Thread 3 - The one with the Grim Giftsets

Thanks to @SpottyBumPony for giving us such a grim code Xmas Grin

I've spent the afternoon going through the Christmas list and feeling very overwhelmed about how much to get and how much it'll all cost. I need to get control and organised.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Hi everyone! I want to get some books for my niece’s 11th birthday but I’m absolutely lost.

I don’t think The Babysitters Club or sweet valley high are still where it’s at…

I found all of the babysitters club in a charity shop a few months ago and my 8 year old niece is loving them!

GPNightmare · 01/10/2024 20:23

Wow… I have just totted up… as a result of this thread, I have spent just under £200 on Christmas presents but saved £1250! A big thank you to @Reastie and everyone who has posted tips and codes!

Onemoret1me · 01/10/2024 20:24

The smart games look great. Any recommendations on which ones are worth getting? Looking for a 8 and 14 year old

Broken12 · 01/10/2024 20:24

If you sign up for the Claire’s accessories club you get a £5 welcome voucher. You can then add things like who you’re buying for and like them on social media for more points.

they recently had a 5 for £10 sale but for Claire’s club members it was 10 for £10. I’m hoping it comes back again soon as I now have £10 to spend there! Got lots of bargain make up and hair things for my 4 year old

I’ve PM’d you a code if you still need one.

Thank you so much, really appreciate it 💗

Hello, I think my youngest daughter would love a little maileg mouse, I would really appreciate if anyone knew a way to get a discount.
Also trying to find ideas for my 8 year old daughter, prefers crafts, Lego etc, but she has so much already !

okayhescereal · 01/10/2024 20:35

@GPNightmare that is blooming impressive!!

Bumblebeesince19 · 01/10/2024 20:39

Hey :)
My DD loves dork diaries, diary of a wimpy kid, the Harry potter books (that I did not force on her) animal rescue books. But I have picked her up the dotty detective books, chronicles of narnia books and honestly about 15 random books from the charity shop which just sounded fun :)

Good luck!
I like using world of books for second hand but good quality books :)

stressbucket1 · 01/10/2024 20:42

Home bargain today have these blow pen sets for £7.99. The nano tape set was £1.50. They had a few different nano tape sets all good prices.

Exploding Kitten - On a scale of one to T-Rex is down to £7.94 on Amazon (supposedly from £19.98). No idea if it's any good, but at that price, it's worth a punt!

My DD likes Dork Diaries and Diary of a Wimpy Kid too. She also enjoys the Amari books by BB Alston. There's 3 of them so far: Amari and the Night Brothers, Amari and the Great Game and Amari and the Despicable Wonders (she's reading that one right now).

I think it really depends on the child for books! At 11 my DD loved Percy Jackson, Good Girl’s Guide to Murder and the Phoebe and her Unicorn series among most others.

Second votes for Lottie brooks and Amari and the night game.
Adding Katherine Rundell books are good for that age.

Bubble tea kits are on offer in Lidl - £3.99 now, for 3.

Good long use by dates, and they have always been popular in past years.

Sainsbury's have had the popping bubble kits, but they were more expensive, £4.99 for two

Edited; to add number of servings.

Re the tank museum - I’ve ordered from them for about the last 4 years, about once a year, and everything I’ve had has been brand new and perfect condition. I’ve also visited the tank museum shop and it was great.

HeadOfGregor · 01/10/2024 20:55

Thanks for the tank museum loads of gifts ticked off 🐑
Also debating the barista bath toy for DD, she's just turned 8 so I'm probably clinging on desperately to childhood but it looks ace

Someaddedsugar · 01/10/2024 20:58

Picked up loads of fab bits in the h&m sale, worth a look not just for gifts but also to stock up on basics.

Has anyone got any suggestions for good quality/fun bath toys for a 2 year old please? Out of everything we've had, the only things still standing are the suction cup gears. He particularly loves bath crayons but they keep snapping 😩 so would be extra extra grateful for good quality crayons!

@issantahereyet my recommendations would be:

Rubber duck from Wild Republic. No hole so they don't go moldy.

www.amazon.co.uk/Wild-Republic-23205-Stocking-Stuffers/dp/B07N27M6GF

Green Toys boats etc.
www.greentoys.co.uk/collections/bath-toys?srsltid=AfmBOopIauadX6JvfoqansX2Ln55Gr_Vu5sKZdbmxr5QGe7jpu5USacZ

Everything else has ended up in the bin!
