I have just completely run out a day ideas for stepmum and younger daughter and ordered another three because obviously I had to have one as well to demonstrate how it works 🤣
Literally, every person I know open down the land has one

I got one a few birthdays ago. I love it. I don't use Hotel Chocolate in it anymore, would need a 2nd mortgage. Found this company, their hot chocs are very compatible with the Velvertiser, taste great and a much better price : pendragondrinks.co.uk/

SmudgeButt · 10/12/2022 20:31

Not everyone has one and not everyone wants one. They seem pointless to me. Then again I world never fork out the prices that HC want for anything including chocolate.

LittleMrsPerfect · 10/12/2022 20:45

I love my Velvetier.

I don't drink or like tea or coffee so thats why I bought a machine to make the only hot drink I like.

I buy the pouches and sachets at the outlet stores where they are more than half price.

What other brands do people use as I broke my machine by using other brands/ grating blocks of chocolate? HC replaced it.

LittleMrsPerfect · 10/12/2022 20:51

I also use almond milk and that reduces the calories and sugar content.

Sparklingbrook · 10/12/2022 20:52

We have a terrible track record for using kitchen gadgets once, and had a cupboard full of soup makers/ice cream makers/soda stream etc but both the Velvetiser and the air fryer have been very successful.

TooBigForMyBoots · 10/12/2022 20:53

I was offered one but said "No". It doesn't make enough and I was disappointed with their sachets.

I can make amazing hot chocolate for multiple people without an expensive gadget.Xmas Grin

Another vote for saucepan. Living in a small flat with a tiny kitchen influences those choices though. I think it's a lovely thing to have probably, but not worth it unless quite well off.

Oh I love their chocolate!

Sparklingbrook · 10/12/2022 20:57

I thought that 99% of people on MN only have hot chocolate once a year on Christmas Eve while wearing brand new pyjamas so they probably won't get the use out of one. Grin

This is how I ended up with three, I’m keeping the best one. I didn’t fancy the white though

We’ve got the charcoal grey, looks v. smart

People underestimate how lush saucepan hot choc is.

Sparklingbrook · 10/12/2022 21:29

We've got the copper colour, looks nice and easy to keep clean.

PurplePixies · 10/12/2022 21:34

I use a saucepan and whisk warm milk in the pan and add broken up pieces of quality chocolate (Aldi or Lidl high coco content is perfect).

Tastes so much nicer than the powdered hot chocolate stuff.

jamoncrumpets · 10/12/2022 21:41

Saucepan. Warm milk. Whisk. Knoops 40% flakes. Pinch of cinnamon or chilli.

The best.

jamoncrumpets · 10/12/2022 21:42

Tbh Knoops makes Hotel Chocolat hot choc taste like Kinnerton.

TicTac80 · 10/12/2022 21:55

I bet they sell loads! I bought one as a treat for myself and the kids in October. I do have the Black Forest hot choc sachets (I love them!) but we also use normal hot chocolate powder. M&S do a mint choc and choc orange powder that the kids love. We also grate Lindt bars and use those.
i bought it for the convenience: I don’t have to stand at a cooker or microwave keeping an eye on the milk; the kids can use it easily too; milk is heated to just the right temperature; portion size is just right.
My DD won’t touch milk in cereal or drink milk, but she’ll happily make herself a hot chocolate. My DS will drink milk but loves hot chocolate and will also make himself a latte with it (just using normal coffee granules)

JaceLancs · 10/12/2022 22:04

DS bought one about 3 years ago it gets used daily in winter

Also interested to know if they make the milk hot enough for my tastes, as their hot chocolate in stores has always been unpleasantly cold to me.

In lockdown I bought hotel chocolat sachets and made beautiful hot chocolate with milk warmed in a pan and frothed/mixed in the chocolate with a £10 stick blender. Made gloriously foamy and creamy hot chocolates that I don't think I could tell apart from the velvetiser's.

No it's lukewarm to me. I had to microwave it after. Plus it only makes just over half a mug full! I sold mine for that reason and bought a bigger capacity milk frother for a fraction of the price and it gets it actually hot

FrangipaniBlue · 10/12/2022 22:13

Genuinely interested because I've been thinking about getting one.....

Does it do anything different to my £20 Aldi milk warmer/frother thingy?

I feel like it SHOULD but what if I spend £100 and it doesn't?

Mrsfussypants1 · 10/12/2022 22:14

@Tickledpickled We have the copper one, doesn't show finger prints or anything, a couple of weeks away from being 4yrs old and in regular use. The only hot drink I like, and like previous pp great with almond or coconut milk.

Yes, so much safer than a saucepan on the stove for DC and nice they can make something for themselves very easily, and it won't boil over or anything.

MadameMackenzie · 10/12/2022 22:16

WorriedMillie · 10/12/2022 20:10

Do they heat the milk sufficiently please?

No they really don't. Nowhere near hot to me. Even if the mug is warmed with boiling water first, it's still not hot enough and like I said above, it doesn't fill a mug. Not even close

Nope exactly the same

Pleiades2020 · 10/12/2022 22:19

If you have a velvetiser you don't need a relationship!

To answer a lot of questions though. You can use other flakes in them, it's just that HC's flakes are designed specifically for it. I've tried grating dark chocolate (the nice thin stuff) and using that and it works just as well. When my pouches run out I'll be doing this more.

It's only as sweet as the type of chocolate you use. You can get very dark chocolate or very milky. Their classic is 75% cocoa and to me a tiny bit too sweet so I mix that with the 85% dark. You can get pouches or sachets - the pouches you can use as much as you like so if you find it too strong use less.

It has a min and max level, so you can make smaller ones (4 scoops instead of 6).

It comes out at a drinking temperature but if your mug is cold it will cool down too quickly, so best to warm the mug up first with boiled water from a kettle.

You can use oat milk and other types as well as standard milk (I use oat milk).

The chocolate comes out really smooth and silky, it really is lovely. I've tried with a pan and a whisk but it never tasted this good. I haven't tried with the Lavazza milk frother.

Buildingthefuture · 10/12/2022 22:20

I have one and I love it and use it daily! I find the Hotel Chocolat sachets too greasy though, so I bung in Cadbury’s highlights powder! It works perfectly fine, has done for years!….
