Thanks to @SpottyBumPony for giving us such a grim code Xmas Grin

I've spent the afternoon going through the Christmas list and feeling very overwhelmed about how much to get and how much it'll all cost. I need to get control and organised.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

I've just received my order from toystreet.co.uk - one of the things I ordered was a hot wheels track car transporter from their outlet. It was £26 (best I've seen is £33 on offer) because the box is bashed, and this is the only damage to it. Perfectly fine for my DS' Christmas pressie! This one was A grade, there's a bunch of other things on there including Lego flowers, Sylvanian families and scooters. Delivery took a little longer than usual for online shopping but not as bad as the reviews suggested.

Stanley dupes in The Original Factory Shop for £8 each.

Yep mine was cancelled also. A shame really. I know at the time of purchase (back in August), Argos were price matching this, but haven't checked yet to see if this is still the case.

I am still waiting on a dispatch email from Whistlefish for my order put in on Sunday 🙈 Hoping this won't be another cancellation.

I've had my Whistlefish dispatch email just for the stuff I ordered on Sunday so yours should be on the way!

Could I have a bit of help please! I’m trying to get my parents shopping for grandchildren sorted. My own adult kids are no problem but for the little ones a large Squishmallow and magnet tiles have been requested. I was going to get both from Smyths while offer is on.
Budget is round £50 each. They have a larger box of unbranded tiles or a smaller box of Magformers which I assume is better quality. Could someone who has actually used them tell me which to go for. Obviously the big box looks great but I’ll avoid if quality isn’t good. Could use Amazon if better.
if you had a four year old and this was their first box, what one would you want?
Thank you.

I'm risk adverse so have always gone with one of the main brand names due to fears about magnets coming loose/tiles cracking in the non brand cheaper amazon versions. I think we have magformers but connetix and playmags are also good. We started our collection when DC was 3yo and went with a smallish starter set for around your budget which worked well at that younger age. It's still a much played with toy nearly 4 years so it's worth the investment, if you are able, in my opinion. We've then added to each year and have got some of the more complex sets too.

I don't know if it's already been mentioned but Boots have a bogof today only. You can also mix and match so I got 2 different fragrances for the price of one making them £2 each and also bargain bath bombs.

Qwerty21 · 04/10/2024 14:07

I would recommend desire deluxe on Amazon. Amazing value for money with excellent quality

Solace jewellery are doing a mystery bundle of 3 pairs of earrings for £10. You can choose silver/gold/kids but obviously it’s a gamble what pairs you get. I’ve given it a try as my kids use Solace anyway because they don’t aggravate their ears, they are good quality earrings and allergy free.

I had a look too but found it's only on certain bathing products.

Just a word of warning on the Snackverse subscriptions, which are a great idea but a bit of a con.

  1. They constantly have a 20% off subscription plan offer. It's not actually 20% off the plan, but off the first box, which makes it much more expensive than advertised.
  2. They aren't entirely truthful about the boxes you could get. They advertise August's as having been America. It wasn't - it was Germany. They only actually seem to do boxes from Europe, which disappoints my Asian-food loving daughter.

It's still a really nice idea, but be warned!

hby9628 · 04/10/2024 15:17

@Lazza24 I can't see that deal on solace jewellery. Are you able to link it? We use them for our daughters. Great little earrings

Howdy shoppers!

I usually buy my BIL a kit for growing tomatoes or chillis or something similar. I find them in kitschy little shops, always in a lovely box, really nice looking pressie. Up until now they've lived in an apartment with a tiny balcony so it's worked. It's always well received and I get photos of the produce! However after 8 years I've done tomatoes/peppers/chillis a lot now 😅 They've also moved to a place with a garden and had a baby. So I'm trying to think outside the box a bit.

They're not British so the lovely gardening book which keeps coming up isn't any good.

Any other ideas? Need it in the next few weeks as we're heading to see them and taking all the Christmas pressies with us in readiness 😅

How about a selection of unusual veg seeds and a seed storage tin? No discounts but I like this company as they have a charitable side. https://www.realseeds.co.uk/ Their packaging is nice too and there are lots of tips etc on the website.

Suttons have some vintage style seed tins https://www.suttons.co.uk/suttons-cream-seed-tin_mh8320

Top Quality Vegetable Seed from The Real Seed Catalogue.

The very best vegetable seed for home gardeners, with interesting heirloom, heritage and organic varieties. Quality seed at fair prices - and guaranteed better flavour or your money back.

Also on this brand ... if you are ever just below the £40 delivery threshold so about to pay £3.99, they do a very cute atomiser for £4 which would be lovely to gift with any perfume.

I would always rather pay the equivalent for a "thing" than delivery IYSWIM Grin
