Thread 3 - The one with the Grim Giftsets

Thanks to @SpottyBumPony for giving us such a grim code Xmas Grin

I've spent the afternoon going through the Christmas list and feeling very overwhelmed about how much to get and how much it'll all cost. I need to get control and organised.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

I suffer badly with cold hands and was looking for gloves with a longer cuff. I’ve bought these on Amazon and I think they are an absolute steal. £6.99 for alpaca mix and they are touch screen tips. They are so soft and warm! They arrived in a clear bag with the packaging labels so you would have to wrap them naked iyswim but for the money I am extremely happy 🙌

DELIVERY gives free delivery at Matalan today.

Thanks for the tip Meryl - can anyone get it to work with less than a £20 spend. It keeps saying I have not spent enough and need to spend £20, just checking incase I am doing something wrong.

lingmerth · 04/10/2024 09:27

Thank you @TheWeeDonkeyFella and @IlovePond I'll check these out.

Had a very good experience with this company for puzzles, received my order within two days of buying. I have a voucher for £5 off a £30 spend plus there is a welcome offer too, SAVE5
happypuzzlecompany

I definitely concur, they are fantastic! Thank you for the reminder as I have just placed an order for this year.

They currently have a Twelve Days of Christmas metal puzzles advent calendar reduced.

These Waxidoodles are also a huge hit in our house with DS5 for no-mess art, so might make quite a nice gift for any little ones who are artistically inclined.

It's Amazon Prime day next week, I'd wait and check prices then

-JD and Coke set, a normal sized glass bottle of Coke, a miniature JD bottle and a JD & Coke branded glass £5.50
-a Pringles team bus, its a bus made out of cardboard with 20 of the small Pringles cans in, )12.99 which i thought was a bargain!

CarrieMoonbeams · 04/10/2024 10:03

@lingmerth , I have these Whittard double walled mugs. They're expensive but I love them. If you scroll through the pictures you'll see how they look, and they're cool on the outside so ideal for awkward wee buggers like me who don't always hold the cup by the handle!

Right ladies, I need your help! I e been given a £40 Amazon voucher and am going to treat myself to a steamer to replace my iron! Such a treat! Any recommendations? And should I wait for Black Friday? I'm in no rush?!

Boots still run 20% of premium beauty (No7, Elemis, Sol De Janeiro, you name it) plus 10% off £60 or 15% off £100 spend.
On the top of it TCB has £2 global cashback

Hi there how do you get the boots 15% off £100? I’m trying to get my son the intax Polaroid bundle - it’s not showing up with my boots card? Thank you!

okayhescereal · 04/10/2024 10:23

@nicky2512 not sure if anyone else has said but we have the desire deluxe ones and they've been great. Reasonable cost and hold up well. Often in Amazon sales.

I had cylindrical ones, and I didn't like them. I have ice-cold hands, and obviously only the part in contact with the warmer is getting warmed up (back of hands were still freezing). They also gave me headaches.

If you imagine the person using them at home (not out and about), I LOVED my electric hot water bottle. It was like a pocket and i could fit both hands in it. It heated up with just a click and was great for sitting around and watching TV. I can't recommend a brand, as the cheap one I got started getting cooler and cooler after about 4 months of regular use.

i got the Lakeland catalogue yesterday. They’ve got some great heat robes and capes that work with power banks.
not bargains (although there are some 20% off codes knocking about)
they look amazing

Could I have a bit of help please! I’m trying to get my parents shopping for grandchildren sorted. My own adult kids are no problem but for the little ones a large Squishmallow and magnet tiles have been requested. I was going to get both from Smyths while offer is on.
Budget is round £50 each. They have a larger box of unbranded tiles or a smaller box of Magformers which I assume is better quality. Could someone who has actually used them tell me which to go for. Obviously the big box looks great but I’ll avoid if quality isn’t good. Could use Amazon if better.
if you had a four year old and this was their first box, what one would you want?
Thank you.

I prefer the solid ones and those are the ones you mostly see on social media (in case they are asking for something they have seen). Connetix is the big name brands but expensive. The desire Delux ones on Amazon (which we have) are highly rated. It isn't a very impressive looking box though I have to say. For a gift I'd be tempted to put in a nicer box they can stored long term in.

PurpleSkittle · 04/10/2024 10:36

Up to 12% cashback plus some potential Lego freebies today when clicking through Quidco to buy on the Lego.com website.

Read all the details though to check it will work on the set(s) you're interested in - looks like Lego exclusives are only getting 3%...

PurpleSkittle · 04/10/2024 10:40

To add, the larger cashback amounts are mainly on the bigger sets, although it might also be on all the Fortnite sets (except the exclusive ones - I can't work out whether the Battle Bus counts under the Fortnite cashback or the exclusives cashback?)

purplepandas · 04/10/2024 10:41

Any recommendations for thermal printers for a 13 year old please? Are they a waste of a hit?!

IlovePond · 04/10/2024 10:41

Hi, quick question: If going via TCB to Boots, do you still get cash back if you pay with points?

Thanks

okayhescereal · 04/10/2024 10:45

Howdy shoppers!

I usually buy my BIL a kit for growing tomatoes or chillis or something similar. I find them in kitschy little shops, always in a lovely box, really nice looking pressie. Up until now they've lived in an apartment with a tiny balcony so it's worked. It's always well received and I get photos of the produce! However after 8 years I've done tomatoes/peppers/chillis a lot now 😅 They've also moved to a place with a garden and had a baby. So I'm trying to think outside the box a bit.

They're not British so the lovely gardening book which keeps coming up isn't any good.

Any other ideas? Need it in the next few weeks as we're heading to see them and taking all the Christmas pressies with us in readiness 😅

Waffles21 · 04/10/2024 10:49

@okayhescereal how about a cheese making kit or similar if you wanted to keep the foodie theme? Lots on Amazon, I got my dh one a few years ago and it was great!
