Some great ideas.

DD12 is getting as her main presents:

Instax mini & pack of film
Coloured cork-type noticeboard for her room
Converse-type trainers with fabric pens to decorate (she has some already but outgrown)
Bubble tea set
Possibly a beginner’s calligraphy set

Some sort of chocolate

Last year’s main present was an Oodie and we definitely got our money’s worth from it - she lives in it.

Thanks everyone, loving the lists so far.

We do a table present and I’ve just noticed the Dior Lip Gloss is on all 3 girls lists so thanks for the reminder.

Also seen from another post that John Lewis have 20% if it helps anyone.

If you get the Dior lip oils, order them online rather than buy in store. If bought online, They will engage your girls names on the lid and the packaging is immaculate. My 13 year old had one last year...I'd kill for the packaging alone!

Oh it was free last year at Dior! They must have realised there was some profit to be made. What a shame

I know this is Mumsnet but I'm astounded at the amount of money people are spending on their dc's. Is this really the norm nowadays?

@Cloudhopping I go all in at Christmas ☺️ I enjoy it, love getting the kids new stuff and they appreciate it. Grandparents throw money at us so we’ll spread some tree presents out between us too rather than getting different things. Probably £6-700 per child this year?

PuttingDownRoots · 16/11/2023 13:55

Cloudhopping · 16/11/2023 13:44

I know this is Mumsnet but I'm astounded at the amount of money people are spending on their dc's. Is this really the norm nowadays?

My list includes things that other family members buy.

But if you were to ask about budgets, you would find answers from a tenner to hundreds of pounds. Normal is a very wide range...

Wanttobeok · 16/11/2023 13:56

Wow! We spend about £200 on DS and I feel like that's a lot. I'd love to afford to spend more but glad I can afford that much

Wanttobeok · 16/11/2023 13:56

It's definitely cheaper when they are younger. Once they start wanting tech the price shoots up

TheGirlWhoLived · 16/11/2023 14:02

@Wanttobeok my best friend in the world spends £50 on her dd at Christmas, she’s really happy with what she gets and it suits them!

me too! I'm sitting here thinking I wouldn't spend that much money on things for myself throughout the year and I earn a pretty good salary!! I was hoping for inspiration for nieces / godchildren but don't think my budget stretches to these lengths.

It’s not the norm but I guess it’s up to them if they want to spend a fortune. Some of the lists here are crazy, we don’t have room for that kind of stuff and I hate the idea of adding more stuff to our already overflowing house 😬. Luckily my DC’s don’t ask for most of the stuff listed on these huge lists.

Foreverdecorating · 16/11/2023 16:03

Surely there are plenty of ideas for every budget here, people are listing stocking fillers some of which will be a couple of pounds. I don't think it is necessary to rain on people's parades.

Whodhaveem · 16/11/2023 16:07

I did ask for people to refrain from making judgement on what people are spending, it’s the same chippy comments every year.

Everyone has their own budgets and reasons for how much they buy their children I don’t know why people can’t just respect that

And to say there is no suggestions for a smaller gift on this thread is just nonsense, there are lots of wonderful girls gift ideas from £5 stocking fillers all the way up.

OP posts:
thaegumathteth · 16/11/2023 16:14

There's loads of ideas less money - lush stuff, made by Mitchell, bead spinner , bubble tea, art stuff, vouchers etc etc

I've honestly no idea why people need to complain about how much other people are spending - I wouldn't dream of doing that or of asking when someone is spending less than me because it's none of my business. What do you achieve by asctibg wide eyed and appalled at the lists?
