · 02/10/2024 20:04

Also - the Sally Rooney novel (she reads a lot and loved Normal People) - great ideas.
I have boys not girls..do 20yr old girls genuinely want Dior and Clinique?

32nddalmation · 02/10/2024 20:05

If she likes perfumes you could get her a sample set of some really nice ones. The cheapest ones on this website are about £10 over budget, but I think it's a really fun present, and unlike buying one item of make up or hand cream, if she doesn't like a particular one then it's not a waste.

Thank you again!

I know £20 isn't much hence asking. Obviously not such a problem if you have a bigger budget but it was just if anyone had luck with a similar young woman.

And yes working rather than Uni. I have given jewellery when she was younger but I think she has definite tastes in that area. I think she has lots of practical horse stuff.
She loves Fairfax and Favour but I know she has previously been gifted a pair of boots from them as she looks very glamorous on Insta perched on a tractor.

The flatlay bag is a good idea as is the Black Honey heads up. Sally Rooney might be good too.

I really appreciate all the advice!

My niece prefers pink honey to black honey.

Sephora gift card

hby9628 · 02/10/2024 20:21

@AndThereSheGoes do you know which F&F boots she has? Some of them have tassels that you can change & you can pick them up for less than £20 on their site

GoldenLegend · 02/10/2024 20:43

A book. Hardback, preferably signed by the author.

WonderingAboutThus · 02/10/2024 20:44

The trick to buy fancy/expensive is to think of it as a bonsai gift: it can be smaller (it will have to be smaller to fit the budget!) than what you would usually buy, but it has to stay excellent quality.

So what would you give a non-posh person if you had five euro? Chocolates? A lip balm? A candle?

Give her the same idea but four times better quality/fanciness.

AmeliaEarache · 02/10/2024 20:46

Thank you!

DD was very envious of my Charlotte Tilbury lipstick and tried to convince me she needed to take it to university "as it will get more use if I have it."

This will be perfect for her.

I signed up under a burner email and got 15% off and free P&P

What about a jewellery travel case? I have one from Stackers and I love it. They often have offers on around Black Friday.

A personalised notebook from Papier

This!

They do lovely/cool notebooks. Not too try hard

AndThereSheGoes · 02/10/2024 22:28

I've bought a couple of the Flatlay make up cases from Debenhams as they are 20% off and my friends birthday is in a couple of weeks.
Will give it as a Christmas present to niece to unwrap and then cash for her birthday ( with the Sally Rooney book).

You guys are amazing! Thank you.

This is gonna sound tight but you don't have to get her anything. Just send her a card
Girl probably gets spoiled enough by her parents and clearly doesnt need anything. Plus shes only your niece, not your daughter Grin

Helpful!

Anthropologie has horse themed jewellery at the moment.

Anthropologie has horse themed jewellery at the moment.

Why? Surely no one over 12 could possibly want it?

TheBolterdahling · 03/10/2024 06:10

Came on to say clinque black honey but also she’s 21. I’d just get her something nice for an adult female in accordance with her tastes. I don’t think all the back story was necessary.

MayaPinion · 03/10/2024 07:28

There are lots of nice things in Rituals for around the £20 mark. The foaming shower gel is about £18 and smells wonderful. Alpaca socks are about the same price and also lovely. There are also the gifts much loved by the youngsters and you don't have to stress about being 'posh'- a personalized mug or socks with a photo of her horse on them, a box of retro sweets, a cocktail shaker, something kitsch from Oliver Bonas, a good notebook/journal, a Le Crueset egg cup...etc 😁

What about a nice photo frame. Maybe for a photo of her and horse or best friend.

I got Dior La Privee for a birthday, beautiful presentation which I loved (although I'm a lot older!)

puzzlesandactivediscussions · 03/10/2024 09:17

Glossier is always good , their cloud paint and ultra balm are around the £20 mark.

Sephora gift card

Yes, or this. Mine love Sephora and equally gift cards.

Newposter180 · 03/10/2024 09:53

There are some wild ideas on here - cheap horse jewellery 😵‍💫 This girl has probably been gifted nice jewellery by her parents over the years so I’d go for something small but high quality.
I think the best ideas have been lipgloss/nail polish from Dior, the personalised Papier notebook (they come wrapped beautifully too), Sally Rooney book or cashmere socks.
A couple of other thoughts - Selfridges used to do mini bottles of Moët around this price personalised with a photo which are fun, maybe a hardback coffee table book - eg from a designer like the Tom Ford one, or something like Il Dolce Far Niete. If the budget is really strict, I’d get champagne truffles from Charbonnel et Walker and a very classy card. I think the key is to keep the brand luxurious even if the item is small.

Thanks for this thread, my DNs are hard to buy for and one has a Nov birthday. I am pretty sure I've missed the last one's birthday in April too hangs head in shame.
Those sticker books are perfect, one is into science and one art so I think Victorian botany and just plain Victoriana will do them nicely for Christmas.
