I actually have to get a birthday present for a niece whose birthday is the week after Christmas ( and obviously Christmas).
For one I can give money but it doesn't seem right for both being close together .

Shes posh, public school, bright but working as she likes the money and opportunities (lots of connections).

Its very tricky. Best gift was Ray Bans for her 16th ( TK Maxx bargain).

Any suggestions that won't break me?

This website has some nice horsey jewellery and this one is in your budget.

Have ordered from them and they are really lovely items

I am sorry, but that bracelet is absolutely awful. 😅

Please not a candle or hand cream, I know no one who uses hand cream (evidenced by the dozens donated to every raffle and lucky dip!) and most people who use candles want cheaper than £20 ones.

Think about what she's doing day to day - eg does she travel for work then a travel jewellery roll (£20 gets you one)

I use hand cream a lot, and have an absolute favourite that I re-buy all the time and have had loads of compliments on. A good hand cream is a hidden gem of an item!

OP, how about going the personalised route rather than the brand name, since budget is a consideration?

If you go on Etsy or Not on the Highstreet and look up personalised gifts there are lots of really gorgeous high quality items, and the personalisation makes them feel more special. There will be heaps of horsey themed ones.

CowboyJoanna · 02/10/2024 18:49

This is gonna sound tight but you don't have to get her anything. Just send her a card
Girl probably gets spoiled enough by her parents and clearly doesnt need anything. Plus shes only your niece, not your daughter Grin

Jellycats are all the rage at the moment - if she likes them, you can get a cute keyring / plush that's adorable but also not mega bucks!

Ditto for if she's into makeup / skincare - some fancy lip products (Dior lip oil and laniege balms are popular now!).

She's 21! Don't get her a toy keyring 😂

Posh girls love jellycats.

Please no horse jewellery or hand cream.

Tbh 20 isn't really enough for any kind of decent present these days. You can barely buy a hardback book with 20.

latestnews · 02/10/2024 19:09

I agree. But it’s not Christmas yet so by then it may not be the thing. Have you tried it? Been looking at it for a while.

Blanketyre · 02/10/2024 19:09

Good shout, or the lip oil

latestnews · 02/10/2024 19:10

Just do not buy horse jewellery..

latestnews · 02/10/2024 19:13

I love my pink Dior Addict Lip Glow Color-Awakening Lip Balm so much, this sounds similar but cheaper?

Compliments on a hand cream..?

Compliments on a hand cream..?

Yes - not in a creepy way on the softness of my hands, thankfully 😂but on the scent. I was surprised myself because normally hand creams are very subtly fragranced once they're on, but more than three times I've had people asking if I'm wearing perfume and what it is, and it's turned out to be the hand cream!

hbbjhhhh · 02/10/2024 19:18

Chanel nail varnish, wrapped at the counter.

MeganM3 · 02/10/2024 19:19

I just don't think it's possible to get it right for someone of that age. They just like what they like. I'd give a voucher for somewhere she can choose cosmetics.
I love the Clinique black honey. Elizabeth Arden 8 hr stuff. Nail varnishes. But it's all very personal to the person.

Why are people recommending toys for kids or hand cream for middle aged people 😂

Because of the budget, I think. £20 for a gift from a high quality brand isn't going to get much more than keyrings or hand creams 😅

I would love to know what hand cream that is @tattygrl ... 🙂🙏

Mumofyellows · 02/10/2024 19:26

My slightly posh horsey 21 year old loves a Jellycat 🤣 she wouldn't use hand cream or wear horsey jewellery though. Joma jewellery do nice bracelets for around £20, mine likes the gold ones, or the Dior lip oil is a good shout I think.

Ok I have actually had that too. Glad it wasn’t in a creepy way. 😂

I've actually started to dab small amounts behind my ears like you would with perfume now 😂I adore the scent, people can evidently smell it and it's about ten times cheaper than my favourite perfume so I'm calling it a win.

As a middle aged person, I strongly recommend starting to use hand cream asap. It's not just for us oldies, and believe me 'old hands' will sneak up on you sooner than you think if you neglect them.
Funny how people will happily spend a fortune on face moisturiser and body lotion, but scoff at hand cream, yet hands take much more of a battering.
