Thread 3 - The one with the Grim Giftsets

Reastie · 29/09/2024 19:15

Thanks to @SpottyBumPony for giving us such a grim code Xmas Grin

I've spent the afternoon going through the Christmas list and feeling very overwhelmed about how much to get and how much it'll all cost. I need to get control and organised.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

If you have the FREEPRINTS app, check it as I had a free 12x9 canvas on there. Postage was 7.99

To compare similar size on Photobox is 11.74 (if you add a hanging kit which supposedly comes with the freeprints one) and 5.49 postage so £17.23 total

Snapfish is 8.49 and 4.99 postage

Anyone seen any bargains for the iPhone 16? DWs is literally on its last legs so was looking into getting her a new one for Christmas, I can’t really see any deals at the moment not sure whether to hold out until Black Friday unless anyone has seen any bargains - just the phone as we have sim only contracts ☺️

Ewock · 04/10/2024 18:39

So ds has asked for a mini fridge for Xmas. It's the only thing he would like, so we're thinking we'll get it for him. Does anyone have any advice or deals? Thanks

Ewock · 04/10/2024 18:42

Also another post for The Happy puzzle company they have 20% off the new football jigsaw puzzle

The 16 only came out last month so you’re extremely unlikely to get any deals on it for some time. Maybe look at the 15 - that’s far more likely to have bargains.

Montanna15 · 04/10/2024 18:53

@Ewock b&m have two different ones. They where about £40

EnRouteElsewhere · 04/10/2024 18:57

Someone was asking about cuddle cushions, sorry, can't remember who.

I got a couple from Dunelm for my kids and they are used every day.

One from Asda for another child again used every day.

Just seen this online at TK Maxx and it has a pocket to hold a phone!

Londonmummy66 · 04/10/2024 18:58

@Ewock - Russell and Hobbs seem to be the cheapest for a reputable brand - at around £30-35. probably worth keeping an eye on them for somewhere like Currys having an offer or for Black Friday

Waffles21 · 04/10/2024 19:04

Hiya
DS has just decided he’d like a velvetiser, I know from being on these threads the last couple of years there are often deals. Can anybody suggest when and where I’m likely to get the best deal from please? Thank you!

juicyjellybaby · 04/10/2024 19:08

@Waffles21 it’s £69.99 if you sign up to be a vip I am sure we got ours cheaper but that was a good few years ago

oriel2013 · 04/10/2024 19:08

Would anyone like a £10 gift card for boden? It's come for my birthday but I'm not after anything at the moment. I'll pm the details if anyone can make use of it.

Ilovepugs2017 · 04/10/2024 19:09

Instead of a velvetiser we ending up buying a salter hot chocolate maker…. Very similar at a fraction of the price unless they specifically want the velvetiser

oriel2013 · 04/10/2024 19:10

Also I remember seeing an alternative to Turtle doves gloves mentioned but can't find it. Can anyone remember the details? Thanks!

think this was on the ideas for a posh 21 year old niece thread! I've just been looking (being sold on eBay)
I'd love the voucher if it's not already gone!

bizzey · 04/10/2024 19:17

@Ewock ...thank you for mentioning mini fridge !
You have just given me a amazing idea and help for ds !!

Wonderfulstuff · 04/10/2024 19:21

Not sure if this has been mentioned already but there are two good TSV deals on QVC right now.

A Sunday Riley set (might have self gifted that one - whoops!)

A Molton Brown set - which is great for splitting into multiple gifts.

Is the Smyths offer this year only £10 off if you spend over £100 and not multiples? Eg spend £200 get £10 off too?

Georgieporgie29 · 04/10/2024 19:37

sillygoof · 04/10/2024 17:18

Just ordered Solace Jewellery mystery packs, and found code FIRST25 for 25% off if its your first order, it worked on the mystery packs, so six pairs of earrings for 16.99 delivered.

I couldn’t get this to work for me and I’ve never ordered before, wonder if I’m doing something wrong.

See my last message I have bought the tropical build it now yet from smyths on sale had 878 pieces has was like £12, can vouch as hidden for Christmas

Thanks for this! My niece wanted the Lego flowers but at £30-40 it was to expensive. Searching, 'Build it now' on Smyths I found a couple of sets and got one, with postage, for just under £18! Thanks.

Thanks @Talisin neither of us are super techy 🤣 so only tend to upgrade when our current phones are on their last legs, I actually can’t see a huge difference between the 16 and 15 so will be on the lookout for some deals on the 15 too! 🤞🤞
