I have just completely run out a day ideas for stepmum and younger daughter and ordered another three because obviously I had to have one as well to demonstrate how it works 🤣
Literally, every person I know open down the land has one

You use a whisk @Sparklingbrook

Oh. That's never going to be like what comes out of the Velvetiser.

Thehop · 10/12/2022 18:53

I've bought the swan £30 copy for the kids and it's amazing!

Goatinthegarden · 10/12/2022 18:56

I’m surprised so many adults are keen on hot chocolate. DH and I were discussing hot chocolate earlier. We couldn’t remember the last time either of us had had one and agreed that we both quite like the idea of a hot chocolate, but in reality, after a couple of sips it’s a bit sickly/sweet.

We’re not super strict about what we eat, but we are conscious about fitness and calorie intake. A milky, chocolatey drink just seems like a waste when I could eat something solid instead. For the same reason, I’m not into milky Costa/Starbucks type drinks.

We do have an espresso machine at home and a coffee bean subscription though, so I guess it’s just personal taste.

Here’s the thing.
If you don’t want one because you are happy using a pan or don’t drink hot chocolate, then don’t buy one.

I got one as I was given some of the sachets of the chocolate flakes and it didn’t taste right in the pan. Also, I wanted one and I had the money.

But what does it actually DO?!

How many coffees do you think you have a day though? As you say it's personal taste but I'd say it's not unusual for people to have 3-4 hot drinks a day and I feel the calorie difference is minimal to someone who may have one hot chocolate.

Are you actually kidding me? We would have a Starbucks every Saturday afternoon after the weekly shop an absolute minimum of four during the week. I doubt very much if they’ll stop as a result of getting a velvety is there, but yeah 4050 quid a week in Starbucks is not unusual

Wow.

Well I drink 2-3 black coffees, occasionally add a dash of frothed milk. Certainly not the same calories as a mug of milk and chocolate flakes.
I’m assuming the person having a daily hot choc is drinking other things through the day too and having the hot choc as an evening drink?

A quick Google tells me a Hotel Chocolat hot choc is 292calories. That’s about the same as a full pelt twenty minute run. It just wouldn’t be my poison of choice and I’m surprised so many people are that into it. It’s a free world though.

I’m surprised how many people eat foie gras. I’m also surprised how many people enjoy wine. I can’t stand the stuff. It’s a funny old world isn’t it?

Well yeh it is.

You said you thought everyone in the land must have one and I’m surprised because I don’t know anyone who has mentioned having one. I have learned more about a product I knew existed but had barley registered. I have found this thread interesting and thought it would be ok to engage with the conversation.

iwasaterribleteen · 10/12/2022 19:33

Does it make the nice hot chocolate that you get on the ski slopes in Italy?

You keep saying this is normal... its REALLY not.

I dont know anyone that could afford £50 a week on take away coffees.

I did use to enjoy those chocolatey Iced Coffee and whipped cream (1 or 2 a week) years ago when they came out but gave them up after seeing I gaining 2 stone in under 5 months from adding them too my diet (lost the weight after stopping, no other changes).

Even the people I know that do drink hot drinks aren't downing a meals worth of calories in 1 drink regularly at home.

I really dread to imagine what drinking melted chocolate and milk regularly long term is doing to you.

I may be confused but I've nowhere said anything like £50 a week I've never even used the number 50 at all in this thread you're talking out your arse.

We bloody well love ours, got a white one last December. We’ve been making Bailey’s hot chocolate in it recently 😋

I also don't know anyone with one. I clicked because I kept seeing it advertised on hotel chocolat and I've always wondered who the hell would buy a gadget to make hot chocolate!

But there’s no need to use the Hotel Chocolat sachets it works great with hot chocolate powder or Horlicks or whatever, and fewer calories.

They are typically a gift for the person who has everything, hence it’ll be popular in my stepmum’s house because she’ll be able to make drinks as treats for all the grandchildren and my daughter will enjoy them for just herself and her boyfriend.

DS got one during lockdown when there was nothing else to do or spend money on. I wouldn't have bought it for him otherwise, but he uses it loads, and likes making hot chocolate when we have visitors dm with young children because they always think it's really cool. The hot chocolate pouches are good for padding out stockings too!

chris8888 · 10/12/2022 20:03

I use a whisk heat milk in microwave the froth it with the £1 whisk from poundland

Where’s the chocolate?

WorriedMillie · 10/12/2022 20:10

Do they heat the milk sufficiently please?

On the hot side of drinkable IMO

Grimchmas · 10/12/2022 20:15

Also interested to know if they make the milk hot enough for my tastes, as their hot chocolate in stores has always been unpleasantly cold to me.

In lockdown I bought hotel chocolat sachets and made beautiful hot chocolate with milk warmed in a pan and frothed/mixed in the chocolate with a £10 stick blender. Made gloriously foamy and creamy hot chocolates that I don't think I could tell apart from the velvetiser's.

Tickledpickled · 10/12/2022 20:23

I can’t work out which colour to go for.. grey, copper or white?! I like the copper but is it hard to keep shiny?

This is how I ended up with three, I’m keeping the best one. I didn’t fancy the white though

If you like your chocolate hotter then it provides then you can either push the button again, or fill the cup with piping hot water in advance. As a woman with an asbestos throat I think that the latter does the trick.
