Thread 3 - The one with the Grim Giftsets

Thanks to @SpottyBumPony for giving us such a grim code Xmas Grin

I've spent the afternoon going through the Christmas list and feeling very overwhelmed about how much to get and how much it'll all cost. I need to get control and organised.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

I’ve got one on my app but says it expires today?

@Streetcornerchoir Some were expiring yesterday and some are expiring on Monday hoping that someone will have one that they won't use 🙂

Hi, Have been looking for lego flowers for ages. They're a bit expensive. Has anyone got any of the 'dupes', and are they any good? Thanks

Howdy shoppers!

I usually buy my BIL a kit for growing tomatoes or chillis or something similar. I find them in kitschy little shops, always in a lovely box, really nice looking pressie. Up until now they've lived in an apartment with a tiny balcony so it's worked. It's always well received and I get photos of the produce! However after 8 years I've done tomatoes/peppers/chillis a lot now 😅 They've also moved to a place with a garden and had a baby. So I'm trying to think outside the box a bit.

They're not British so the lovely gardening book which keeps coming up isn't any good.

Any other ideas? Need it in the next few weeks as we're heading to see them and taking all the Christmas pressies with us in readiness 😅

I got a box of Thai grow your own herbs kit from Etsy if that helps?

Has anyone got one of these cushions for sitting up in bed? Is there one you would recommend?
Thinking for MIL with a book and sweets as she genuinely needs nothing and doesn’t manage out much but still enjoys reading in bed.

Gustavo1 · 04/10/2024 11:17

Sorry if it’s already in but laithwaites have a 20% discount for new customers using 20off

The new customer offers can’t be used with other offers but they also have some good, well priced boozy gifts.

i got one a few years ago from dunelm for mine. It was really good, but, you couldn’t take the cover off to wash it. Which seems a big oversight really

New customers can also receive £40 off an £80 spend with a refer a friend link, I have added mine to the referral board if anyone needs one.

@CarrieMoonbeams thanks for the recommendation. I'll check it out👍

My daughter has had the dunelm one for about three years and loves it. She has just gone to Uni and we got her a new one to take with her, so she still has one at home, because she uses it so much.

We got one last week for £15 on a clubcard offer in tesco (down by £13 I think) so it might be worth looking if the offer is still on if you decide to go for it as a gift.

She uses it loads, for reading, to sit on her bed to watch things on her iPad and when she sits on the floor to paint her toe nails etc - multipurpose 😂

Someone previously asked about bath bombs. Our local Home Bargains had these in (it’s not a very big store.)

They also had various hot chocolate bombs (including the Grinch ones they did last year.)

I also picked up these red nose mallows which I’ll use for our hot chocolate station. They had penguin ones as well.

Hi there how do you get the boots 15% off £100? I’m trying to get my son the intax Polaroid bundle - it’s not showing up with my boots card? Thank you!

You enter code SAVE15 at checkout, I had an email about it.

Yes, me! It's those bloody red bath bombs that have started all this Grin

She's amazed that they turn the bath pink, and have a random crap toy inside.

She's more running through the door from school and demanding a pink bath straight away.

evtheria · 04/10/2024 11:44

@okayhescereal

Along the lines of making their own...
• Do they drink? I gave my dad a beer-making kit which he had success with, and asked for again the next year. It was quite heavy, though, so you'd need a suitcase. I bought it from Wilko, and though it's not on their site they have other kits called MYO.
• Mushroom growing kits - there are very popular ones on Amazon that often do a good discount between now and Christmas.

I got this one last year after I had an operation and it was really comfy. It’s also lovely and soft.

Yep mine was cancelled also. A shame really. I know at the time of purchase (back in August), Argos were price matching this, but haven't checked yet to see if this is still the case.

I am still waiting on a dispatch email from Whistlefish for my order put in on Sunday 🙈 Hoping this won't be another cancellation.

ShangPie · 04/10/2024 12:24

@okayhescereal I was going to suggest a mushroom growing kit - there’s plenty out there and they don’t take a lot of TLC like growing a ‘real’ plant might! Also the medium can be broken down afterwards and used as fertilizer for their garden

Justhereforthechristmasthreads · 04/10/2024 12:38

@STom2 my Whistlefish dispatch email arrived I think 7 days after placing the order. They are worth waiting for

hby9628 · 04/10/2024 12:45

Picked up this in the entertainer today down from £20 to £6. Can't find much in the way of reviews but the characters are cute!

I've just spotted this book which is in the same style as the positive potatoes that were shared previously. Would make a lovely gift paired with one of the crocheted potatoes.
