I have just completely run out a day ideas for stepmum and younger daughter and ordered another three because obviously I had to have one as well to demonstrate how it works 🤣
Literally, every person I know open down the land has one

It's the perfect gift for those who have everything 😀

What is it? ~google dodger~ 😆

A hot chocolate maker for about £100

PurBal · 10/12/2022 14:12

I got one when they first came out when no one had them and 4 people I know have gone out and got them as a result. I should get commission!

A hot chocolate maker for about £100

If you signup for their VIP club it’s £69.

ShaunaTheSheep · 10/12/2022 14:25

Cheaper dupes are available.

But I use mine a lot and for frothy coffee. And it's the pretty copper coloured one.

I did. I was incredibly proud of myself for making such a saving until I realised id bought bloody loads of them and lots of hot chocolate 🤣🤣
I am particularly looking forward to the black forest, one that looks divine

I love mine, I don't use it that often but when I do it's amazing.

It also makes fabulous hot frothy milk which I then use to pour over Cadburys or Lindt chocolate powder for DH and DC as Hotel Chocolat is wasted on them!

AnotherOne4 · 10/12/2022 14:31

I don't have one @Justthisonce12 , but I have been tempted in the past. I bet they sell thousands! (You made me laugh how you said you had to get yourself one 😂I've been like that on multiple Christmas gifts. I've got myself some wellie socks, chocolates, pyjamas....and probably more stuff that I've forgotten about)

MassiveSaladWithChristmasTrimmings · 10/12/2022 14:35

Do you have to use hotel chocolat chocolate or could I just use any chocolate?

MassiveSaladWithChristmasTrimmings · 10/12/2022 14:36

I've just seen @scrivette post which answers that!

I've just seen @scrivette post which answers that!

It says on the instructions not to put any other powder in the velvetiser, so I put the powder in the cup and add the hot frothy milk.

I mean they kind of would say that wouldn’t they but I wasn’t prepared to take any chances, so I’ve ordered six packets 😝

@AnotherOne4 honestly, the best deal I’ve found so far was the Asda dupe for the white company aromatherapy thingy that you put the oils in it squirts water into the air. It’s absolutely brilliant and about 60 quid cheaper. So obviously I had to buy one to test it out before I gave it as a gift.

I've had mine 2 years minus 15 days and use it daily. Bought it after watching a program behind the scenes at Hotel Chocolat during lockdown.
I heat the mug with boiling water.
The hot chocolate is a hug in a mug.

But it is so satisfying to pour out too, the weight balance and the feel of the handle.

AnotherOne4 · 10/12/2022 14:48

😂@Justthisonce12 You sound just like me. It just has to be done, right?

I get fomo, so that's how I justify it to myself. (Skechers are another thing I've treated myself too while making an order)

funnycactus · 10/12/2022 14:49

I got one as a gift last year and absolutely love it. The copper one is very nice looking! Bought one for my DM for Christmas this year Smile

mam0918 · 10/12/2022 14:53

I really don't get the point... but then I dont get the point of Oodies either or any of the really expensive versions of fairly useless stuff people go mad for this time of year.

All just seems like the same 'tat' people moan about but because its brand named and ridiculously more expensive it must be good right.

I mean who actually drinks enough hot chocolate per year for this to be worthwhile investment instead of another novelty gadget to store? and if you do drink enough melted chocolate to justify it being legitimately useful I would hate to see your calorie intake.

I assume my view is the minority on mumsnet though and these companies are making off like bandits.

stuntbubbles · 10/12/2022 14:56

What does it do that a saucepan, some milk, and your poison of chocolate can’t? For £100 I’d want it to cure my migraines and give me a daily back rub too.

AclowncalledAlice · 10/12/2022 14:56

I've no idea how many Velvetisers have been sold but I can confirm that the Mince Pie flavoured chocolate has sold a lot......mostly to me and DP.

SBAM · 10/12/2022 15:02

@Justthisonce12 can confirm the Black Forest hot chocolate is delicious. Sadly I’ve run out but hopefully Father Christmas will provide a top-up.

AssumingDirectControl · 10/12/2022 15:03

I have one under the tree from my husband 😂

I agree with @mam0918 my friend had one and it just seemed pointless and a way to flog you more hotel chocolate powder.

I do have a nespresso machine with milk frother so I don't lack for frothy milk. You'd have to be a mug to buy this as an expensive way to froth milk.

I also wouldn't buy hotel chocolate hot chocolate as being significantly better than a Belgian chocolate stirrer. Moser Roth aldi ones are pretty good. I can see why some people like the flavoured ones

mintdaisy · 10/12/2022 15:04

I love mine and use it all the time. I have replaced wine for velvetiser hot chocolate as an evening treat and now drink about once a year!

Justthisonce12 · 10/12/2022 15:05

@AssumingDirectControl that was very good of him. He has excellent taste. 🤣
