Thread 3 - The one with the Grim Giftsets

Thanks to @SpottyBumPony for giving us such a grim code Xmas Grin

I've spent the afternoon going through the Christmas list and feeling very overwhelmed about how much to get and how much it'll all cost. I need to get control and organised.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Is it me or is the smyths deal not as good? I'm sure it used to be £x of every £x spent?

Anyone see any decent price on Lego flowers? I have blue light but still seems expensive

Keep an eye on Asda. I have had them on there the cheapest out of lego/smyths and amazon

Sorry for asking for yet more recommendations 🫣 but has anyone got any experience with hand warmers (the reusable, rechargeable kind)? I have a recipient in mind who these would be perfect for (if they're any good that is!)

I had cylindrical ones, and I didn't like them. I have ice-cold hands, and obviously only the part in contact with the warmer is getting warmed up (back of hands were still freezing). They also gave me headaches.

If you imagine the person using them at home (not out and about), I LOVED my electric hot water bottle. It was like a pocket and i could fit both hands in it. It heated up with just a click and was great for sitting around and watching TV. I can't recommend a brand, as the cheap one I got started getting cooler and cooler after about 4 months of regular use.

Could I have a bit of help please! I’m trying to get my parents shopping for grandchildren sorted. My own adult kids are no problem but for the little ones a large Squishmallow and magnet tiles have been requested. I was going to get both from Smyths while offer is on.
Budget is round £50 each. They have a larger box of unbranded tiles or a smaller box of Magformers which I assume is better quality. Could someone who has actually used them tell me which to go for. Obviously the big box looks great but I’ll avoid if quality isn’t good. Could use Amazon if better.
if you had a four year old and this was their first box, what one would you want?
Thank you.

Saw a couple of options in my local bm bargains yesterday - one had the lovely tall glass (tho we have those and it takes a lot of ice cream to fill!!) and there was a "male your own screwball" kit too which i couldnt resist - takes me right back to childhood! (Tho suspect my DC wont have a clue what they are! 😂)

I went to B&M yesterday, but didn't see any. But if they've been spotted in the wild, I'll brave another trip :-)
Thanks

We have both, my girls actually prefer the style on the left (the solid magnet tiles) and I’ve always found them to be sturdy!

kkr168 · 04/10/2024 08:40

@nicky2512 We have a cheap amazon set & a magformers set, I wouldn't say ones any better then the other.

This is the amazon set, which is an absolute bargain at the moment with the 50% off voucher applied. Only thing to watch is it says 122 pieces but approx 40 of those are insert pieces that my son currently doesn't use. amzn.eu/d/egUYPey

I thought the same! Only giving me £10 off of a £260 spend 🤨

Dramallama24 · 04/10/2024 08:44

FYI aldi wooden toy leaflet is now out for next week- already planning what I need to buy from there!

nicky2512 · 04/10/2024 08:45

It doesnt seem like much of a bargain at all, unless you know the price won't budge it's worth holding out for black Friday or prime day deals it seems!

Ilovepugs2017 · 04/10/2024 09:07

For any Vodafone customers just been in touch with them to find out why there’s no feel good friday offer on the app and this is their response 🙄

i think it’s rubbish. It used to be £10 off £50 and £20 off £100 with smyths and Amazon used to bring the popular toys down 20percent to price match them. Hopefully there will be better deals come Black Friday

Also on TopCashBack too so a good way to get the £2 bonus

evtheria · 04/10/2024 09:25

@PaintMeARiver I have also seen the sundae kit in my B&M. Ours was in the new Christmas stuffers and gift sets aisle, where the little hot choc kits were, and about waist height, if that's any help!
