Thanks to @SpottyBumPony for giving us such a grim code Xmas Grin

I've spent the afternoon going through the Christmas list and feeling very overwhelmed about how much to get and how much it'll all cost. I need to get control and organised.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

I have a weird request 🙈 Can anyone recommend a gift for our lovely neighbours who are into gardening and hiking and are age 80+? We've done the booze and chocolates gifts and I'm really stuck this year. They are the nicest people, though we don't know them that well they always get DC Easter / Xmas gifts. And I just want to get them something lovely ♥️ Budget isn't huge - max £30

Last year these bud vases ended up on offer at amazon. I gifted them to a couple of keen gardeners and they have been very well received and used over the last year. Great for grabbing a some foliage or blooms from a keen gardeners garden to brighten up the house. https://www.johnlewis.com/lsa-international-mia-trio-of-mini-vases-h11cm-clear/p6314806?s_ppc=2dx_mixed_home_BAU&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw3vO3BhCqARIsAEWblcDCWax7Vq-BkiN7ynPr_qsco8Y9MrmLLt4IfCAYy1YTu7yhJdfl5xcaAv5bEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

Another thanks for the NFL tip - that’s hard to buy for hubby sorted 👍🏻🎄

BeaLola · 02/10/2024 19:36

Amazonmulu for your keen gardener neighbours bird feeders, packets of seeds as previously suggested, depends what their garden is like as to what plants you could buy them eg David Austin Rose, camellia, winter flowering clematis etc etc or if there's a particularly lovely NT or similar garden to you and you have tine to sort tickets to visit and enough left for coffee and cake when there.

Would they like a string or two of solar lights to string through a tree/shrub in their garden so it's illuminated at night for them ?

okayhescereal · 02/10/2024 19:41

@MarshmallowsOnToast thanks so much for the B&M suggestion! Got the HP colour changing hot choc for my step sister, but also found bits for DH's birthday and sorted my v hard to buy for brother whilst I was in there as well. There was so much choice!

@mumonthehill @Ilovepugs2017 what is the quality like? I was thinking of getting some for DS but there seemed to be mixed reviews and questions about whether they were genuine

I've been through the whole thread and can't find these!! Would you mind sharing the deal with me please? Would be great for DS!

NotMeekNotObedient · 02/10/2024 19:54

Tyrrell Katz has a sale on. Really rate their melamine plates, really strong and the pattern doesn't wear off. Water bottles, umbrellas, pencil cases etc which might make good stocking fillers.

Delivery £3.95 under £50. Looks like 10% off for new customers but not sure if it works on sale items.

I can't remember who mentioned the £3.30 nike t-shirt.
Mine arrived today and it is fab. A definite bargain stocking filler! Thank you so much.

Elpheba · 02/10/2024 09:41

Thanks to @Someaddedsugar’s recommendation yesterday of photo advent calendars. I bought six yesterday morning and they’ve already arrived this morning with a cute little freebie too! Didn’t realise they are a small biz but I’m genuinely really impressed. I ordered the cotton bird ones a few years ago which were bigger but more expensive £18 each I think. These https://porkypenguin.co.uk/collections/christmas-gifts ones are smaller but stand up like a card would on a mantle piece etc.
It was really easy to order just using the photos on my phone and I like that you can say who the calendar is for and they’re packaged individually in envelopes with labels.

(Cotton bird just threw them all in together and told me to open the back when I said I didn’t know which was which but that ended up ripping one of them as the adhesive was so strong)

I ended up getting one for us and one for each set of grandparents and some aunts etc.

Sorry if this has been asked I don't know how to save to read the thread then quote. What size are they you got - like A5?

okayhescereal · 02/10/2024 20:24

@FizzyOranges @Elpheba the website says the dimensions are 180 x 255mm. For reference an A4 sheet of paper is 210 x 297 mm. A5 is 148 x 210 mm. So it's in the middle.

You can get an idea if you look at the photos on the website. It shows someone holding it.

I’ve received my box and they seem fine to me. The material is exactly like it should be and the name around the waistband is spot on (not ending Cal ein at the front where it’s been dodgily sewn together). Hope that helps. 🙂

I don’t suppose you can recommend any? I’ve heard of P Louise but not had any experience with any of their products and there are a lot of different flavours just on this one 🤣

Amazonmulu · 02/10/2024 20:26

@Ewock it was from the ordnance survey shop: https://shop.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/search.php?searchquery=jigsaw&options%5Bconfigure%5D%5Bfilters%5D=issvisible%3A%3Dtrue%20%26%26%20channelids%3A%3D1

I've only ordered today so no idea what the quality is like but they do look lovely!

Cancelled subscription today by phone and the woman was really nice.
