Thread 3 - The one with the Grim Giftsets

Reastie · 29/09/2024 19:15

Thanks to @SpottyBumPony for giving us such a grim code Xmas Grin

I've spent the afternoon going through the Christmas list and feeling very overwhelmed about how much to get and how much it'll all cost. I need to get control and organised.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Last week Lidl released some codes that could be used on their app to receive £5 off. They were only available to use at selected stores. If anyone has one spare that they are unable to use as their store doesn't accept them please could I have it?

Has anyone got one of those reading cushions with the high back and arms? I seen one in dunelm yesterday and thought of maybe getting one for my sister for reading in bed but wonder if there actually any good?

if it’s the cushion thing my teenage daughter loves hers. We got a new one for her to take to uni and it was £15 on a tesco clubcard offer last weekend.

Anyone seen any sundae kits with the proper glass and spoon? I can get a kit with paper cups but I haven't seen any with the glasses anywhere.

Saw a couple of options in my local bm bargains yesterday - one had the lovely tall glass (tho we have those and it takes a lot of ice cream to fill!!) and there was a "male your own screwball" kit too which i couldnt resist - takes me right back to childhood! (Tho suspect my DC wont have a clue what they are! 😂)

YeahWellWhyNot · 03/10/2024 21:31

I'm laughing at "male your own screwball" although I can't pin down why @dramalamma too much wine maybe

YeahWellWhyNot · 03/10/2024 21:33

But on a serious note, a sundae glass is a brilliant idea for my two boys who lived off them at Butlins this summer 🏝️ going on the list for b&M thanks 🙏🏼

Not sure if it's been posted, but it won't harm to mention. Someone said that B&M had four packs of Guylian last year for £1. I found them in store today for 79p. It actually makes them better value than any of the bigger boxes. Best Before Fate was 06/25

Grabbed some for stocking fillers and teacher gifts.

@Reastie love the idea of Guylian chocolates being responsible for our fate 😂 sorry @RainbowZebraWarrior

'male your own screwball' also has to be a contender!! That's 4 I've seen now 😂how will @Reastie choose?!

Does anyone know if the Smyths
discount thingy can be used on Lego? I need a set that's £250 but it's only available at a few places. I could buy at Legoland with 10% Merlin discount but hoping for a bit more off! Also, I know it has been covered but I just can't find it 🙈 When is said event??

issantahereyet · 03/10/2024 21:44

Sorry for asking for yet more recommendations 🫣 but has anyone got any experience with hand warmers (the reusable, rechargeable kind)? I have a recipient in mind who these would be perfect for (if they're any good that is!)

MarshmallowsOnToast · 03/10/2024 21:56

Thank you so much for all the Elemis deals info. So many of you answered so I can't tag you all but I have screenshotted all and will investigate what works out best.

Really appreciate it! 😊

I’ve got one on my app but says it expires today?

If you can wait another few weeks the QVC deal is usually really good value. It's normally November sometime and in the region of £70/£80.

I’ve never heard of these but I have two girls and a a MIL who will love them!

Do the fahlo bracelets work? Did anyone have them last year and would recommend?

Givealittlebit · 03/10/2024 22:18

Big thank you for the wooden blocks, ordered for baby girl! Also my mud monster truck thing arrived, perfect for youngest boys stocking so thank you for that too!

Waffles21 · 03/10/2024 22:24

@issantahereyet I bought 2 sets last year and they were great, think there was a deal so I got £20 off. Easy to use, and stay warm.
edited- I tried to put a screenshot but didn’t work, they were vneed ones and worked out around £16 per pair

Yes, bought one for DD 14 and it’s still going strong today

Famousthehero · 03/10/2024 22:36

My experiences

Hand warmers - I bought a few different ones on deals, they all did the job but don’t last for all the hours they claim on the box, easy to recharge though. They’re good for ds4 who refuses to put gloves on or immediately gets his gloves wet - kids don’t turn them off though obvs, so only for supervised use (or none at all I expect if you are a responsible parent)

Fahlo - they’re a little animal model on the bracelet and you get a card with a link to an app where you track your animal/s. Our kids loved the idea. They had a penguin and a hammerhead shark, both of which went out of reach (😬) during the year, so you get reassigned a different one automatically. Have told the children that their gps tags probably got knocked off…

Roystonv · 03/10/2024 22:50

The Guerlain chocs were £1.50 in our B & M yesterday!

whatausername · 03/10/2024 22:58

@issantahereyet I have a Zippo one which was stupidly expensive but is really good. Once I dug into the reviews, many of the Amazon ones I looked at said they got far too hot or that there were safety concerns around the batteries. I figured a well-known brand might be a bit safer, certainly I had more trust in them anyway. It does the job and lasts a really long-time. A godsend at sports matches

lingmerth · 03/10/2024 23:13

Can anyone recommend glass cups for drinking tea or coffee out of. My dd and dsil would like a set for Xmas.
