Thread 3 - The one with the Grim Giftsets

Reastie · 29/09/2024 19:15

Thanks to @SpottyBumPony for giving us such a grim code Xmas Grin

I've spent the afternoon going through the Christmas list and feeling very overwhelmed about how much to get and how much it'll all cost. I need to get control and organised.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Was just looking which Smart Games game to get my Mum, noticed these mini games have £3 off, quite good for £5.99 www.amazon.co.uk/SmartGames-Hexpert-Brainteaser-SG-402/dp/B0CM3QZZZS

🫣🙏

I’ve PM’d you a code if you still need one.

Someaddedsugar · 01/10/2024 18:15

Has anyone seen any bargains on nano bugs (I think that's what they're called). There was a lovely Christmas one on these threads last year but I didn't manage to get one in time and DS has just started playing with the orange one I picked up as an alternative.

Ahhhhh - some one used it before I even could!!!
Bit mean really ☹️

So sorry didn’t think to PM you! Can’t believe someone has used it when it was intended for you though… not nice x

It's annoying isn't it.

Lurkers just waiting to nab all the codes. Grim manners.

Maybe we should all be more stringent and PM codes to those who have politely asked.

Ilovepugs2017 · 01/10/2024 18:52

@LePetitMaman 100% agree that we should do that going forward

noscoobydoodle · 01/10/2024 18:55

Thank for the Tank Museum recommendation @IfyoushouldmeetaCrocodile - I've sorted some really hard to buy relatives, and got some stocking fillers for my kids. The selection of books on particular is fantastic. I signed up with my email address for 10% off as well.

SomeFiggyPudding · 01/10/2024 19:02

I also agree with PMing codes, how annoying someone took it! Definitely not in the Christmas spirit.

On another note, can anyone point me in the direction of the £2 gardening book?! Totally missed it before and just ordered some lovely packs of seeds courtesy of @Streetcornerchoir ‘s tip. Thanks in advance!

Here you go, Figgy

To add: I've always imagined that for every person here who posts bargains, there are probably a dozen or more lurkers who just nab codes and don't contribute.

Mostly, though these threads are full of thoughtful people.

The book is also at Argos if you can find one near you. Glad you liked the seeds 😆

I saw the posts about Smart Games but didn't really investigate more, but now wonder if they're suitable for adults too? Might well suit my FIL. Are there any specific ones any of you would recommend for him please?

random123456 · 01/10/2024 19:39

Thank you for the tank museum hint! Got some great looking books, and a couple of spud guns which will keep my boys happy (and doubtless drive me absolutely mad 😬)

munchbunch12 · 01/10/2024 19:42

My local Sainsbury's has a number of different Urban Veda night creams reduced to £8 each, were £20. There's also quite a few things from Boutique cosmetics reduced too, eg nail polish £1.12 each, were £4.50.

I haven't tried any of them, but thought I'd post in case they're helpful to others.

Hi everyone! I want to get some books for my niece’s 11th birthday but I’m absolutely lost.

I don’t think The Babysitters Club or sweet valley high are still where it’s at…

Geek Girl are a good serious for that age, and Jacqueline Wilson books.

Do people still read Judy Blume?!

I just got 10 for a tenner on Vinted! Also got a massive set of track for £12. They're really expensive new so go for Vinted, I got a multipack of batteries from Amazon for £2 and they're ask good to go.

Squ1ggle · 01/10/2024 20:19

Just to give a word of warning re the Tank Museum shop. It was recommended on these threads last year and I bought quite a few books but was really disappointed when they arrived. They were battered and dirty, I suspect they were second hand or had been sitting in dusty storage for years. One book was a star wars book with a torch in the shape of a lightsabre attached in plastic on the front and it had clearly been sellotaped back up and the platic was so old it was dried and cracking. It didn't matter so much as were only for my boys but wouldn't have been able to gift any of them to anyone else.
I hope I was just unlucky and everyone else has a better experience
